Personally i like Fire/Fire for any mob situations because with a healer that knows what he is doing you can lvl about 3-4 mobs of lvl +3 of you and i would know mine just hit 29 about 10 minutes ago and fyi Fire Sword Circle RULES!! But alas they arent the most durable tanks so i dont really herd much at my lvl.Anyway if you want durable but still want crowd control then for the durable part i would suggest Rock or Invulnerability but keep Fire as your secondary. But this isnt a primary PvP build.Hope that helps you out a little ;-)

I would say STONE for your defence because you get resistance to all damage types. Although its appearence is laughable (ask WarShadow). I would take Fire as a Secondary because of the high damage attacks.

ok.. for a classic "all I do is sit here draw aggro and take a beating" tank... I LOVE my ss/invuln... basically just the invuln part of it...the SS was a concept thing... but I love her... I can pull aggro off another tank... and when we're teamed I often end up doing just that after he gathers them up (simply because he's a more experienced tank and would rather not see me die... such a nice guy that Iceland is. ;)
but other than that I'm rather fond of Mr. Iceland's tank... he's ice (obviously) fire I think, can't seem to take damage like I can but still a good tank. :)

I have to a agree with sapphire, Invunrability seems to have done pretty well after after ED. I don't know why, but I seem to be doing a lot better than other tanks. However, there is no resistance to psi damage. One problem with stone in PvP might be the slowness. As for secondary I wouldn't know. Energy melee is good for disorientating apparently, so that might be good for dropping toggles.

heres my 2cents from a self proclaimed tank master :P i love invul. my new love, super blaze is now 50 and i am invul/fire/fire. i can tank ANYTHING!!! my only primary powers are temp invul, dull pain, unyielding, invince and tough hide. i also picked up unstoppable because i dont want any inherent resist powers. i also have box, tough, weave and combat jumping. i run 5 toggle because i usually dont use combat jumping and i can easily take mobs of +2/+3 with no risk since my DP is fast to recharge. and with fire secondary and fire mastery, i have 3 aoes. when i hit buildup then combusiton then fireball then fire sword circle, i can drop 10 even con baddies in a few seconds. and with incinerate and greater fire sword i have a lot of high dmg, lowly resisted attacks. but dont get me wrong fire tanks are still good too. fire tanks are different than the rest because they are ALL dmg res and NO DEF. with healing flames 6 slotted with 3 heal and 3 end red, if you have tough on top of fire shields, yorue good to go. and of course stone is great too. my beef with stone is the HUGE cut in power recharge when in granite armor. even if you run hasten, it doesnt fullt make up for the recharge cut. also with granite, you get abotu a 30% dmg reduction. but yeah you can take TONS of dmg and be a true meatshield with stone. and this is my new experiment, the ice tank. so far, with a lvl 11 ice/stone tank....I LOVE IT!!! i really dont know why ice gets such a bad name. it has the highest primary power shields of all the tanks. if you get weave, combact jumping and maneuvers, yorue smsh/lthl defense is +40%!!!!! thast sickening!! plus with chilling embrace, you actually get a dmg reduction from enemy attacks, its like hving dmg res built in! you can't beat that! with ice though, be careful of fire! as for secondaries, ive played them all except axe or mace. so heres my take. ice melee sucks!!!! no dmg output. if you wann be a tru meatchield then its great because ice patch but if you wanna contribute to team dmg, then avoid ice. stone melee is great! great single dmg output but a weak aoe. energy melee might be the best single target primary with 2 extreme attacks and an aoe that is slightly better than stone melee. fire melee is great for aoe as it has combustion and fire swrod circle as well as the cone breath of fire (but fire breath is tough to use). fire sword circle might be the highest dmg aoe in the game behind novas. and as a said before, incinerate is listed as high but could be considered superior and at times, greater fire sword seems almost to do extreme dmg. super strength is another great dmg set because you can run perma rage without any real negativce sideeffects. plus foot stomp is 2nd in line behind fire sword circle with regards to aoe power. also you get your extreme attack very early on. in addition, not too many people take it, but you can get hurl which is a ranged attack nice for when baddies try to run.
well thats all i have, thanks for listening all! sorry if i repeated anything ^_^

Another really good PvP/PvE combo is Fire/Ice
The damage output from fire is extremely nice, and then with ice you can make your opponents slip and fall a lot. Great for keeping your survivability rate high.

Tank I have been using a lot recently is a Stone/Ice tank and I have been doing very good. The one big thing I am waiting for is to get Ice patch so I can keep the enemies falling down next to me while I have mudpots going.

My 2 influence worth is coming....
Invul/SS. I do believe, IMO, that for damage output and defense, can't beat it. It does have it's "Kryptonite" (Psi). However, once you get past that, it has everything you want 1) High Defense (and gets a def bonus with high mobs) 2) High damage 3)slight AoE attacks (all attacks have capability if mobs tightly packed/stacked) 4) and the animations are just too freakin cool!
all of this..and i never had hasten as part of my build. And not to brag or gloat...ahem, but I have not respec'd my tank at all and he was made during I4 and he is as effective today as he was then (give or take some percentage points).

like everyone has said Stone and Invul have the best defense so a good tank would be Invul or Rock/Fire for herding capabilites

Ummm. I have seen ALOT of Invun/SS and they out agrro'd **/fire tanks. First you get Several Disorent atk as a SS. Second you get several KB's. Third you get AoE Hold. And Forth, You get a range atk (great for PvE/PvP) which has KB and -Fly (you throw a big rock at your opponent. Your last power in SS is a big AoE (16 targets i believe) that very powerful.
I have a level 50 F/F/Elec Blaster, and there are 3 things i can't out agrro. 1) Peacebringers. 2)Warshades. 3)Invun/SS tank.
That my two cents.

Power is only a tool. How you use it determines everything.
If you use it to help and protect others then you will be great in the eyes of others, and be called a Hero.
But if you use your power the opposite of that, you will be feared by the the same eyes, and be called a Villian.
This opition I give to you. Choose wisely.

Sorry Fire/Fire tank is the only type of tank i have played past lvl 10 so i dont really know much more then that the Fire secondary deals pretty good damage to mobs.

Furon is my fire/fire tank about to ding 30 (he is my primary toon on Champion). I took combat jumping and 3 slotted it (one slot DO jump increase and two slots SO def increase). This provides a decent defense against attacks, in conjunction with Fire Shield, Plasma Shield and Blazing Aura.
Blazing aura helps whittle away at the secondary attackers in a mob while the fire tank turns his attentions on a primary target. I use consume when my endurance gets to about half (this damages and lightly stuns opponents who are hit and gives you endurance back). All and all with the right damage enhancements slotted into your offensive powers(Yes, Virginia, you can get some serious damage enhancements even with ED. Furon's fire sword deals 95 points on average, with secondary damage as high as 20 points), along with a good idea of when to run away if you are getting over whelmed, this tank version outstripped my invuln/ss tank. And yes, Furon gets debt, sometimes a lot of debt LOL, then again who does not?

In my opinion this is how i see tankers:
Fire Aura is the melee of the 4 primary auras.
Earth(stone) is the big bad tanker if you dont like to do any dmg.
Inv.-just don't even ask i heard it use to be good and got the boot.
Ice is for the people that like to look cool and take a lot of dmg and do dmg also.
Well for the secondaries its just your opinion....but in mine i think all tanker secondaries are too slow to do any real dmg.

My 2 cents
I love Fire/stone
Fire in pvp helps detect enemies :) blazing aura is your friend
Stone not the most damage but the must on your booty damage.
I respect and after my free respec at level 40 there is not to many that can kill me out right and I can go toe to toe endo with the best of them
