Retire?

Is there really and end to CoH.....I had noticed someone's toon said he was retired because of stupid game developers.....do you really have to retire at some point?
Or is there a final mission?

You don't have to 'retire' but once you reach Level 50 you cannot gain anymore levels...you can still do Archvillain missions and Hamidon Raids and whatnot but you simply do not gain experience, only Prestige, Influence, and Debt...

Now I have heard rumor that when they raise the villians to 50 that the heroes may go to 60...dont know how true it is though but it is something to be prepared to think about...

I know you can still do missions....but just checkin' to see if there was a last mission and why some have retired in their search comment box

Where are they going to get the new powers for 50-60? and isn't the point of debt to slow xp? If you don't level anymore what is the point of debt?

I semi-retired my level 50 only because since she hit 50 everyone else I was playing with hit about the same time. New Alts were made and the climb started again. hahaha She does come out and play from time to time to lend a helping hand with AVs.

As to the new levels, Statesman has said there would be no more levels in CoH, but, ya never know what will happen in the future...it does seem strange that you still get debt at level 50 and no more xp, but, it could be an open template in the programming to eventually allow additional levels to be added, which means any debt your level 50 has would transfer over.

I think a lot of the reasoning the Devs could obtain for adding more levels is that once fifty is hit you feel as though there is no where to go with your character. Sure you can do the same AV's over and over, and hamidon raids until you turn blue in the face...but really what are you gaining (besides influ and prestige)? Once fifty is obtained the character basically becomes a bank for lower alts and for the supergroup.

If they added more levels then they could add more mish's and more epic archetypes... (or maybe just more powersets for the ones that they have...I dislike not really being able to choose a different powerset for the khelds...just me I suppose)

Fifty on 12-10-2005 at 12:35am after 400hrs of hard labor Wanna throw a special shout out to Illusion Mastor, CBail, Mudpuppy, Jupiter Sweets, Dark Hollow, Lethal Fury, Pan, Majin Tank, Lotus of Death, and all the others i know I am forgetting for their help. And also to all the gameampers here at gameamp whom without I would never have made it.

Badges brotha, badges. When the epic badges were introduced in issue 5, my 50 blaster got 2 of the epic debt badges right away, if I was no longer able to get debt I would not have the third one. And I don't think the level cap for heroes will be raised anytime soon. Villains are already up in arms about the advantages of heroes in PvP, with 5 more inspiration slots, more 6 slotted powers and various other things. Once the villains have had enough time to get to 50, then we might see a level cap increase(on both sides of the house).

The retired button is for those characters you do not play any more. When some people hit lvl 50 they want to play other characters so they "retire" their 50.

I retired 3 of Diamonds at level 8 last month. She existed only to be a part of her SG. The leader kicked her for not leveling fast enough; she said it showed a lack of dedication, even though my toon had the highest prestige in the entire SG! After that, I just don't want to play her anymore, so she's retired.

The point is, people have many reasons to retire a toon, but it's usually a matter of choice.

I have a retired toon in my sig, simply because he is level 50 and there is nothing for him to do anymore. If you had a lower-level toon that you didn't want to play anymore, you would likely delete him rather than list him as "retired". But since you need at least 1 level 50 to unlock the Kheldian AT's, you never want to delete your 50. So I just have him listed as 'retired'.

You have a good point there. 3 almost did get deleted. On the other hand, I have 4 new slots on that server to fill (thanks to CoV) and don't need the room just yet. For the time being, she hangs around as a "retired" hero. Who knows? If a team her level really needs a healer on Champion some day, she just might come out of retirement.

Retire? Nice concept. CoH does lack end game for its higher levels. If you have played any other MMO's you find there is tons of end game for higher levels. WoW for instance you can always improve your gear, PvP, and other avenues such. I have been level 60 on WoW for sometime and I play that character more than my 7 other alts.

But in CoH, well you can only do so many Hamidon raids before you are either tired of looking at jello or frustrated by the other players constant bickering. The limited PvP I did didnt really seem like much becauze the only PvP I got into I was downsized to a 30 or something. I lost all my powers, what fun was that. Im sure its not that bad but none the less CoH does need some end game improvement. CoH will always be a favorite but it doesnt take priority on my game schedule.

Now I must say it is still fun to go around and get missed badges or take AV's for a bit. Help you other SG's members whatnot but it does get monotous after a bit. Maybe that will change soon, hopefully.

I do agree with what Grift said about lack of end game content, it only took me 3 hami raids to say this is boring as hell. Now I just make alts and dust of War Shadow when the SG is having difficulties with archvillian fights.

If you look at my Sig line, although not listed, I have a lot of retired toons. Star Quest was the second toon I ever made shortly after my scrapper X L. He is lvl 36 and holding and yet I have other toons at higher levels. I made a lot of toons as concept creations and when I got tired of that concept, I made another for another reason. The only one I say that I would consider picking back up and running to 50 with is my emp/rad defender Boy Toy. He is lvl 43 and I still like his concept, but just wasn't a lot of heroes playing once CoV hit for him to team with...and now that I've become addicted to CoV (dinged my first 40 yeah!)his time is still limited. I will get him back now that I see my regular playing crowd coming back to CoH now. However, everyone else, is officially retired (until further notice).

I think this is an area where they really need to keep exploring the "sidekick an alt" idea. I think that would be pretty fun.

When I eventually get there, I might still play to see if I can exemplar to see some of the content I've missed, which would also involve badges I suppose (I have not run a TF with my main). Plus, it is sometimes nice just going around slashing things.

(of course, I've been playing an alt a lot for the past month, primarily bc of the rocket pack...now that the pack is gone for that toon, I still play him because I am having a ball with mind control)

No,l no final mission I'm aware of. No end. Besides you'll be making so may alts on so many servers when one hits 50 you'll move on to the next to get him there.

I "Retired" Nauro around level 43 when I defeated Countess Crey, that's what I wanted to do from the start...but my friends got me back into it and I dinged 50 :)

I really wish States would reconsider the level cap.

You can still take powers from Epic Power pools. your main pools and even other power pools for fun...I have so much influence on Neuro and apart from hosting costume contests and helping out my alts and other SG members, it goes to nothing.

Not saying I want to be level 90 or 100 or 5000 or something, but just another 10 levels or so.

If you don't want to give us levels, give us SOs...a SO at +3 for ever 'bar' of pink you gain would be fantastic!
