As far as I can tell, all mods on the axe are now gone. I had one in my inventory, and now it's just a regular gray (or white or whatever) axe.

Yep Ive just checked the one I had in storage and its turned in to a simple white axe now, I'm glad I hadn't applied any mods. I feel for the people that did, especially if they paid for them and they have been stripped too.

I disagree. However, that is not to say I appreciate it. ANet nerfs items, runs, skills, builds and areas because it creates a balance issue within both PvP and PvE. The economy is a delicate thing. Philosopher and ecomomist, Jo Bonner once said, " At many points during our nation's history, there have been times - known in our history textbooks as "panics" - when adverse conditions affecting the financial and economic sectors of the country have caused individuals to hoard more than they need. " In essence, or from what I've learned in University Economy, this statement is highy appropriate. The panics, in this circumstance, are the SoA axe. They were hoarded because of it's value in gold and platinum. At the point right before the nerf, the demand of the axe and it's various upgrades (enchatments + fortitude) skyrocketted. Therefore, the value went up. If they had not been 'nerfed' out of existence, then players that were hoarding them would have become immensely rich. This would cause an economic boom at the traders, presuming that the player's newfound wealth was spent at the trader on Ecto/Shards/Whatever/Runes/Etc... This would cause a gross economic imbalance, which in essence, would make the price of Ecto skyrocket because the player's demand is becoming greater than the trader's supply. This = bad. If this happened, then Fissure of Woe armor would become a true feat to any non hoarding player. In closing, I'd like to become rich, sure. But I would not like to mess with the economy of this game. 'Nerfing' this axe was a positive move on the part of ArenaNet.

ARRRGGGHHH I'm gonna commit suicide in front of the anet building. All they seem to be able to do is nerf stuff.
Get the newspaper tomorrow morning, Maybe i'll make front page!

Alright you may be able to complain about the farming nerf but you have no right to complain about this one. This was a glitch that was never meant to exist in GW and they fixed it. If you have a glitch in Windows let's say you demand it fixed and this is no different. The fact was if you bought this item knowing it was a glitch and didn't think that ANet might nerf it or fix the glitch just means you weren't thinking ahead and you deserved to lose the money.

I agree Aon' anything that keeps the balance is a good thing but there will be plenty of players who weren't hording nor greedy who may have lost a fair bit of cash. For those I have sympathy. I had one in storage after I heard about the glitch but never intended to buy mods or hoard, just apply when found in drops. Personally Ive not lost out at all and am not dissapointed by it.

In the immortal words of Swamp Fox...
I'm glad and sad that they did this nerf....I actually had a build that had about a 0.01% chance of losing a 1 Vs. 8. Using 40% enchantment modifier, +37% from the monk divine favor skill. so thats 77% for monk enchants. combine that with spell breaker and Arcane Echo, that allows you to 31.87 spell breaker. So you duplicate spell breaker with arcane echo, and you can keep it up infinatly. Then you use mantra of ____ (forget name) which makes u not be interupted. So that makes you not spellable-interuptaable, and then u use the invincimonk thing, so also non-meleeable
This was a way to be Completly invincible only things i found that would get through are chillblainds, melee knockdown, ranger knockdown, trap knockdown.
Also a 37 protective spiritm and 18sec healing breeze not so bad eh? =)

When people exploit glitched items, they should EXPECT that sooner or later, the glitch will be fixed. The ONLY thing a-net did with this latest patch is to fix a couple of glitches.
People were selling the SoA axe, and advertising that it was glitched. That kind of traffic get's A-net's attention. If you want to point fingers of blame for the nerf on this one, point them at all the people that were selling those axes for ungodly amounts of money, who KNEW that the items were glitched.
A-net did the right thing on this one - they fixed a glitched weapon and a glitched skill (incendiary bonds). Anyone left complaining is someone who was knowingly exploiting the glitch to either (a) use the glitched item for farming in some way or (b) profit off the glitch by selling the item for massive amounts of money.

Why are people referring to this as a "nerf"? It was a bug fix that prevents exploiting. That is a fix IMO, not a nerf.

Personally, I'm glad they fixed the glitch. I found it extremely funny, that people was selling these thigns for 50k, and people actually buying them. I say good job for the people that made the money, and the people that bought them, tough luck.

I was just bringing a new charachter up through when I found out about the axe, so I saved it and put a +16% Enchant length grip I had on it, just to see how it worked. Axe is now clean after the update, even the graphic has changed on it. I don't have a problem with them fixing an oversight (this was not a glitch,) but they could have warned people right away that they were going to do so. Anet often does a poor job of comunicating with game players and this is just another instance of it. Maybe someone should tell them what MOTD stands for, and maybe they should put other things ahead of selling crappy sound packs on the logon screen.

im sure Anet intended people that exploited this glitch to lose their mods that they put on it. AND they deserve it, you exploited a glitch, what do you expect.
Next yer gonna say people that get banned by A net should get a warning so they can sell their account on ebay first
There is no constitution afforded by Anet you are not garunteed rights.
And to those people (and guilds sadly)that used the 40% ench axe in HoH you should be ashamed of yourselves and forever labled cheaters. I;m glad my guild beat so many of those teams last weekend, guess it didnt help that much in the end.

Kinda off topic here. Running to missions or running though missions has become insanely easy. I feel this in a way destroys the game. The "farming nerf" just made it so easy to make a run becuase nothing chases you for a great distance all you have to do is maintain a sprint and heal for a few seconds past the monsters. Even the slowing spells can be countered fairly simply. The area from beacons perch to rankor should be closed I am tired of see lvl 3 in the forge or lvl 12's wearing 15k armor. It's a game it should be played as a game not to jump area and get over powered items for the area you belong in.
As to the most recent nerfing of the axes well there were being used in a manner that was not intended it had to be done.

Yeah, icemonkey, but this was not a glitch. This was a programming oversight. Whoever created the axe, created one with 2 mods on it. It has been there since the begining and someone finally noticed it and took advantage of it. For all we know it could have been intentionaly done and then just forgotten about. Certainly people were foolish for going overboard on it, and it was greatly over-rated, but Anet should have seen what was going on and put the clamps on it imediately, not ignored it for a week and then blindsided everyone with it. I am not saying the item should have been left alone, I am just saying Anet did a damn poor job of resolving the problem in a reasonable way. All they had to do was post a message on the log on screen that it was a mistake and that it would be deleted. Maybe if Anet would get off their *sses and put a stop to bot farming, people wouldn't be able to drive the prices up for stuff so easily. But Anet seems to be about as committed to stopping cash for gold as they were to getting the Tormentor armor out. Maybe by the time the 4th expansion comes out they will have done something meaningful about it, but I am not holding my breath.
"And to those people (and guilds sadly)that used the 40% ench axe in HoH you should be ashamed of yourselves and forever labled cheaters." Again, this was not a glitch or some kind of a hacked exploit. The Axe had to have been intentionaly programmed that way and then the developers failed to either notice or remove it. But just to make you happy, I will submit all my itmes and skill sets to you so that you can tell me what I am allowed to use, or not use. Or better yet, I will start playing with no armor, weapons, foci, or shileds and no skills in my skillbars so you won't accuse me of taking advantage of anything in the game.

This was a Glitch fix not a nerf. :)
The secound I saw that in the GW logs I logged straight into lions arch to watch the complaints. All I have to say is what do you expect when you abuse a glitch. Though I do feel bad that some people paid around 200k for the axe and the 20% extra mod together. 40% extra for a monk though is what made me glad this happened. Imagine how overpowered this would make an enchanting monk.

Eh.
For the people who spent 200k on that axe, sorry you lost your money's worth.
But, for the people who spent 200k on that axe, my apologies only go so far. Anyone willing to spend 200k on ANY 1 item in the game is either looking to:
1.) Build a collection (that's a moneysink I have no problem with)
2.) Use it to put the hurt on people in tourneys and Vs. which is unfair to the extreme, seeing as how money=opportunity in that instance.
3.) Spend 200k to make 1,000,000k farming and power-fighting.
This glitch was an exploit to make all your wildest Guild Wars fantasies a reality. If money is such a large concern for you, Guild Wars really isn't your game.
And if you can cry over the 10-200k you spent on an exploit axe, then you can learn to spend your money more wisely in-game.
Understand this: Anet isn't evil for doing what they did. It was easier to remove one double-grip axe than implement double grips for every item in the game. And even if they only removed one grip from that axe in your inventory, people would still complain that they lost the 20% enchantment instead of the 15% one.
Let the neg cred ensue =)

When I heard about the axe I immediately thought 'this is so going to get fixed retroactively' so I couldn't possibly care less and continued my usual activities.
When some of my friends heard about the axe they thought 'this is going to get fixed soon' so they farmed some axes (repeatedly beelined through the pre-searing to get the SoA guest) then sold them for a pretty sum of money :)
I really cannot feel compassion for those that burned their life savings on useless items, any more than I'd do for people who give away their earthly possessions because they believe that the end of the world is nigh (exactly speaking next Tuesday around 3 p.m. or possibly a quarter past). There just isn't an Insightful Shield Against Poor Judgement (20% chance when disillusioned).

i lost about 500k in investments on these axes, however, i knew and accepted the risks as i was 100% certain arena net would nerf them, i was just unsure how.
if you spend money to invest in a glitch you must accept the consequences.
fortunatly for me, unlike many out there, i can afford to take this kind fo a hit and i'm no worse for the weather.

I would tend to disagree with that statement. ANet has been a very attentive host and have added a ton of fixes and additional content after they already had our $50 (or whatever). They have put a lot of time and effort into serving their user base and can expect to get no more money for it than our original purchase price. I'm a software developer myself, so I know what kind of time and effort it takes to do what they have done. From purely a business perspective they have gone above and beyond for their customers.
Flame me and give me negative credit if you will, but I have to agree with most of the posters in this thread. You are taking a huge risk by investing gold into exploiting something that you know ahead of time is unintentional functionality. Exploits are eventually going to be fixed, and one must consider the possibility of negative consequences.
Just my opinion.

ANet have been very fair, in controlling exploits.
They\'ve made the invincimonk harder, trickier and less noob proof, without actually fully nerfing the solo ability. Granted Protective Bond was kinda killed, but what if they made Prot Spirit a target other Ally only? And added an extra energy cost each time it protects. There\'s loads they could do to actually fully nerf a build.
The people who say having two Axe Grips, may have not been a glitch or bug...
Well, how many Hand Grips does a one-handed weapon need?
It was a simple bug fix, that nerfed an exploit... obviously this is why they fixed it, but feeling victimised because they are picking on a build that defeats the object of a MMORPG is foolish... IMO
-
Just wait till someone else, finds something else, then tells everybody else... Then you can copy someone elses idea, and then moan when they nerf \"your\" build...
(Not directed at anybody in particular - just the people who bored the hell out of me in LA)

i suspect your still pretty tough to beat, but would life transfer disease poison being spammed on you have any effect?
rend enchantments might hurt
as for the nerf well justified tho it is in the fact thats its a bug in the weapon or exploit in the game it still hurts people.

Why not just remove the Denravi sword from the inventories of those who have them? Or completely remove the -50 cesta aswell? After all those who have the sword still exploit its value when selling them on. Just kill the build entirely and that way people can only get dissapointed and angry once with a complete and utter removal of any and all items used for it.
A +60hp axe would indeed be very nice for running. But to the comment about running having been made easier. That may be the case with the runs that were already easy as pie before. But the Droks run was made harder after the update. So I don't see what you mean with that.
If they had removed it only as a quest reward and left them in inventories then yes those who had them would become quite rich. People take advantages where and when they see them. Those who saw a window of opportunity here aren't necessarily 'greedy' or whatever you want to call them. You see a chance to make money and you go for it. You take a risk (if you're buying them) and can either win or lose. In this case no-one wins. Except those who started farming/PvPing with it from day one.
What gets me is that there must have been someone somewhere who first noticed this axe. What drove this person to spread the word? Was it simply to show off? I mean if only one person noticed it and kept it quiet they could have had a huge advantage over the other 2 million or so (?) accounts on GW.
Perhaps that person already did, and has been using it in such a way for months already.
