I find that I cannot run BF2 above 800x600 with any of the options set to above medeum. If I do it's very choppy.
My computer is a Dell 8300
1.5Gb ram (running dual channel)
9800 128mb ATI Radeon
3.0Ghz P4 HT
lots of free HD space 50+gb
In task manager there is only 41 iteams running
basically spybot S&D and my antiviruse program.
and also I went to the dell site and updated any drivers that hadn't already been updated.
Considering the fact that my computer runs GTA San Andreas just fine, this seems weird to me. It sucks having the nearest hill or building go completly white every time I or someone else fires.
P.S. also updated the BIOS(but that was 3 month ago)
any sugestions would be helpful.
thanks

yeah that IS freakin wierd man. 1.5 gigs of ram should clear up all of that. maybe your video card is bottlenecking your performance.

Not sure about this but - 1.5 gig in dual channel? have they started making 750 meg cards? Doesn't seem to make sense to me surely to run in dual channel modules have to be paired????

True, but my motherboard has four slots
2x 512mb
2X 256mb
so both pairs are running dual channel

Ah so simple! Yes I am. Stick a gig in each then, that might sort it! or better still buy a new video card.

so after reinstalling BF2, the game runs a lot better and looks better (non of those weird textureless walls I had), my guess is something messed up when I installed it the first time.
Anyways I thanks everyone for there suggestions

Also you can disable your anti-virus while you are playing. That will help quite a bit.

Disable the anti-virus and also tone down or turn off the lighting effects. The 9800 is not a high enough card to run at too high a resolution or with the lighting effects.
Try that and see what happens.

i'm running into some of the same frustrations. great game but it's tricky to config.
just bought asus P4P800 E deluxe. great mobo.. very overclockable. 1 gig of OCZ gold series running at supper low CAS latency. bought an ATI X1600 with 512mb of memory.. new 400+ watt power supply.
the one thing that is holding me back ( lol sounds dumb but i have to ditch my p4 2.4 ghz 400 mhz FSB lol ) i couldn't afford the chip @ the time but wanted to get it up and running. with the system runing at 400 mhz FSB the system isn't running @ full potential.
so basicaly i can't run bf2 with any AA or other textures above low setting.. ( which still looks pretty good ) but i simply can not wait to see how kickin that ati card is once i bump my sys up to 800 mhz fsb and overclock the shizat out of it.
would love to hear technical problems or issues you all are having. ( i'm an IT guy this is my stress relief, my computers run sweet luckily this is not true for everyone, or else i wouldn't have a job. )

I find unplugging the kettle really helps!
But the wiring in my house is apparently very odd and old.
