confusion

Hi all,

Bought CoV yesterday, never played CoH. EQ and WoW player background.

I have some major game confusion here - there seems to be a real lack of game content from a quest perspective, am I missing something here or what ? I have a level 7 stalker and i only ever have one quest, and can only get one quest at a time. No one seems to offer anything more, I can't interact with anyone or anything other than going through doors and attacking mobs.... whats the score here ? Am i missing the point of the game ? I know there's the pvp and the base raiding, but once you get to 40 through a seemingly limited set of choices, what is there to do ?

Help please guys, where am I going wrong ? Game guide in the box is a good coffee mat, but thats about it !

First off, welcome!

If you're level 7, you're probably still in Mercy Island, right? If that's the case, yes, you'll probably only have one mission at a time.

Once you get to the next zone, Port Oakes, you'll meet your Broker. From there you can grab missions from the paper, again one at a time, but once you've done three and pulled a gig at a bank or speak-easy, you'll be introduced to some real contacts.

From then on you can run both paper missions and contact missions at the same time. Pull three more paper missions and another major gig and you'll be introduced to another Contact. Eventually you'll have more missions than you can shake a very large stick at. The best part is that Contact missions are usually Story Arcs and come with some really cool rewards.

Just stick at it dude, and in the meantime look around the site, too much info here to absorb at once!

Yeah, that's one problem I often had with CoH and CoV. As a player who tends to make a LOT of alts, there's not a whole lot of "paths" to take before you hit level 10. With the next update, there will be a second contact (aside from Kalinda) that will offer some different missions at level 2, so that will make some variety, but it would be pretty cool if you had a big choice of contacts at the lowers levels.

I guess it does make it easier for new players if you just have the Breakout -> Kalinda -> Mongoose chain, but it gets dull.

As it was mentioned, once you start getting your Port Oakes contacts, there is PLENTY of content to keep you busy. Just don't get too addicted to Newspaper missions or else you'll outlevel some really cool story arc content. I've done that with Ruby quite a bit because I'm rushing to 40 with her. So I've been "newspaper grinding".

Thanks for the help guys, to be honest I was expecting to get flamed with the cries of "NOOB"...such is the way of rpg forums these days !

I'll keep plugging away for the broker and go from there.

At level 7 you can already go to Port Oakes. And start working with the broker and the newspaper. After I have dealt with Kalinda I usually skip Mongoose and head straight over. You just have to be a bit careful with running around because most villains on the street can kill you in one or two shots.

Welcome to the site Kerbis.

Also, due to our members being so cool, rarely will you be made fun of for ANY of the questions you ask. The members and staff are great at answering your questions, and also the site has a No Flaming, No Griefing rule. Due to one of us staffers being on almost all the time, its easy to keep track of stuff like that. Not that we really need to because that stuff happens pretty rarely before hand. Also, take a look around the site, especially at the Guides and Tips sections. Lots of handy information there.

Supporting what the Govt just said, we're totally "anti-flame" here. The only time you might see something that looks like a flame coming out of anyone here is if we're goofing on another user in a friendly manner, and then it's never anything rude or improper. :)

We're all friendly, helpful, fun, evil villains. ;)

I hear ya.. I am an avid EQ player and this game was somewhat confusing at first.. simply this game is nothing like EQ I havnt been to the end game yet but I understand there really isnt much for end game content like EQ..

but if you stick with it until you hit your 20's then the game opens up just like EQ when you hit 46..

by then you will have a good number of powers and have a direction you want to take your character..

hopefully it doesnt take you 5-6 class combinations for you to find your match hehe.. I swear that happens to me all the time..

oh and the biggest confusion was..
Deffense is your dodging ability..
Ressistance is your ability to mitigate incoming damage..
getting those 2 straight hehe.

I thought it was a bit slow as well, then realized it gave me a chance to test my abilities against several different types of enemies, and get no debt doing it.

It also let me test different builds until I found what I was most comfortable with, if you don't like your toon at the low levels then you can easily make a new one, and you havn't spent much time figuring it out either.

As to the word "NOOB or n00b" or however you want to say it it is used to often and for the wrong reasons, but I have yet to see it being used here for any negative purpose, the people here are very nice, and those who aren't aren't here long...

Yeah, my "n00b" usage is usually only limited to myself.

Things like, "I feel like such a n00b, I should have known that..."

And so forth...also know that the moderators/staff are extremely active on this site. If someone steps out of like, we're quickly on it to smack them back into place. ;)

...I dunno guys, i'm trying my best to get my head round the game design - its almost as though the developers intended all the game features and controls to be a trade secret !

I hit level 7, I found the broker and selected a mission - now i'm stuck with a mission that has level 10 mobs which happily hand my arse to me and send me packing !

So.... 1) How do you abandon a quest
2) Is there really no other way to level but to grind trash mobs ( since all the quests seem to require a group )

I really do appreciate all your help, but it has to be said, it has some work cut out if its going to make me subscribe after the 30 day trial...

Um. You shouldn't have level 10 mobs in your mission. Did you raise your difficulty up? If so, go see a Fortunata Fateweaver and drop it down to Villainous until you're more comfortable with everything.

At the moment there is no way to abandon a mission, however if you have trouble with one, feel free to ask someone on the Gameamp.com global channel to help you out. If we're on the same server as you most of the folks here would be more than willing to show you around.

Triumph is kind of the unofficial home to the Gameamp staffers, so if you're on there, I know I would have no problem helping you out. (The official Gameamp villain supergroup is on Triumph, the Inmates of the Gameamp Asylum, if you're there, we'll be happy to give you an invite as well)

Oh, also, most of the missions in the game are totally solo-able. The only reason they wouldn't be is because you've set the difficulty too high. Bring it down to a more managable level. The higher difficulty levels are intended for teams or higher level characters, usually. Sometimes more experienced players in the game will play at higher difficulty levels while still at lower combat levels, but I've never recommended it. The low levels go fairly quickly anyway.

Thats the kinda thing you get from the CoV amper staff - more help than you could help for, plus the players themselves who make this one butt-kicking community.
