Stalkers, are they the Blasters of COV?

Hello,

I have been working on my stalker for a couple of weeks now. I have enjoyed most of the challenges that this Archetype presents. I have notice however that they seem to have the same Hit points, and more precisely, the quick loss of hit points, that the blasters have over on COH.

As part of my build I went for fitness, mainly for the Stamina but now I think the health will help quite a bit. I have learned the hard way to have plenty of Greens and the Caltrops are the best investment I have made so far.

Respectfully,
Michael

RE: Stalkers, are they the Blasters of COV?

I have a hit and run tactic I learnt from warshadow.

You stealth up to the boss and hit him and then if he drops or not, run like a screaming schoolgirl until you are safely hidden again.

I tend to be the signal for a team to start their attacks on groups as all hell breaks loose against my stalker when I strike.

Running away to preserve ones butt may not be heroic but hey, I'm a villain and I do my bit and let someone else be the squishy instead of me for a change. :o)

With my CoH blaster I earnt the wonderful nickname of 'debtspray' due to the huge amount of debt I have from being squishier than an over ripe pear.

As I learnt to accept - "You're a blaster. The floor is your friend. Love the floor, enjoy the time spent eating dirt, with or without salt. Squishy be thy name and Debt be they friend."

Welcome to the site btw, I'm the mad loud poofy UK staffer who speaks a bit of sense mixed with a lot of humour.

RE: Stalkers, are they the Blasters of COV?

I wouldn't exactly call them the Blasters of CoV. I believe Corruptors are to cover that region. I know as a Claw/Regen with the Fitness pool and Leadership pools I'm more than capable to tank if necessary. Of course, having a healer or plenty of Greens is always nice but it becomes almost necessary if I am tanking something. So, if I'd have to agree or disagree with the statement that "Does you tinkle that the Stalkers are the Blaster equivilent for CoV?" I would have to say "Cheese and tacos along with a disagree, Mr. Doobermoon.".

RE: Stalkers, are they the Blasters of COV?

Thank you. I have been reviewing the site for a while and thought I would speak up some.

Tanking is not something I would ever consider with a stalker. Unless, they are group of 8’s when say I am 20 or so, LOL.

I got a new power just last night, Placate. It seems to do its job when I go after a Lt. or Boss. I make the Assassin strike, then hit the Placate, strike again with a kick and run. I have some spikes set up to help slow them down. Last night I got to see a boss (he was purple to me) run through my spikes like they were daises. Since I was at the end of the Map, I promptly relived myself and ran out the door.

Well, the nice thing about a blaster, your not in your opponents face when you attack. I rarely ate dirt, cause I had a 80ft. head start on the "run like a girl" at the speed of super. Plus, I could fire as I ran, often finishing off a group. My nemesis was anything that could hold or immobilize.

I think stalkers are much trickier to run.

Istalon,

Good point. I have a level 21 Blaster on Justice and though I had plenty of face-plants, there was that buffer.

Holds! Man that is the truth, Heck getting hold with my stalker is like signing a death warrant. I have to have a couple of clear minds as well for that and PVP zones.

RE: Stalkers, are they the Blasters of COV?

i think he meant stalker=blaster in the sense of high bang squishy. but blasters were definitely easier with range... but hidden is really cool, and the hit and run works great. But after running me brute, i lose patience after plowing through crowds face to face, but its a feel thing. oscar cant run to the end and click the glowie and wipe the guards like a fun stalker can. I like the stalkerish new 1st mish from the new mercy contact... kill arachnos if you like but plant the bugs on the ships. very cool.

RE: Stalkers, are they the Blasters of COV?

Blaster = Stalker???? only in the idea of hitpoints. You have hit the nail on the head. That is why Stalkers should not attempt to mix it up for an extended period of time. If you have Ninjitsu as your secondary, you have it made. You can hide right in the middle of your mob and heal up for the next AS (i'd like to see a Blaster attempt that one...lol).

RE: Stalkers, are they the Blasters of COV?

I've been feeling this also, Im a EM/Regen stalker so I havent been eating dirt TOO much. I do still get my ass regularly handed to me. I think the sqishyness is too offset the fact that were hidden a good 80% of the time.

Workin on a sig for this name at the moment, until i finish it, enjoy this one:P

That is a good point. I have been running a brute for so long it does get frustrating with a stalker. Missions take so much longer when solo. I have my stalker at 15 now and maybe it is not a good fit. Unless I am with a team it can get real bad real quick.

I started my Stalker so I could have a better toon on PVP, but I took the Brute to Sirens call yesterday and did pretty well.

RE: Stalkers, are they the Blasters of COV?

I'd say the lower level stalkers have some time/solo issues due to extreme squishiness, however, get them in the 20's and up and watch them go.

Stalkers also depend greatly on the secondary sets as well. Ninjitsu, IMHO is the best for Stalkers and the Stalker concept. Caltrops, for the obvious, Ninja Senses, increased perception, Smoke Flash, AoE invis (yes, even in the middle of mobs), Blinding Powder, PBAoE invis (even has some cool graphics...makes the mobs blind and some of even choke allowing you to walk away quietly), Mez resis, and a version of MoG.

What more can you ask for in the line of stealth and stay hidden?

RE: Stalkers, are they the Blasters of COV?

I'm all about the stalker as a Silent Killing machine. I can solo pretty well with my New stalker, Terminal: lvl 15 En/Regen currently. I have all DO's in his Regen powers, I took fitness pool already, along with Flurry out of the Speed pool. With SS on, and Hidden, you are appx 150% invis...meaning only Sniper class AT's with super perception will be able to see you. This will be dire for PvP. With all the Regen powers you'll get with this secondary, you will pretty much be able to do a imitation of a Scrapper. I've socketed my attacks with Accuracy and Disorient Duration, so basically I hit pretty decent with the Energy Melee and they wobble around after getting hit for about 15seconds... See what happens here? You Disorient all around you and well, you can invis and AS just standing around. Currently, I can lead an AS on 4 whites, and come out just under half HP. The more I get regen wise, the better I believe it will be. If you don't happen to invis, the regen that this secondary creates once you have IH is almost Godlike. I'll probably be putting up some sorta guides in the future, I'm kinda just feeling out the secondaries right now. They basically determine the stalker.

And yes, the HP comparison to a blaster is perfect. I recommend taking the Teleport movement power. With my Ninja^2 stalker, it helped out more then I could say. Have your group stand appx 100yds away, lead stab w/ a buildup. Drop a LT, or halfway drop a boss, immeadiately TP into or behind your group, and its almost the ultimate pull. You have the group of enemies run straight into your crew.

RE: Stalkers, are they the Blasters of COV?

Aye, I'm into Stalkers too. They sure do a hell of a lot of damage, especially with Assassin's Strike (I'm lv33 now and I deal with a good strike about... *tries to remember*... 600 damage (Ninja Blade)) and a good Stalker with balanced powers can easily mop up a big mob (I personally prefer Regeneration for this, so that I can heal in case necessary :P ).

B2T: Yes they deal the great damage of the Blasters but they lack the range... too bad not all the Power Sets have at least 1 ranged attack.
