We had a big discussion (i.e. mass genocide) in the IRC channel last night about what years produced "the oldies". What years do you think should be designated "the oldies" and what are some of your favorite oldie bands and songs?

If I had to pinpoint the end of "oldies", I'd nominate the "summer of love", 1967. There are always exceptions, of course.
As time passes by, oldies radio stations have to decide either to make adjustments to continue to serve a wide audience, playing songs that some would consider "classic rock", or to stick to their 50s-60s early rock and Motown playlist and relegate themselves to a smaller audience that keeps getting smaller thanks to the Grim Reaper. When you hear an oldies station play Buffalo Springfield and The Doors, you'll know they've resolved to make adjustments and move the boundary forward.
Meanwhile, a Led Zeppelin song is the centerpiece of Cadillac's TV advertising.
My favorite oldies musician? I'd have to say Roy Orbison. I don't consider anything from the psychedelic rock period forward to be oldies, so my true favorite, Pink Floyd, doesn't count.

24. So to me oldies include stuff during the era of swing and big band and black and white TV with pictures that were all blurry. There was a song i think it was....Raining Pennies from Heaven ...or something like that. That might just be the lyrics. Thats an oldie to me. So that era is what i considered oldies.

'Oldies' is such a generic term, better just to use more specific terms.
50's/early 60's
late 60's
70's
early 80's
late 80's/90's
