| Is there a guidebook for Guild Wars? |
|
|
|
The small booklet that came with the game is quite vague. I don't really know what all the stuff I pick up is for. Like those runes and stuff, purple stuff etc
I may be selling goods to vendor that are worth a lot, but don't know
For instance those round thingy's, runes I think they are called, I can click on them any which way but all it does is equip it.
Is there a way to upgrade weapon or armor with those things?
Is there some kind of guidebook? I know there is info on the forum but it is hard to find it with so many threads, could take me weeks to go through all of them

aww don't use a guide book. be a true player and figure it out for yourself. besides if you use a walkthrough you tend to miss out on the rewarding feeling you get when you figured something out for yourself and tend to build up a reliance on that said book....And when that book doesn't have the thing you are looking for you tend to be SOL.

Looking around on sites like this, you can find a lot of information about what something is. And a lot of the higher level people in the game are willing to help out a bit if you ask very nicely.

Not me though. only give guides not walkthroughs. I'll give you tips and general ideas behind things but i'll never give you step by step instructions on how to do something.

I think if the game was fully documented before people played it, then it would lose its appeal as a Role Playing game.
Things become valuable, not because the game says so, but because people demand it, or, yearn for it.
You'll often find written guides for the missions and quests, but the best place to find information about an RPG is actually in-game, or the very thing you have done... Join an online community like GameAmp - and ask for information...
Also, stop in towns etc, and listen to what people are WTB/S (Wanting To Buy/Sell), you get a rough idea of prices for items. And don't worry about selling expensive stuff for peanuts... I'm sure we've all done it... I know I have!

If there is a guide book that is available at Frys, sorry but I am in Australia and we have no Frys.
Who publishes the guidebook? Is it Prima? cannot see it on their site.
As to asking people ingame. OK I love this game, but as far as community is concerned, I can ask and ask and ask ingame, as nicely as I want, I don't get any replies. In Wow I never had that problem, but I guess here it is more multinational or something and each nationality tends to answer to their own (even though they speak english)

You will probably want to join a guild and ask them for advice. And if a guild doesn't give you advice and basic information when you ask for it, they aren't worth being a part of. Good guilds will have at least a few members who are polite, experienced, and helpful, and these members will be a valuable asset to you until you learn enough to stand on your own in the game.
As far as runes go, to equip them, first you have to use an Expert Salvage Kit on the item that they are a part of. For instance, if you find a Stalker Armor of Minor Vigor, you have to use the Expert Salvage Kit on it to get the actual rune. Once you do this, the item will disappear from your inventory and be replaced with the Rune itself. Then to use the rune, you double-click on it, then double-click on the piece of armor that you want to put it on (this doesn't really matter early on, but later in the game some people prefer having multiple armor and rune sets for different uses).
If you can't find anywhere to buy Expert Salvage Kits, you are probably in the area known as presearing. If you're getting runes in pre, you're probably doing Charr hunting north of the Wall, which probably means that you're ready to leave this area. Do all the quests labeled as Primary Quests in your quest menu (the "L" key is standard to open this), and when an NPC asks you if you are ready to leave everything behind, accept and you'll be sent to the next area. Of course, if you've already done this, ignore it because you've already done it.
Good luck and best wishes with Guild Wars. It's a vastly superior game to any other non-subscription game, and is even superior to most of the supscription games (at least, I think so). And if you need help in the future about anything, ask guildmates or come online here and we will assist you.

yes there is a guide book. Guild Wars Official Game Guide. It is put out by Prima. It is not a walkthrough, but it will tell you a lot of excelant information on all the differant professions. It also has all the maps for the differant ares, a PVP guide, and a skills list. But it wont tell you how to do any one certain quest. But it will tell you where to pick up the differant quests. And it does have a general guide line for all the missins. It has information on all the differant drops, armor, weapons etc...
The best part is it comes with a rather large world map that I have found to be very helpful. I know some people would say that it is like cheating, but it has come in real handy for me and my guild. And I like having valuable information at my fingertips instead of having to take the time to try to find the answers online.
