LOL Ranger with interuption vs a healing monk >_O ...
anyway... any warrior care to take on my mesmer in a 1 vs 1 match? ;D hehe
1 vs 1 arena is one of THE most stupid idea i have ever heard... seriously, GW is a team based game ffs...
-Geomancer with Obsidian flesh?
how many spellcasters could last against that? ... an IW (illusionary warrior)? yeah but what are the odds, must be coincidence to have ur opponent as an IW.

i would prob have to choose necro or ranger. I think rangers and necros make the best combos with their secondarys.

This is where I'm going to have to disagree with all of you and say Necro/Mesmer. *raspberry* :p
But for me, not going to say 'best,' but I always play as a Warrior. Well, more like usually. But anyways. I just find it challenging to try and make a build that can adapt to each situation, thinking about and varying between each 2nd profession. Possibly even just pure warrior skills.
Seriously, there'd be so many Necro/Mesmers. o.o
Either that, or just IW Mesmers. Illusionary Weapon for those who don't know yet.

Smiting monk with multiple spellbreakers could stand up against a lot. Balth's aura and other smite skills take care of the warriors, spellbreaker for those pesky spellcasters. Rangers would be the toughest to deal with using this build though, interrupts and poison. I think trappers would be popular as well.

Not sure if I like the idea of a 1 vs 1 arena. The outcomes would be pretty random. Half the time you'd probably end up against a build that you would pwn (or vice versa) simply by virtue of the builds' strengths/weaknesses. 8 skills are just not enough to make a universally rounded build. I suppose it would be educational to see what combinations of skills just killed your build, but I can't see handing out experience and faction for something so random.
The idea of 1 vs 1 grudge matches would be cool if they were just for fun. I mean, if you could be like,
SOME GUY: stfu, noob. you stink.
YOU: (snooty voice) sir, you forget yourself. i challenge you do a duel.
(takes off glove and neatly slaps SOME GUY across each cheek with it)
That would be fun. It would also be cool if everyone in the vacinity (or on each person's friend list) could be alerted to the duel and be able to observe it. That situation would be all about having hecklers on both sides. =P

This is why im actually against the whole "1vs1" thing. Its not about your skill. About about your skillz.
Someone could play healer and thus, your in a stale mate until the monk loses all his energy :|

1 vs 1 would be totally based on luck. Because every profesion is capable of 'beating' all the others. It would just depend on the skills you had, and the skills your opponent had. But i do hope they make a 1 vs 1 arena.

Yes, this game is balanced to 1v1, it's balanced so you can make a team of 8 people that feed off each others strengths, and cover up weaknesses. It would also alienate skills that are based on teamwork, right now, every skill can be used in pvp.

Well, of course randomness does play a big role. But even a bigger role, is how you adapt to it. :)
This is why I said earlier that a Necro/Mesmer would be top of the list of people coming in to the one on one arena. The constant 10 health degeneration, the blood sucking, the hexes, etc. A spellbreaker might only slow a Necro/Mesmer down. Warriors will just pee in their pants! Rangers will find themselves alone because their pet ran away in fear! oh I'm just kidding. Of course there are ways to stop a Nec/Mes. But it's just so damn annoying! :D

I dont think its 1 vs 1 random i think you will be able to challenge someone maybe in a place or a whisper type.
