Ok, so they say they're ganna have FPS action in it. Hmmm.. I played the demo for SWG and thought it SUCKED - and it had FPS in it!
How's this going to be different? I'm a big COH/COV guy, but I love Sci-Fi too, so I'm very interested in this. How does personal accuracy/dexterity/agility etc play a role in this game if it's based off of FPS? I don't get it. Is it a crappy FPS with a little RPGing involved? That's what SWG has turned into, and it SUCKS!
This is the most important thing in determining wether I get this game or not, if anyone know, please let me know.
Oh, and anyone know the release date on this game? Thanks!

Its not your own accuracy with a mouse/keyboard per se. Once you have fired the normal MMO hidden stat roles come in, I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I know that stats do come into, more than your ability to "aim".

Esprit - level 50 Empathy/Energy Defender (*glee*)
Transverse - level 36 Rad/Rad Defender
Crescent Kick - level 45 MA/SR Scrapper
Mental Block - level 35 Kin/Psy Defender

Hmmmmm.... I hope that it comes into play somehow. Like maybe, let's say, you shoot at the baddies head - and then the numbers come in to play as to whether or not you hit him. And if you did hit him, because it was in the head, it does additional damage.
THAT would be cool, a perfect balance in my opinion. Wow, I'm so smart, these guys should hire me. lol....
Know anything about recharge rates? I guess that would just be different from weapon to weapon. I am looking forward to LOOT. That's one thing I really really wish CoH/CoV had...

It hits EU on october 30th (although thats probably subject to change), and I don't know if its the same for the US. Im afraid I don't know anything else about stats though, not a lot has been released thus far.

I hope arrows dont go against the laws of physics in this game... In D2 if i moved out of the way of the arrow.. it didnt take a 90 degree turn in mid flight to rail me in the back. Unless the zon was using guided arrow, but thats a skill not a magic trick.

As far as I understand the mouse is used for aiming like most FPS, as far as critical hits or headshots doing more damage has yet to be seen. But that would be nice to be able to unleash more damage for aiming higher than instead of the midsection. But the game isnt the view of FPS, its more of 3P-FPS....if that is a technical term.
Recharge rates I havent heard of, or seen any. I think pretty much recharge rate comes down to reload time of the weapon.
The game is still down the road but at least it is in the beta phase, invitations for closed beta are said to be coming out shortly to the public so check that email...or apply if you havent already. I think this may be one of those games that will catch a niche of the public. There arent too many Sci-Fi games (compared to fantasy/medieval themed)...add in the FPS feel of the game. If I had to guess a possible Live time frame for TR, I would say Dec 07...that is early though...it will most likely occur more spring of 08.

k i applied for the open beta earlier today and then went to the site.
The following is my personal interpretation of the game with the information available at the time of the creation of the following statement:
To answer the original question of this post...as far as i can tell its an shooter/rpg but the rpg stats affefct the size of the cursor or any deviance from the cursor that the bullets actual flight path will take. So A sniper will have a smaller reticule then a machine gunner etc like in most FPS. Also it could be that a high level sniper's bullet will go exactly where the cursor points while a low level will be a little off. Similar to shooting in real life where an exper can make a bullet go exactly where he wants it while a novice will maybe hit the edge of the target or maybe not. Also maybe reload speed/run speed/firing rate/damage(could be caused by bullet type?) will be other stats that vary from class to class as well as the obvious health and armor etc. THe site also mentions something about useing the faberic of the universe to give allys an advantage. I'm not sure what that means but I'm guesing that it is either healer, buffer, or nuker or something along those lines from a clasic MMORPG.

Neways...Grifter a 3P-FPS would be a 3rd person shooter or 3PS/TPS such as Splinter Cell, metal gear solid or thief deadly shadows. |
Welcome to the site Widget, havent seen you post here or anywhere else so I well welcome you. And if your a previous and long standing amper my apologies.
As for knowing what 3rd Person/FPS is...I know what that would refer to and examples, and how it applies to the game I think I have a pretty good idea. Also I like to warn people be wary of trying to interepet what they post on main sites...or any sites until you see it for yourself. Alot of times with games that are in beta info that is posted on the site becomes old because of constant changes made.
You should of seen the 1st City of Heroes official site, trailers, and info. Wow....by the time the game hit Live it was nothing like that. Sometimes they forget to update some material.

Well, I dont know if it has been stated yet, but after talking to Fearless 'Community Rep' Leader, Cuppajo, she says the game is slated for October release. At least that is the word from Sunday at the Con.
