Is anyone else getting this error (NetErr=40)when trying to enter old ascalon or is it just me,
its stopping me from playing three of my charachters because they are all in old ascalon but i get this error message everytime i try to go there...=)

Yah, I'm trying to run my character through the Dropping Eaves quest, but it is not letting me in the place the mantle are. Not letting tme to ice caves of sorrow either.

There appears to be problems all over the place. Some people who logged off in their Guilds, can\'t get out... Rumours are that its the nerf for anti-running, but whatever the new update was for, it wasn\'t tested fully.
Software - Don\'t ya just love it ;o)

Alot of regions you cant get into anymore. I and alot of people have had some error 40's lately. Not good for the game

Afaik know neterror 40 means the server itself is down. Being that specific server that runs that location.
I sincerely doubt that it's related to any "anti-running" nerf. With every nerf there's been prior hinting by ArenaNet that they'd be doing something about it. With running they've stated that they endorse it. So nerfing that would be kinda odd. So let's not asusme the worst just yet.
Hmm, network issues on the 21t of december, could it possibly be related to some Christmas theme being set up?

I'm at work and about to leave, so I haven't personally experienced whats going on.
Lets not be quick to jump on the rumour wagon, and continue to spread it.
There is nothing in the update about anything remotely relating to a running nerf.

Could be something to do with christmas but they didnt change ascalon for halloween, Only lions and droks were changed so why would the ascalon and ice caves servers be down if it was something to do with christmas... >:)

bergen is also down as is nebo terrace and augury rock, basically all over the place has neterr=40, methinks xmassy stuff to :D

Well, why would they change just those two cities this time, if they're even going to do something similar?
Also, don't think of the servers as a machine per location.
Instances of locations could very well be running on the same machine though be very seperate in the game. We wouldn't know it.
For all we know the machine(s) on which heavy-traffic Old Ascalon plus some low traffic area's such as Ice Tooth Cave are down because the cpu-cooler gave out or something.

Question is...for those who have experienced this ....are you guys on international servers or american servers?
Maybe some are on american and others are on international?

You have a very good point there well made.
I would love them to put some christmassy stuff in the game but its a bit frustrating if that is what there doing that i cannot get access to 3 of my game charachters. if its a server problem then i suppose we just have to wait until Anet get it sorted

yeah, I'm ab;e to log to all my chars. Soem cities are blocked and soem are dont, I've beemn lucky to sit in those cities. There are teh following: TOA, LA, Heroes audience, Tombs, Gates of Kryta, ... there are feww more but I think there are so many of them left. Suppore they r doing some anti hack check-up or something ?

Hey everyone,
Our support staff here in Europe are being swamped with reports. We're very much aware of the issue, and it is currently being investigated and a solution worked on. I believe you should be able to logon and travel to the affected locations very shortly.
