So, now that we know pets will be a part of LotRO, post your ideas about pets here, like, what kind of pets would you want in LotRO?

I like the idea of pets in the game. Let's hope they don't get too outrageous with it. Please, no dragons or anything like that. Things like bears, wolves, mountain lions, etc., would be less lore contradictary. I don't recall anyone in the LotR books as having a pet (wargs and oliphants are "domesticated" mounts, and therefore, like horses, don't count).
I believe that Turbine will stay very simple on this issue, simply because of the fact that they don't want a lore fiasco on their hands. We'll have to wait and see what happens... now I'm curious...

Farmer Maggot had three hounds and Tom Bombadil had a million pets.... Oh! and don't forget Beorn!!

These are good examples of story characters owning pets, however, the circumstances surrounding both Beorn and Tom Bombadil are unique. While it is totally acceptable to have hounds as pets, like Farmer Maggot, the fact that Tom Bombadil was (is) a supernatural being, and that Beorn was a skin changer pretty much nixes any thought of these character types being playable within the game.

Well, not intentionally =/...
Like I said in my previous post, you brought up some excellent pet examples, which shows that you have a good grasp of your Middle Earth lore. I admire that, particularly coming from an old monkey like yourself. LOL... Last thing I'd want to do is ruin your good ideas. By all means, keep throwing stuff out there. It generates conversation.

I've wanted one of these as a pet ever since I first saw him. He even has a collar for me to put a leash on to take him for walks in the park!

actually I've found that pretty much all birds are strange if you watch them for any period of time.

And I plan on taking him to Petsmart to find out what they think I should be feeding him to help his teeth some. I think getting him in the car maybe a bit of a chore though.

Hum... that sounds like a good plan. I'm going to have to look into getting large portions of human flesh... er ham bones that is.

well if u get a cave troll i get a balrog but i think i might keep it away from grass and mostly things that burn mostly eveything and prefferabeley me not sure how that works not sure i want him to lick me but u never know i could be that amazing being dead like i am

Nuts to all u people and ur "Cuddly" cave trolls and pigeons. The best pet would be something that can watse entire villages with a single thought. Something like the balrog... a dragon... or sauron lol

Well i cant remember what pets where in the story, guess I will have to go back and read it again, hope im done before the game comes out, lol. But I would love to have a tiger! a white tiger to be more specific! Otherwise and owl, a white owl! or a brown i spose, i dont care, as long as its a nice big poofy owl! :D

but seiously, pets will probably be standard fair boar hounds stags(?) bears wolves
If they do flying pets maybe falcons owls or hopefully even eagles O_o
I dont really know what pets they could realisticly have keeping with lore, I mean basiclly all the cool pets spiders wargs etc are already defined as evil
hopefully we will get some pleasent suprises...
