Running Guild Wars On Laptop

(Not sure where to post)

I was wondering if guildwars will run on a laptop I am going to be purchasing. I tried to install it on my old gateway laptop with the intel extreme graphics chipset and it wouldn't run. Here are the specs on the new laptop:

AMD Sempron 3000 1.8GHz CPU w 128 L2 Cache
14.0 WXGA BrightView Widescreen
40 GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive
ATI Radeon Xpress 200M Chipset (RS480)

Thank's I appreciate your help........

suprisingly enough, although the graphics in gw are quite impressive, the video req are quite low. it's all about ram. i suggest at least 512mb. thats just me.

RE: Running Guild Wars On Laptop

My cousin runs GW off his lappy. Its not the best thing, but it works. He just has 256 ram and a regualar intel graphics set and he runs it just fine. It might not be as pretty as my machine, bit his gets the job done. So I'm sure you can run it no problems at all.

RE: Running Guild Wars On Laptop

Let me guess, you are getting one of these:
Compaq Presario v2555
If this is the case, well, I just bought one. It runs GW just fine, only thing is, ever so often there is a slight jump in the graphics, what most ppl would call lag. I believe it is from having shared video ram, as everthing else has to share the same memory pipe with the video.

Overall, for $600 I'm pretty happy with it (although it's far from what I wanted (don't have $4000 to spare atm :D)). As soon as I get some more cash, the first thing I'm gonna do is upgrade it to the full 1gb of memory.

RE: Running Guild Wars On Laptop

Let me put it this way. My desktop, I just upgraded the video card to a AGP GeForce 6200 256mb. The laptop, with 128mb shared video ram ATI Radeon Express 200m, runs just about as well as my desktop.

Crappy chipset? Maybe. The fact is, it runs GW ok for me.

RE: Running Guild Wars On Laptop

I am running mine on a Sony Vaio laptop and GW would freeze every 10 minutes. I blew it away and did a clean install without all the manufacturer crap, just a clean install of XP Pro and works great.

i would suggest utilizing a keyboard and mouse, vs the lappy itself, when i travel, i grab my lappy, kb and mousy, set it up in the hotel, and i am good to go :)

RE: Running Guild Wars On Laptop

Well, I'm not sure how that Radeon Xpress compares to my video card so I can't really tell, but for me it works smooth with it's resolution and all detail levels and anti-aliasing maxed out using a 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon X700.
I'm guessing you might have to put down the details or anti-aliasing down a little to keep it running smooth but I think it should work.

RE: Running Guild Wars On Laptop

Well about 2 months ago i bought a HP ZD8000 which is a awesome laptop.
Intel Pentium 4 650 w/HT Technology 3.4 GHZ
17" WSXGA+ Bright view Wide screen
2 GB RAM
256 MB ATI Radeon x600 Graphics card

and it runs GW just fine, but what can i say it is more powerful that most ppls desktops. I know, i know overkill??
but i like things that go VROOM and SWOOSH. What can i say i am a Man.

I am bitter and twisted. Expect from me acerbic humour and sharp commentary. While I may seem nasty at first, I'm actually quite good company if I like you, so long as you don't mind a bit of cutting to the chase. What Flavour Are You?

WOAH AWESOME, is it this one? http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c331/imm...eria/Laptop.png
Cuz im gettin it too ^_^\

Sry, i kinda helped steal the thread, but in any case, as every1 else is saying, GW is a very high graphic game but can run a very low end graphics card, 128 is the recommended minimum, and right now my desktop is running on a low end nvidia card, i get a lil lag but not much. With your new laptop tho it should be the same deal, youll run fine i would suspect, and maybe with a little lag every once and a while. I would recommend upgrading the RAM tho. RAM gives the processer and the vid chip/card more power kinda like giving a fire more wood to burn.
