man how much i hate rank and fame!!

ok, so i was in tomb of primeavl kings, while i was a rezmer, lfg, so i wanted to join a team, and the leader asks, whats your rank and fame? i say, only 1 fame, this is just a pvp char i started, i was a rezmer alot in roleplaying, and he says, LMAO NOOB, ONLY 1 FAME! then he tells me i have to "complete the game" then goto tomb of primeavel kings! I mean what does he mean??? ive complted all missions, even hell pricipine, and even, ascended, then he says im still an noob, then asks, what kinda rezmer are you?ay, what are you talking about, ima rezmer, i rez, and heal! then he says come back to me when you really know what is guild wars, then i say wtf????

i dont get this, i hate rank and fame

I think they should either get rid of Rank and Fame or make it easier to get!

I am a MM myself, and always get the question "Wich r u have?"

When I say that I only have 10 fame, people start calling me noob and warning me not to screw up in the match! Once inside, I find that the guys shooting at me for being a "noob?!!!" are actualy BAD and I mean REAL BAD!

It's not a bout your rank or your fame! It's about your build and how u work it! If u know how to use your build, you are a good player! As simple as that!! I have seen lvl 20 guys getting owned by lvl 16 guys (I was the lvl 16 guy :p) Just because I tought about my build and I balanced it and the lvl 20 guys just didn't!!

Rank and Fame don't make a person a better/worse gamer!! The person does that to himself!!

That's too bad, the person really must be clueless when it comes to this game. For 1 rank/fame are not the be all, end all for determining skill. 2, why do you need a r3+ when all the person needs to do is press res repeatedly?!

Anyways I hope you have more luck finding groups in the future.

thats sounds like one of the many reasons i dont play pvp. however dont let that guy get to you if you want to do something do it and practice at it. im not sure i think a resmer might be someone who uses fast casting to restore life quickly possibly they use echo or archane echo to res more than a monk could so effectivly means your looking at some build focused yet again around one skill.
the rest you make up yourself.

It's all about superiority. Since there is no direct way to prove you're better than another player, they use the system of rank to prove to themselves, not to anyone else, that they are better. It's actually what happens in all MMOs where one system of ranking is used to show skill and all others are ignored. There's nothing you can do about it since it's kind of a mental condition you have at a younger age and sometimes retain throughout adulthood. Just pity them and move on with your life.

I always like to play against the rank 3+ ppl who decide to show up in Comp Arena. Most of them play soo poorly when out of an organized group that they and most of the ppl on their team die quickly.

Quick question on rank/fame: Is it account wide like Faction or does each individual character have to earn it?
If its account wide, I can see a real problem with basing player skill on rank.

well i find the rank and fame just a noob tactic to try and say there better then some 1 else but they are the noobs as all they can do is IWAY and when it comes to other stuff there dumb as pigshit so i usually go to tombs with guild mates and mates only

fame and faction are both account wide. once one character has it, all characters have it.

well i personally think rank and fame should stay the same,

small example of my case:

last week i decided to go to Tombs inter dist with my Ele who's R3, after 4 minutes or so i see some1 recruiting for a migraine mesmers, so what i do is send him a whisper that i got a illusion mesmer and that im R3 and explained to him what skills i run (including migraine) and how i planned to play my roll as a migraine mesmer, so what i did was told him to w8 for me, i got my mesmer (unluckly i had 0 fame on my second account =/ ) but he never asked to see the emo's , we started, beat the ghosts ( 8 moral)
and we made it all the way to the hall, where we eventuelly got beaten, now on playing the second round and winning 2 (we won a total of 6 matches) matches i got my R1, well no1 atked me, no1 said anything bad... infact: they congratulated me saying that im played fantastic inspite of the fact that i wasnt a R3 mesmer :)

Moral of this story: ehh hm =/ ... dont judge some1 based on his or her rank, rank is unimportant, the rank system should remain the same.

yea rank and fame are account-wide, so its same for every player in ur account.

i have played in many r3+ groups and find that not all of them are arrogant jerks u who call every1 with less rank than them noobs. i can see the sensible reason to use rank, cause theres no other way to tell if ur playing with a person who just started and doesnt know what their doin or with an experienced player who can help ur build.
i personally i dont play with PUGs anymore cause there are too many ppl with ranks that are asses. i dont mind rank but i dont love it either...

well i ask of you then, if thats your reasoning on liking rank, how did you start? did you start at rank 3? how would you have liked it when you started out, and people didnt want you because you werent rank 3? that idea is total bs, because EVERYONE has to start SOMEHWERE. just because you can use IWAY does NOT make you a good player. I suggest giving EVERYONE a chance...because one day, when that person is a rank 12 while you are still a rank 3, he will own the crap out of you in the arena...and he will be the one calling you a noob then.

I have had a couple of bad experiences with people in missions talking down to everyone because "I am Rank X". My personal experience was with an extreme [insert creative word here] Ranger who knows better than everyone else how to play because "I'm Rank 5". I was monking at THK to help a friend. If not for my friend I would have quit. I ended up putting him on ignore half way through the mission. Since that time if I ever hear someone say anything about their rank I automatically leave the group without hesitation. I know thats not fair to the rest of the group but I simply cant deal with it. No one cares what your Rank is, it doesnt make you a better player.

Nah. They should just say fame is easy to farm. Even peanuts can farm fame, y'know. Some moron called me a n00b (because he was lvl 15 with like ... 1 fame) and I have 0 (since I'll NEVER farm the stuff, not even dead) and told me not to screw up HIS PvP. Of course, we lost because of him (he was the allmighty W/Monkey) and I was faced with him in PvP. I showed him what l33t was a couple of times. Long live the supremacy of pie. ;)

Oh and, for the folks out there who think fame/rank are awesome, you're just as good as the farmer next door. :)

now... i hear most of u guys talking about not wanting rank or that Anet should remove it.
but have u viewed this situation from a persons perspective who has spent lots of time to reach his or her current rank?

u got 2 groups now:

GRoup 1: a group of players that dont want rank anymore and votes for having it removed.

Group 2: a group of players have spent most of their time on gw obtaining their current rank.

what do u expect anet to do?

view this situation from all 3 perspectives (anets, the votes for yes remove it and the votes for no keep it)

I'm not really against fame and rank. I think it's a great thing when your comparing yourself against your friends (me and friends have a weird thing about fame going ><:.) and stuff like that, but people are taking it too seriously in the arena nowadays. Like was said earlier, you get the noob players with rank 3+ tossing everyone out that is not equal to them. Rank and fame do not really show your playing skills. You could be a really amazing player who always happens to get horrible teams and bad luck or the horribly stupid person who is stuck with an amazing team who cannot kick him when they reach HoH and more. It only takes one time to get lucky and suddenly you're wanted. Guess we just have to get people to put it into context. It's not really a huge deal.

nah i dont think they should get rid of fame or the fame emote thinking this through it would be unfair on all those people who went to all the trouble to get it. still a shame that those with fame seem to controll who gets picked for things bit like fancy armor. its the non liniarity of the game that makes it fun.

I don't think rank would be such a bad idea if people understood that everyone has to start out at zero. Do people start playing Guild Wars at 5 rank? I think not. But how is one to build rank if no one accepts them so they can build it? They can't.

Rank doesn't neccarily determine how much experience a player has in all of Guild Wars. Maybe that person prefers PvE and is just trying to play PvP for a change.

And for those who demean and poke fun at people: I think you are the true "n00bs" in our game by making a game made for entertainment a place to insult people.

Slightly off topic but does deal with rank and fame.

1) Are there emotes associated with rank? In reading the dialog from Gaile Gray, she made reference to a Rank12 emote, or something like that. Do you get special emotes as rank increases?

2) Aside from making a PvP character, how can someone get rank and fame? Just go to Tombs and team up with people?

Side note, I can see how in some cases, a person may have died many times, but their teammates win the battles. Thus, this one player who incessively dies all the time would reap the benefits of their team members abilities, would they not?

I feel for you and others when people have a go about not having rank or fame. I only have 1 fame myself, but then again, I have only been to the Tombs 3-4 times lol.

Anyhow, I never really went there, and haven't been for a while because my build was mainly around Curses (Necro) which people didn't seem to appreciate much (different story now due to the awareness of SS, which I have used for ages).

But I don't like it when people don't accept people into groups due to low rank etc. How are people meant to accumulate fame and rank in the first place when they don't get accepted?

But still, I think the fame/rank system shouldn't be altered, because even if it does in some way, I feel the same old story will occur again.
