Factions Event Update

Here are the specifics on the update

Attention citizens.

The Tomb of the Primeval Kings has been overrun by the enemies of Balthazar. The Zaishen Order recognizes that many of you may wish to help conquer this foe. While this is admirable, only those truly devoted to the teachings of Balthazar should attempt to enter the Tombs.

Those wishing to become as great as we, the Zaishen, should take heart. Members of our order await your arrival at the Great Temple of Balthazar. We will train you in the ways of war, so you may continue the personal squabbles that seem to consume so much of your daily routine.

If you truly wish to better yourself, take the ship to the Great Temple, and hone your skills with the Zaishen.

May the blessings of Balthazar follow you on your journey.

Guild Wars: Factions
Free-For-All PvP Weekend

With this update, we roll out the first parts of Guild Wars: Factions, including the new login and character selection/creation screens, boat travel between continents, and a weekend sneak preview of the two new professions. (The weekend event lasts from Friday January 20 8:00 am GMT to Monday January 23 7:59 am GMT.)

All high-level PvP has been moved to the Battle Isles, which can be reached using the ship off the coast of Lion's Arch. On the Battle Isles, you'll find a new explorable area with Training Arenas, NPCs who can help you test all aspects of your character's build, updates to existing PvP Arenas, and all-new Zaishen Challenges, where you and your friends can practice against teams of computer AI opponents. All of this content is now organized into a natural progression, so that players can experience the basics of PvP before moving on to advanced challenges.

New computer AI challenges:

* Training Arenas: a series of four maps designed to teach the basics of PvP and Arena Combat. Beat all four maps to unlock the Zaishen Challenge on your account.

* Zaishen Challenge: an Arena where you can play the computer AI team of your choice on the map of your choice. Beat five different computer AI teams to unlock the Zaishen Elite Challenge.

* Zaishen Elite Challenge: the ultimate AI challenge. See how far you can get in a series of random Arena matches against increasingly difficult AI teams.

New unlocking of existing PvP types:

* Win five-in-a-row in the Random Arenas to unlock the Team Arenas on your account. (Existing accounts have the Team Arenas unlocked already.)

* Win five total games in the Team Arenas to unlock the Tournament (Heroes' Ascent) on your account. (Existing accounts have the Tournament unlocked already.)

Changes to Guild Combat mechanics:

* Five minutes after Victory or Death starts, both teams' Guild Lords will now rush out of their base to engage in combat.

* In the Burning Isle guild hall, NPCs now take the high path to avoid lava when Victory or Death occurs, and Flame Cursed Sentinals no longer drop loot.

* The Guild Lord's Amulet of Protection now interacts correctly with Deep Wound. (See Fansite Friday #62 for more information about the Guild Lord's Amulet of Protection.)

Miscellaneous improvements:

* When a party leader uses Map Travel in a town or outpost, his entire party travels with him to the new map.

* During PvP matches, the Party window now displays your team color.

* Skill icons for Enchantment and Hex spells are now displayed with a small marker in their upper-right corner.

* Text descriptions and icons of various magic item upgrades have been improved.

* The location and visibility of hint popup windows can now be modified using the Customize Layout interface.

Miscellaneous fixes:

* Ghosts in The Underworld are no longer considered fleshy and will not leave exploitable corpses.

The most notable things I see are these:

well im gonna miss the event due to my broadband provider gettin some paperwork fucked up and turning off the wrong acount so my internet acount has been turned off and they say it takes 2 weeks to get back up

P.S usin PSP wireless to write this (takes ages to write) but free internet lol walkin around town shame i cant play GW on it.

Wow, +cred for PSP'n it. I have one, and personally, I hate the text entry on it. I wouldn't put more than about 2 words in that way, it's such a pain...

lol yea and thanx im sittin outside tesco and usin there network lol hmm i wonder if there is a way to play GW it would be cool as i know u can put windows on the PSP so wot about PC games and yea usually i wouldnt but since this is gameamp and ive got free internet connection im not bothered as it takes about 10 mins to write this

I wonder how much this new expansion pack is going to be? Prob 30$ I'm guessing like all the other expansions for any games.. lol.

And super you must be good using a psp if you can type more then 2words on it. Lol. * I sure couldn't, had a hard time doing that and playing ffxi a long time ago on ps2 and no keyboard ^.^;;*

nope finally found it, up to the zaishan elite, a trapper team owned all the different builds, even the other trapper team, u can get them just outside the great temple of balthazar

It seems the Campaign Henchmen have also gotten an "upgrade".
Lvl10 Alesia will now run into melee combat with Stefan and you (if you're a melee type) fire her staff at point blank range at the enemy two or three times, then run past the mob (ignoring possible nearby mobs on the other side) and commence healing from there, with intermittent bursts from her staff. For the six to twelve seconds or so she lasts against 1.5 Charr mobs that is. You can imagine how thrilled I was to discover this while doing Althea's Ashes with my Lvl-11 Smite-Monk...

Holy crap I would be mad.
If it was me I would ask why it would take 2 weeks and if they said it was because of being booked with having to take care of customers I would mention it was their mistake not yours and they should do some resceduling to fit you in and if that doesn't get you anywhere I would ask to talk to a supervisor and tell them the same thing.

They would be more apt to get your internet service up and going sooner if you worked over the internet and might lose business. I would ask them to pro rate you for the time your service is down.

Not true. It is not a stand alone game. You will be able to go back to the original content and play with people that do not have the expansion. You will be able to advace your current characters into the new content. I would expect it to be around $40. That is what the "Free" WOW expansion is going for. :)

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet or not, but you can now get to a new area of the Underworld from Tomb of Primeval Kings. New monsters (well, new to me if I'm wrong) somewhat challenging combat, and rumor has it they drop Ecto. (Haven't had one drop for me as of yet.)

Make sure you check this new area out. I'm going to be sad to see the price of Ecto drop because of this tho.

The publishing party ArenaNet, has stated that Guild Wars Factions will be a Standalone game. It's really hard to dispute this then. You do not have to posess a copy of Guild Wars in order to be able to play Guild Wars Factions. That is the very definition og a standalone game. In order to use your current Guild Wars characters in Guild Wars Factions, you do need both games. And if you have purchased Factions but would like to be able to play the Guild Wars Campaign, you'll likewise only be able to do so by purchasing both games.

i went to the new uw area. its pretty good, its hoh against uw monsters. we came out with an eternal shield, eternal bow, and I came out with a sapphire :D plus it was an 8 man group with 2 henchs.

Hey, I just checked at my local Game Stop, factions comes out April 28, and is $49.99. That really sucks because that is like buying a whole new game. Oh well, I'm sure it will be worth it. Otherwise Arenanet will have a crap load of angry fanboys that are going to goo ballistic. Can't wait for tomarrow.

Learn something new every day. :) So it will be both a stand alone and an expansion since you can take your exist. characters into the new content. That is what I love about ANet. They are very versatile.

why would thhey do such a thing as restarting the servers. probably they will leave the arenas in battle isles, but they will take out the stuff like assassin and ritualist.

I noticed something intresting, absorbtion runes are the only ones that do not say "do not stack". Does this mean that you can use multiple absorbtion runes on a toon and they will add?

That has been posted all over the place. It means nothing. They no as much about how much the game will cost and when it will be realeased as we do.
