One of the things that really drew me to this game was the single player mode they are having. I think it will be great to actually learn the game before I have to join a party. I also think it will really draw a newer fan base, because this is something we haven't seen in a MMO before.
What I was wondering is do you think there will be a lot of people who only play it in single person mode rather than joining the ranks of the multi-player world? Do you plan on getting in to the nitty gritty right at level 20 or are you planning on waiting a bit?

So..um..this AoC is an MMORPG (like GW, WoW, CoH, etc) with a SIngle Player mode..or a normal game that can be played in Multiplayer (kind of like Diablo 2) ??

Yep a full blown MMORPG. But the first 20 levels are single player. After that you can enter the world and join all the other players in big MMO style stuff.
The idea to let you muddle a bit on your own is a cool concept. But also a risky one. A lot of players might never leave it, and remain happy in their own little world. Which sort of defeats the purpose of an MMO.
It is also kind of strange to be paying an online fee if you basically play a single-player game with MSM/yahoo on the side. I think getting to level 20 will be pretty easy. Once you got your first barbarian through the ranks, the next ones will probably be not a too lengthy excersize.

Does anyone know how easy it will be to advance thru the first 20 levels?
I like the idea of getting to know a character type before you have to perform in a crowd. But if 20 levels take a long time, I am not sure how fun it will be after the 10 character (alt-aholic here).

I haven't seen anything on how difficult it will be, but i figure after you do it a few times, the levels will come pretty quickly.

From what I understand, you don't begin paying your monthly fee until you actually enter the MMO part of the game. You can just continue to play the single player mode for free if you want to, and never enter the MMO part.

wow...really? I hadn't heard that. That would be pretty cool...that would certainly make it better than most games for the whole 'trial' thing.

Also, once you have completed the single player mode with one toon, you don't have to do it again. You will have the option to play the single player mode again, or go straight to the multi-player at level 20.

Sweet indeed, welcome to the site. And the prospects of this game having a built in single player mode is very interesting but whats the point when you play online for the experience of interacting with others. Funny I say that when I solo about 75% of the content in MMOs.
But it sounds cool none the less.

Ah, welcome to the site as well, Grifmaster!!!
Well, from my understanding, the first 20 levels are the single-player mode, which some of the devs have estimated to take about 4-10 hours to complete, so you won't be alone for very long...of course, that will mean that getting help from friends may not be as easy. Hopefully they'll have a global chat system like CoX or something to that effect.
