Yallander
The story the heroes don’t want you to know
My name is not important, only what I am writing is. I want only to expose the truth about the creation of the monstrosity known as the Yallander and let the world know that our “heroes” of Paragon City aren’t as heroic as we would like them to be.
Mark Yallander was once a med student at Paragon University, a promising student with a great love of human genetics and the mutations that caused people to become superhuman. In his papers he documented how he was able to find and isolate the mutant gene that granted controllers the power over their pets and others within his ordinary DNA. Dr Valizok (prior to his accident that left him a hideous monster) saw the potential and promise in Mark’s work and invited him to intern with him working on some of the most cutting edge research anyone had seen—the goal of overcoming death itself.
For any young med student this was the opportunity of a lifetime. He didn’t even hesitate to ask how the doctor planned on doing this—his first mistake. It turned out that Dr. Valizok was planning on utilizing Mark’s work in order to create a more intelligent immortal capable of influencing the minds of the others. If he had this capability it would enable him to convince the world of his greatness and aid him in his insane experiments. Mark (as well as the rest of the city) was still blind to the mad scientist’s plans.
After months of trial and error only ending with the creation of mindless undead creatures it happen, the Dr. himself snapped. His warped mind started seeing his “failures” as beautiful creations and the perfection of what humanity was meant to become. He only saw in human life a worm waiting to become one of his beautiful butterflies, and the heroes were like the monarch—the rarest and most beautiful of his specimens. Mark found out about these evil plots and quickly informed the Freedom Phalanx—his second mistake.
The heroes took action and raided the lab were they were greeted by the patchwork of a man become monster known as Dr. Valizok. “Look at me,” the Dr. said, “I have become the perfect form of our species. I am the line between life and death itself; no longer able to get sick, age, or die…I am our future!” Statesman took one look at the creature and recognized the abomination he had become; “Alright heroes let’s take him down, NOW!” “Wait Statesman, it’s a tra....,” replied Manticore, but it was too late, within an instant the heroes were surrounded by thousands of undead soldiers. “ATTACK MY MINIONS!” shouted the doctor. The fighting never seemed to stop and as soon as one zombie was taken down two more came up in its place. The heroes’ only choice was to retreat. There was no way they could overcome those odds so they made for the door clearing a path in the sea of minions and made it outside. The zombies just kept coming! An alert was put out and every super group available was called in to help the Phalanx fight off this new threat.
Mark was watching the news and felt he had to do something because he had an unwitting hand in their creation, so he raced to the war zone. The zombies weren’t only attacking the heroes, but anyone they saw. Civilians were being torn from their homes and butchered. In a moment of desperation he ran over to help a group of kids being mauled, “STOP IT, STOP IT NOW!” The zombie listened! Amazed by this the idea came to him to turn the zombies against themselves. He raced from horde to horde ordering them to fight one another. No one could tell what was happening, but Dr. Valizok knew that his young protégée was controlling them. News cameras, helicopters, and reporters continued rushing in to view the chaos. Not even the heroes knew what was going on. Suddenly the sides weren’t clear it was no longer zombie against hero, but zombie against zombie. Only Dr. Valizok and Mark really knew what was happening. The two meet in the middle of the same lab were everything began. “What promise you have my son—come and join me! Together we will make these pitiful dying creatures into the destined ones they were always meant to be. We will show them the way, you and I and lead them towards a new utopia.” “You’re insane!” proclaimed Mark, “I came here to stop you, how could you do this to those innocent people? We were trying to help them and instead you want to make them monsters. These creatures are all failures—you said it yourself! I refuse to be a part of this anymore, and what I started here, I will finish!”
The zombies roared as they began attacking one another, Mark would take over their minds one by one and dismiss the zombies under the mad scientist’s control. Soon only Dr. Valizok was left; realizing that Mark’s control over the horde was even greater than his he thought to himself “I have accomplished my goal and have created a perfect general for my army.”
Mark was filled with rage and hatred towards his mentor and without hesitation, ordered them to kill him. The horde piled high upon the monstrosity of a man and Dr. Valizok was being torn to pieces. “You are my greatest creation!” yelled Valizok over and over. Within a few minutes the cries stopped and Mark dismissed the zombies only to see that a sewage cover was open. “He escaped!” in terror Mark knew what this meant, the doctor would be back to wreck havoc on the city.
During this time the heroes had been tending to the injured civilians healing their wounds and helping them to find missing family members. The Statesman, Manticore, and Sister Psyche returned to the lab and noticed only Mark standing there, over the sewer. “He got away,” replied Mark in disappointment. Sister Psyche sensed that Mark had been controlling the zombies and furious by the havoc that was wrought spoke out in anger, “You…you were controlling them! This is all your fault! We trusted you and you set us up!” “NO…NO that’s not true, not entirely true. I…I was trying to help! I stopped Dr. Valizok.” Mark rebutted. “How could you?” said the Statesmen “You’re the real threat not that monster we saw. You must have been controlling him too!” “This is all just a misunderstanding, please let me explain…,” Mark saw that no one would listen and that Manticore was taking aim, he quickly summoned 3 zombies to keep the heroes busy while he jumped into the sewer to escape. The 3 heroes made short work of the zombies, but it gave Mark just enough time to get away.
Outside the reporters were trying to get the story straight; the Statesman came out of the lab and gave an address to the city spelling the beginning of the end for Mark Yallander, “We…we were setup!” The statement was confirmed and reports rained in on how people saw him controlling the zombies. Some people reported that he was trying to help, but most didn’t want to believe that. A warrant was put out for Mark’s arrest. Scarred by everything that was happening, Mark followed the sewers towards Independence Bay and stowed away on a ferry to the Rogue Isles. The only place he thought that no one would look for him. Word reached ears of Lord Recluse and based on the reports, he saw the makings of an overlord. “Anyone who could fool the entire hero community and almost single-handedly take down the entire hero population would be a valuable ally,” he thought.

Very nice...but you should really post this in the ARTICLES section. There are many fine origin stories there, and you'll get some fabulous credit for posting it there as well.
Keep up the good work!
