Weapon Prefixes

If you have never played the pen and paper version of D & D, you are probably not familiar with the various prefixes and suffixes that modify magic weapons.

This is by no means a comprehensive list and DDO could easily create new ones as the D20 system and Dungeons and Dragons in particular is a very flexible loot table favoring creativity.

OK first some basics.

Masterwork - items are not magical thy are superior quality items made by a master smith. They possess bonus's innate to them by their supperior craftsmanship.

Melee gain +1 to attack. Missle weapons also gain +1 to attack.

Axiomatic - These weapons are lawful aligned. Chaotic aligned characters should not wield them as thy will recieve a negative level ( Lose a level ) while doing so .
The weapon deals an extra 2d6 points of damage to Chaotic aligned creatures.

Anarchic - These weapons are Chatic aligned. Lawful aligned characters should not wield them as they will recieve a negative level (lose a level ) while doing so.
The weapon deals an extra 2d6 points of damage to Lawful aligned creatures.

Bane - These weapons are desinged to inflict more damage on a particular type or sub-type creature. They gain a cumulative bonus of +2 to hit and damage vs the designated subtype, as well as a bonus of 2d6 points of damage.

Flaming - + 1d6 fire damage

Flaming Burst - This weapon behaves as a normal flaming weapon confering a bonus of + 1d6 fire damage with each melee hit. However, on a successful critical hit the weapon delivers a burst of fire damage. The ammount of damage is based on the critical multiplier of the weapon.
x2 is a bonus of 1d10 , x3 is 2d10 and x4 is 3d10.

Frost - +1d6 cold damage

Icy Burst - Is the same as flaming burst confering a 1d10, 2d10 or 3d10 bonus of cold damage on a successful critical hit.

Ghost Touch - This weapon effectivly negates incorporeal creatures ability to avoid damage. ( very good vs wraiths , ghosts, and spectres. )

Holy / Unholy - This is a good/evil aligned weapon. It has a bonus of +2 to hit and damage in addition to its normal bonus's vs evil/good creatures. In addition it will deliver +2d6 points of damage to any evil/good creature it strikes. Evil/good aligned characters should not wield them as thy will confer a negative level to them as long as thy are wielded.

Keen - These weapons have double the normal threat range for their criticals. 20 becomes 19 - 20 , 19 - 20 becomes 17 - 20 etc..

Returning - This missle/thrown weapon will return to its owners hand after being discharged. Hence never running out of ammo. ( good space saver and back up missle )

Shock - + 1d6 lightning damage

Shocking burst - Same as Flaming and Icy burst with Lightning as its elemental damage.

Thundering - delivers 1d8 , 2d8 , or 3d8 points of sonic damage on a successful critical hit.

Vicious - Deals and extra 2d6 points of damage to an enemy while biting back at its wielder for 1d6. ( Good if you have damage reduction )

Slaying - These weapons will denote a creature type as well. The said creature type will have to make a fortitude saving throw DC 20 or die on a successful hit. ( I have found Dragon , Elf , and Gnoll slaying so far )

These are the modifiers I have seen in DDO so far. There are others im sure will be implemented. My wish list includes Vorpal, Wounding, Spell Storing.

Some Items have other qualities of note. An example would be Adamantine or Mithril. For weapons these materials confer the ability to bypass damage reduction for that material. ie. the WF adamantine body 2/adamantine.

I will go over the armor suffixes in a differnt post.

Hope this helps.

RE: Weapon Prefixes

There is also an Impact type which replicates Keen on blunt weapons, ie. it doubles the threat range.

Have fun, do it well, and share your knowledge.

I notice there is no link in the left hand menu to the guides.

How do we access them other than the link you just gave?

I've already given the "Powers that Be" a poke to get the guides link up. It was just a bit of an oversight it not being on the menu already.

But I have been told we may use that info for it's very own link so people can see it right away. Not sure quite yet, but we will use it.
