Question

So whats the deal with people who are selling/buying Unidentified items? Sometimes in LA I see ppl asking ALOT for Unid Gold "Item".... why? My only guess is that maybe it has something to do with PvP characters?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Question

Yes, it does have to do with PvP. You can only unlock items by using the ID kit. If you just buy it or salvage it, it doesn't register. And with runes, you can salvage an unidentified piece of armor and easily tell what it's gonna be after it's ID'd. Just compare the icon to the ones at the rune trader.

Another benefit to selling unidentified weapons or offhands is that you are gambling. You, as the seller, hope to get a really good price for a weapon that's gonna end up crappy when ID'd. But the buyer hopes to pay for a godly item at a cheap price. You can ask for more money if it's unidentified.

Re: Question

buying UNIDed items allow you to unlock mods/runes for PvP characters. For example, An UNIDed Superior Vigor Rune is worth more than an ided one since its also equivalent to about 2,000 faction points to unlock it.

If I had an unided sword with HP +30 (which I didn't know), then my PvP char can use a sword pommel of fortitude +30 instead of +x from before

ALWAYS BUY UNIDED Items - they usually sell for alot less than really good items and u have a chance for a godly weapon. I once sold an unided gold fellblade to someone for 35k and he IDed a really good one with +14% dmg enchanted or someting.

i agree with star on this one... maybe one of the few times, hehe, but the only time i buy unid'd items is if i am bored and in a gambling mood... and then only if its the type of weapon and weapon style i like... even then, i only will pay 3 to 5k... depending on how bored i really am :)

I thought this was mostly going on for stuff like Major or superior runes, not weapons and such. I can understand the runes, not the weapons :-)

Re: Question

You can see several built-in mods even on still unid'd weapons, namely any form of HP plus, or HP/energy degen for vampiric/zealous/damage always bonusses.
You just hold them in your hand and watch your pips and life bar, then you already know those mods are on it.
Of course, other mods like armor plus or the % ones can hardly be tested before.

But you know, if you wanna buy weapons for the +30 HP upgrade, just don't. People selling them test them before, and if its such a valuable one they'll never sell it for cheap anyways ;)

Re: Question

I buy Unid gold at times (ye I know, most ppl dont) and I've actually made a profit.
Just the other day I bought a gold staff for 5K and managed to salvage a +5 armor mod from it (now unlocked for pvp aswell).
Also a +5armor mod for a bow from a 1K crap gold bow (not even max damage...) and a +29health head from a 3K gold. Also an axe that turned out to be +14% always -5 energy for 6K... And I could go on for a while :P

Also agree with Star on this one, sheesh this is 5 times now we agree on something lol.

Even though I have a bit of luck getting gold items some of the items when IDed made me laugh.

Gold Fiery Dragon sword when IDed = Gold Fiery Dragon sword no mods :O

Re: Question

I'm going to take a random guess none of you have stopped by the International District in Augury Rock.

Buying unidentified items is a great way to save up money. Is it risky? Yes. But you'll notice that you can buy for cheap, sell for high even for unidentified items. Maybe none of you won't buy them, but a lot of people would. It is not just unlocking runes and weapon mods, but it is to take the risk of getting a profit or benefit. Being a entrepeneur in Guild Wars, really. :)

So far from buying random unided stuff, I was able to get a 15>50 18% Enchantment 10:8 Sundering Flamberge, and a couple of Gold Hand Axes/White Scythes that are worth more than 10k, of course to the average people who buy. And all that just for... 3k. :)
