But I would like to see an adults only, or at least a 16-17+, server for the outposts and missions. Maybe make it so you have to register so you can get in with a specific account or character.
It may be that Guild Wars is very popular with the kiddies, or it could be just because it is free, but there seem to be a higher proportion of them on, and much much younger in general, than I am used to, and I've played plenty of online MMORPG's.
Too many pugs where I scolded the group members for lack of coordination or just plain idiocy before leaving group turned out to be all kids age 10-14 (THEM: "Don't yell at me, I'm only 12...yeah me too, I'm 12 almost 13.... Hey kewl, I'm 11" ME: Wondering how I made my way into romper room).
While there are plenty of adult idiots and buttheads, and I don't expect an adult server to be some kind of pug paradise, when you know your group members are 16+, you at least have a better shot at finding patient, logical thinkers than you do with a group of 10 year olds.
In addition, I work with kids, and would like the option to be sure I'm playing with adults when I'm in the mood for it.
I did not post this to be down on kids or to anger the child-loving among you, but this is where we say what we wish for, and this is truly my biggest wish for ch2

Interesting idea, but it would never happen and anyway:
SERVERS = MONTHLY COST

even if they did think about it.. is it really that hard to get past a age requirement by signing somthing? all they would have to do is say yeah im 16+ when there like 5 years old.

i can see your point it's just that you don't know who you are playing with. For one thing the people that have just screwed up might be saying "oh i'm only 12" because, well they just screwed up, there is no way of telling, if you have just compleatly messed up and someone is ranting and raving at you then your gonna either fight back or say something to make them feel sorry for you like your only 12. Along with that thought of people lying to get what they want, just beacuse they are under 16-17+ doesn't stop them saying they are 16-17+, there are thousands of children that have fake id's and buy cigerettes and alcahol when they are under age, people are gonna lie just to get in to play with the adults, the bigger groups, and make themselfs feel bigger and stronger. I agree with you that there might be some kids out there that mess up but it would be a waste of time and effert to do something along those sorts.

Yeah good point, it would require people give over credit card account info to prove they are old enough and that would be hard to implement. First because no one would want to give that info if they don't have to pay, and second because I think nowadays even some kids have credit cards. Also that would be even more cost for Anet.
Both of you have good points actually, thanks for crushing my dreams :) (j/k)

mmm, us kids are often stearotyped, i myself am only 14, yes well the younger 10-12 possibly 13 can be annoying sometimes, but than theres the kids who act more mature sometimes than people who are 18, depends on your personality, and like the guy above said, anyone could easily say they were 16 and it would pose a problem, be complciated too.
Hey, fairly new person here to this site, good site.

Yeah, I know a dude in his 20s, but he acts like a 12y-old brat. And in Team HoaX, we have Meat, who is young, but he's a good player. So, age isn't always the determining factor in whether or not they're a good/mature player.

Yes both what slye_boy said, about aldults passing themselves off as kids as an excuse, and what you say, that kids can be, and often are, more mature than they get credit for, are true. Thanks for the reply and for not getting offended by my wish, you are one of the kids I'm sure that I would have fun adventuring with.

I'll have to agree with Sroth. There are plenty of people I've met (both in my guild and not) that are adults that are total idiots. I'd much prefer to play with this 9-YR-OLD kid I have in my guild. He's a GREAT player. Also, I've seen many 16+ guilds recruiting. I think that'd be your best bet instead of an adult server.

Spoon I think you are taking this a little too personally. What what I believe Stoney was trying to say is that the general maturity level of players under 18 is less than that of those over 18. Of course age is not always, as others have pointed out, indicative of maturity but it is generally a good place to start. However, maturity is not indicative of gaming ability, which I believe is more closely tied to temprement and personality. It seems to me that what Stoney actually wants is to know when he games that he is among like-minded players. Those who understand that GW is just a game, and who are willing to give AND accept advice. Studies have shown that those under 18 are less likely to be able to cope with such situations. They are more likely, than those over the age of 18, to be argumentative and are generally unable to cope with criticism of any sort. This is not to say that ALL follow this exact behavioural pattern only that the odds are in favour of an adult being a more "mature" player.
A server based on age would be difficult to implement and impossible to police. Which is the reason why some guilds have chosen to take the age based approach. I do not disagree with this. There are plenty of other reasons for a "mature" age guild. Firstly I like to be able to talk about adult things: relationships, politics, religion, etc. Many of these things adults are more likely to be interested in, understand, and reciprocate without abuse or embrasament. Age "discrimination" in-game, as some rather annoyed players have come to call it, is generally not a case of wanting to get "only good" players, but rather to establish a group of like-minded people utilising the game in a social fashion, rather than merely for entertainment.

I remember doing a few quests with a couple players from the same guild and henchies.. one was lvl 20 ele, lvl 12 mes(me) and a lvl 13 warrior. warrior accidently drew too much aggro and did the best he could to get it away from group.. hench of course got themselves killed and brought aggro back to us.. warrior high tailed it to next rez point (he was still getting beat on) and saved us from starting over. I was like omg.../clap.. good job saving our butts back there. lvl 20 says.."sorry warrior doesn't talk much..he's my 8 year old son."
EDIT: when warrior got close to rez point and wasn't quite sure where to go.. I said "step into the light." as if directing him towards heaven.. lol. Yeaaah.. I um... refuse to completely grow up.. in the goofy non rude unhindering to the party kind of way.. if that makes any sense.

Registering is an intresting idea. It would not even have to lead to need for extra server/monhtly costs. Anet should just implement somekind of new system on how districts are being shown/used.
I once tought of this in comparrison to how irritating the trade spamming on the general channel is...
Here's a brief sketch of what I though:
Take for example Lions Arc:
D1: For trading
D2: For iddle chatting
D3: For Group forming
.
.
.
D10: Ristricted for registered players (adults ie what have you)
In other words utilize the District structure better...

i think honestly its all about play style. players seem to have there set way and sometimes those ways conflict with the parties. being as. a warrior used to soloing may cause over agro forgetting that this is a group battle. on the other hand. a warrior who is used to teamplay with support can successfully group one set of enemies at a time without ever having any other members agrod. same for monks. monks who solo as a default are not as used to healing others as they would be if they had been a default healer to begin with. so. i dont think its a matter of age. humans are creatures of habit. so we tend to stick with what weve always used. this goes for both young and old. young are just a bit more childish when there called on it.

ok yeah sorry for my first post i did take it too personal, but i am getting annoyed with some players especially some who i have met that when they find out i am fourteen laugh and basically say that i am rubbish because i am 14, i know he wasnt saying that but it has happened before and it gets annoying. Also yeah i have to agree that most adults can have more serious conversations but it isnt always true and i dont think it would be fair to discriminate against all younger players even if most of them are immature because some of them aernt.

Don't apologize spoon, it is ok to express how you feel and you didn't do it rudely at any time. I am sorry that you have been laughed at and called a NOOb because you are 14, if it makes you feel any better, I am 33 and have been laughed at and called a NOOb on more than one occasion. Don't take those people too seriously, anyone who is mean, you can tell right off they aren't worth your time and who cares what they think.
I really was wishing for an adult server more for the reasons Lady discussed, because I work with kids all day and when I'm playing, sometimes I just want to hang out with adults-- I know very well that there are great kids out there, and I wouldn't stop playing with them if there were an adult server, just not all the time.
Also, me and you have more in common than you think.. you are sick of being griefed by adults, and I wrote my post after being called a Fag repeatedly in game by someone who I strongly suspected was a youngster. But I am very glad you posted, and if you ever need help or just want to chat a bit in game, you can look me up my IGN is Reighna Bloodstar
(Oh and BTW HE (me) is a SHE ;)

It's not necessarily about age it's about the feeling of superiority. The reason you got called a noob at 14 is because the players felt they needed to have some form of superiority over you and because everyone has their own theories about what makes a good player. If you try asking the definition of noob you will not get one specific definition but rather many different ones. But yes it would be nice to have age or topic specific districts but unfortunatly ANet can't do it otherwise they would have by now.

It has been my experience that the 15 - 20 year olds are the worst to play with. They are more stubborn and refuse to listen to others ideas about a build. Also these tend to be the ones who are constantly talking "smack" in tombs and even in towns. The 13 year olds in my guild seem to be pretty cool, they will listen to others builds and will share their own.

There are adults who act like kids, and there are kids who are more mature than adults.
It's a big fat lie! See! Kids will rule the world! Parents, run and take cover! :D
But really though, don't see how this would change anything. My baby brother is more mature than a lot of people I played with on Guild Wars.

I actually feel superior being younger than most people I play with. When I beat them, "Haha, you lost to someone 10 years younger than you!"
Although I've never said that and only make fun of people in a silly, joking way that I don't mean to offend anybody with.

take me for instance. i'm 15 years old, in my first guild i stayed there and became officer in 2 weeks. the leader and all of the ppl there were mature and older than me.
although they were older, i was behaving just like them, in a civilized way. we don't need to be jerks. we don't have the necessity to be such, and we can behave like normal ppl whenever we want to.
the thing is, there's always a black sheep in the midst. i, somehow, invited a guy who seemed friendly at start, an when we least expect it, we were having a GvG that would turn the tides and destroy the guild completely.
i like that guild, i had many friends there, and they're all seperated and some even stopped playing. i was a respected member of the community we formed and i watched it fall apart.
belive me, it wasn't preety to see all those ppl there fighting and swearing when they were one gd old friends.

Well, this thread is prove, if any were needed, that people of all ages can discuss what easily could've changed into a flame war, in a 'mature', civilized matter. Kudo's all around people.
As a statistical side note, and a bit of a teaser, kids under 16 tend to double post more often than kids over 20 :-P
But it seems to me that another couple of factors are way more important than age. For one there's the 'bad-day' phenomenon. Someone normally well behaved can have a had a really lousy day and be a jerk online as a consequence. That happens just as easily to a grown up as a kid. In fact, I suspect there's more adults using the game to blow off steam than kids.
Another factor that I suspect to be enormously important in how one behaves in the game, is the anonimity factor and its allure to people.
If no-one knows you and you probably won't see them ever again, what's going to stop you from behaving in any obnoxious way you choose? To a lot of people the answer to that is "nothing", sadly enough. And that's a mind-set that you'll see in all ages that play the game. No credit-card check will ever work on that.
Btw, Credit-card, being the lousiest, most easily frauded "secure" payment system known to man, might not be the system of choice anyway. It's really only used for age-verification where the party doing the checking only does so because it's supplying material it's not legally allowed to serve to minors and really doesn't care at all, as long as money is being made.

Yes, younger kids tend to be annoying. Me, being only 13 can be pretty annoying myself. But thats not ALWAYS i'm very rarely THAT annoying. Some people can seriously be a big NOOB while some are alright. Just try to stick with people you like. Not people who you wanna beat the crap outta. :)
