Why Super Groups can really suck

This is my first post. I figured I would post something that really got me down. I have found a Super Group on COV that I liked. I put all three of my toons into this group. Up until a couple of days ago it was all peaces and cream. We were helping people level, and putting a ton of infamy into the bank.

Then the other shoe fell. One of the “senior” members went nuts about how someone was treated in the Group and how they should not be sending tells, and people with rank that should not be there, yadda, yadda, yadda. During this time he is removing members left and right. He must have removed 30 + members that have been “inactive” to long.

I was part of a SG on COH and something similar happened. The main toon did not like anyone talking to his “girl” that also played on there. So he started booting people and acting like a total jerk. Where is all this coming from? It is a game and if I wanted Drama I would just go to work!

Has anyone else had this kind of meltdown, political nonsense in their group? I wanted to quit like a couple of my friends did (who I recruited into the group) but I had put a lot of Infamy and salvage into it.

Any help or advice would be great.

Michael

Welcome bud glad to have ya.

If you are on the Triumph server, you should join our Official VG. We have a fully functional base (I believe) and it is made up of people from the site.

RE: Why Super Groups can really suck

Unfortunately, Drama Happens.

I would say though, that the Inmates is run by some very mature individuals who would not ever do something like that. I'm not sure what server you're on, but feel free to drop on by and say Hi if you are a Triumpher. Govtmorgue is kinda the Official Supergroup Guy on the CoV side, but all of the CoV staffers in that group have invite rights.

RE: Why Super Groups can really suck

Hello,

Thank you for the reply. I have most of my toons on the Justice server. For COV I have the following

Mr. Thumper- level 28 Brute
Anti JC – Level 17 corruptor
DTS Kali –Level 9 stalker

I like to have some variety for if I get tired of one or the other. I have been very happy with my Brute, but I have found it a lot of fun to do the assassin strike with the stalker.

I leave myself in SG mode all the time and rank up some good infamy; I just wish it was with a group that was not so unstable.

Respectfully,
Michael

RE: Why Super Groups can really suck

Hi, welcome. A similar thing happened to me in FFXI a while back. Someone in my linkshell (SG equivilent) started to randomly kick "prominant" members of the LS. But we had no idea who it was. This continued for a few days until the leader got annoyed and disbanded the LS, gradually inviting everyone to a new one he'd made, but not giving anyone (bar himself) kicking capabilities.

Come to think of it i never found out who that was *ponders*

RE: Why Super Groups can really suck

Gosh, does sound like we have a candidate to take my 'rightful' place as the CoV drama queen! Here's a bit of advice from someone who has been kicked from teams and gaybashed in game - don't let them win. If there are other members of the SG who don't like it, take em, go out, make your own.

Unfortunately there are a few in the minority who just aren't people persons. They have this great ideal for a SG and when it don't go how they want it, pow! off goes the drama queen gene and they start throwing their weight around.

"It's my group, what I say goes."

Yeah. What-EVER! A super group is only a super group when it has members who are willing to co-operate and work together. Yes, someone has to found it but it's individuals who agree to work together that make it work. I'm in a very good SG on the european defiant server and with another toon I also founded the EU Inmates SG, kinda inactive as we dont have that many members from the EU joining the boards, despite me plugging the site every single chance I get.

If this 'Leader' is being an then see if anyone else feels the same and go make yourself a group, or better still, jump server and join the inmates!

Just because some trumped up little princess has let the almighty power of running a SG go to their head doesn't mean that you, as an individual, should have to stick around and take it.

What's the worst thing that could happen? You speak your mind and get booted.

Always fun to make your own group and poach members over who feel the same. Pretty soon it's just the leader, the sheep and their ego.

Mark

RE: Why Super Groups can really suck

Thank you for all the great responses.

Several of the higher ups in the old Group broke away to form their own. They were tired of all the “Drama” as well. So I did quit the old Group and went over. The problem I have now is how to add someone to the Global Ignore. LOL That same guy that went nuts started sending me tells saying stuff like “guess you could not handle it huh?” and “lol your sad little group”. What a goon!

I was mistaken on the earlier posts; it is Prestige for the SG. I guess that is what can really be a bummer. I joined with my Brute around level 10 and dumped a bunch of Salvage and Prestige into that base. I guess I will just write it off as a loss.

I think we can build this group up and hopefully be able to good community.

RE: Why Super Groups can really suck

That really sucks. Drama can really bring down something that is supposed to be fun for everyone. I would just try to get yourself into an older SG. While they are not immune to drama, it tends to be less of an issue. As the members are generally more responsible and mature.

I run on Infinity Server in the Order of the Illuminati. We are an older SG and our average age based on what I know of our members is in the upper 20's early 30's. Now we maintain the inactive boot policy you spoke of but the reality of it is we are here to build a dominate SG and having inactive players do not contribute to the cause.

If you start a toon on Infinity, send me a tell and I'll get you an invitation.

If he continues with the harassment in global tells, send a petition in to have him...taken care of.

I think you can add him to the global ignore by opening your friends tab and changing to the Global Ignore list, I believe there's an add there. If not there should be a slash command that will do it. Probably something like /gignore.

Sounds like he's griefing, you shouldn't have to put him on ignore, report him first, and if that doesn't work then put him on ignore, he's prolly doing it to others and until someone reports it he will continue.

RE: Why Super Groups can really suck

Wow sounds like the reply I made to the topic "People these days" It's hard to find people even in games, who don't allow their dramatic real life issues cross over into their video game personna. I'm pretty calm, cool, and collective...I just don't like when people are unjustly mistreated. Sorry to hear that happen to you, too bad you couldn't take your prestige with you! I've (since my sg incident) been able to recruit some really good people who are helpful to our members and try to incorporate the group in our desicions. Even though I'm now the overlord I still communicate with those under me, send e-mails congradulating those earning their capes, etc because I really think people should enjoy this great game. I'm seeing alot of people in the Virtue server making their own sg after some pretty crappy events...well that's people for you I guess. Those without control in their own lives can be most controlling in others :). But who the hell cares, people like that never learned to share in kindergarden and won't learn now so have fun and help your current sg surpass your previous one.

RE: Why Super Groups can really suck

I guess I just can’t win

Maybe it is one of those “It is not you, it is me” moments. Here is an update to this thread. We started with the core group and we started to grow. The “main” guys/gals put together a website and forum, all that good stuff.

The base got bigger and with some growing pains (see my salvage thread) better. Well then came the power trip. What is the saying, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The three main toons changed their title to “The Trinity”. Yeah I am not a religious person, but when they start referring to themselves with religious terms, I get nervous. I expressed this to them and that is when the other shoe dropped. One of the “Trinity” referred to me as his minion. So in a matter of days this group went from we are all equal, here to help, let’s have fun, to God’s and subjects. I also expressed dislike of that term (all on the forum) and was told that he was in charge and I am nothing but a minion.

Did I miss a meeting? Do I attract this king of behavior? Is there any SG on the Justice server that just has people that want to do Missions, Raid a base or two, and just have fun?

I quit the Group and they kicked out my other toons and banned me from the forum. I am all warm from the love.

Michael.

RE: Why Super Groups can really suck

Michael

Find the Inmates and join up with them. I am sure that there are players here on gameamp who have SGs who would snap up a player like you and not give you the grief you've been through.

My best advice is to rant and rave here all you like mate, don't let the idiots win. At the end of the day it's their loss and someday they will p155 off the wrong person and get themselves and their SG petitioned and kicked from the game.

It's sad that we're now in a gaming environment where what was once a nice friendly atmosphere has turned into back biting and power grabbing.

I hate to say it and no offense to any of the gameampers, but the majority of these dickheads seem to be 14 - 18 and have no real idea on how to deal with other people. It's the teen years that are the worst, although many, like silly ranger from guild wars and Xtreme-hippy here on the Coh/Cov boards are great to talk to and team with.

It's just a minority of dicks out there who think they are better than everyone else. Sooner or later they will get their payback so don't let it bother you. One Villain group raid against their base and no one wants to help the leaders and they will start to change their attitudes.

Better still, when the others start not liking being referred to as minions and quit, it'll just be the 3 of them and I'd like to see 3 people pay for a decent sized, SG base.

Ouch...that is terrible. Hope this has not soured your opinion of VG/SGs. If you are interested, I can mention your name to my VG leader and see for an invite (on Justice). We have a nice size group with plenty of members online. We have a base and are getting preped for base raids, etc.

My global is listed in my Sig. Send me an ingame tell. You can always look me up when i'm on (and I should be on tonight).

Firespray,

Thank you for your words as well. This site has been a big help to getting me through the game. To be honest COH was my first online game I played. I bought COV because I wanted to be able to go into the SG base and try out some Evil. I never thought I would have to deal with all this other stuff. Never saw that one coming!

That is very generous. I appreciate the offer. I should be on tonight and will try to look you up. I have the level 32 Brute is my main toon, but I have been working on my Dominator. He is level 11 right now and I would like to pump that prestige into a good group. I have a stalker that is level 16 but I struggle playing with him, and have not been active with him in a while.

Thank you again,

Well, if you get bored on Justice, the Inmates of the Gameamp Asylum are housed on Triumph.

Also, I've started a new Villain Group on Triumph called the Praetorians. It's themed. I was alter-versions of either the mainstream CoH heroes or of your own personal heroes. Example being that my main in the supergroup is Aurora Australis which is the Praetorian Earth version of Aurora Borealis. Right now the group only contains well...me. So it's not very exciting, however I'd really like to get more people involved. I'm level 20 at the moment.

Actually...

I could spare with you something similiar to this:
Ok, so someone wanted into my VG, The Shadow Legacy; they were acting normal and such, so I asked them the simple entry questions: Are you Active? Do you Role Play? I ask everyone the same questions, but it mattered not, because about a second later, she said yes to both. So I figured; "Hey, she must read fast, or she just says yes to get into things."

Well, a couple hours later; during a 'RP' session in the VG Base, she started abruptly spamming about the base, and how it needs a 'TV' and how it hurts that there isn't one. So, the level thirty members goes, "Forget this" and leaves.

Now I didn't want to lose two members over a sudden meltdown, but indeed, the nightmare started and would end just the same. I openly talked to the member that had left, and asked as to why a single member made him leave, and that I would kick the annoying spammer in turn that he rejoins. Yet, it seems, we get the best of ourselves and he said he "wasn't looking for a VG like that, and that I shouldn't have invited the member in the first place". I told him that I didn't know she would do this, and I asked her the two open questions. Yet, he never rejoined.

A single second, and I lost two members. Now i'm sure that's microscopic compared to your outcome, but it's lame none the less.

Glad I could be of assistance to you. I have had no problems with this group and they are pretty active so teaming should not be a problem here.

RE: Why Super Groups can really suck

QUOTE

I have yet to even play and already these Super Groups sound very unstable. What the majority of these people need is a good steaming helping of patience and maturity.

I was once told of an insect whose bite could kill with ease. Though it looked nothing more than a fly, a speck barely worthy of recognition. It is the things you dismiss which will hurt you the most, left to fester.

You know, I've found that human nature is a funny thing. You just live and let people be themselves. Now, I really don't pay attention to all of the politics within a group. I just play the game and if I can help out my VG/SG whenever possible. If i'm called upon, I'm there, if no one needs me I'm doing my own thing.

I have not had any issues with any group that i've been with in CoV or CoH. I've gotten along with all the members and have not been involved with the politics or craziness. However, the easy fix is to quit the SG/VG or if you want to stay, remove the Group chat option from showing up.

keep in mind this is a "rant" thread so it's not necessarily typical. There are several members in the Sg i'm in that have been together for over a year (including COH) we lost a couple members over "drama" and a lot more over people simply leaving the game and life in general but the group moves on.
