We have all been to FOW when someone will type "Don't open the chest yet" after the "Tower of Courage" quest (and of course someone always does). People can't even agree on WHEN (after the forgematser, after wailing lord, etc) you wait to open it, and WHAT extra (golds for everyone, purples for everyone, etc) comes out after you wait. I have tried opening the chest near Rastigan (in tower) after the "Defend the Temple" quest (from Forgemaster), and it is still one purple.
I believe the reason people type "Don't open the chest yet" is because they heard this rumor from someone else and want to see if it's true. It's always "I heard from someone..." or "someone else said...", it's never "Last time when my group waited to open the chest...".
So, can anyone confirm the truth of this rumor with a screenshot? The next best thing would be a first hand account, but then again not really, because that person could be lying, which is how I think this rumor started in the first place.
Until I see a screenshot or experience it myself, I won't believe it.
Finally, I would be interested in screenshot confirmation of ectos dropping places other than UW or ectos being salvaged from something, both of which I also don't believe.

Well all it does is give purples only one and the other rumor is that if you open it that they wont drop shards thats not true i was in there with my ele and got 2 shards after some1 opened it so its not true.

I have never heard of the one about shards not dropping after you open the chest, and I too have seen shards drop after it is open.

I heard, if you opened the chest bevor completing the quest in the tower you would get normal drops, but when opened after the completion of the quest it would drop a gold item for everyone. We tried several times, and this is NOT true.
As for the part with the shards and them not dropping, never heard of it, and definitly false.

even though i have been there relativly few times i can confirm that it is not true.

Personally, I think that this is a trick of the human mind.
For example, someone is unlucky when they open it right away, but when they wait once or twice they get good, so they tell everyone it is good.
Thinking it true, people think, or remember better, the times when the theory was true, and forget the times when it seemed false. Just my 2 cents.
By the way, as to the shard thing, I can concur with the rest that that is totallly wrong.

Yup, no shards.
About the gold items. Hm... a few months ago I was able to get one gold item. And over time passed, rumors kept going around and around, and no one can verify sometimes because people want to keep it a secret, someone rushed to open the chest, etc. In my opinion, I think it is completely random. Too lazy to go try it out right now, seeing how I'm at work.

I have also heard that if everybody in the party has a key then chest you open with that key will be gold. They one time I made sure everybody had a key in UW this was true, but that does not make it a fact. Any thoughts on this?

in uw its random..first drop color determines what color the chest drops...if you see someone get a purple, dont chance it...it they get a gold, then your item will be gold as well...this has been confirmed and I tell people in my group all the time, so that maybe the word will get out.
