Version 1.4Beta and Bright Skins

Hey all,

Good job on UTComp. Has anything in 1.4 beta changed that would allows serverside settings for brightskins for different gameclasses? For example, when I run instagib on the server, I will allow brightskins. However, when peeps vote for sniper, it would be great if brightskins were automatically turned off.

Is there any way to set the gametype to which brightskins are allowed?

Not yet, but the gametype voting system for 1.4 isn't done yet. This could be added, altough I'm not sure if it's possible. It definitely cannot be added to the regular UT2004 voting, unless that has a way that I dont know of to change a serverside setting under utcompv14beta1.MutUTComp on its own.

Re: Version 1.4Beta and Bright Skins

If anyone were going to take a whack at this option, I would suggest making it a serverside setting. The reason is that brightskins can easily be argued as tipping the scales one way or the other by making it easier to see peeps, especially in sniper.

That's why sniper and zark lovers hate bright skins - you cannot camp with them. Instagib on the other hand, where you just strafe and bounce around, and need immediate accuracy, love them.

So, a clientside setting which would allow a person to enter a sniper game and see everyone in brightskins would not be fair.

I would recommend serverside. Thanks for all your hard work!

groovy, brightskins are already a serverside setting, as well as clientside. You are limited to the maximum the server allows....

The only thing yuou cant do right now is have it automatically change those settings in voting. This will be included however in 1.4 final.

Re: Version 1.4Beta and Bright Skins

Maybe I'm missunderstanding something but this should be doable if UTComp reads servertravel options. And I distinctly remember that this was promised for "the next UTComp" back in the 1.3b days. ;)

So adding "?EnableBrightSkinsMode=N" to your voteconfig (whether using UTComps or Epics would work...

Great! I'll be checking out beta2 as soon as possible.

Good job!

I'd like to see coaching added to the servertravel parameter list.

Yeah, I'm a voteconfig wh**e... ;)

NakedApe, there isn't an option for coaching -- nor do I see any reason for one. Coaching does not give you anything but a team overlay (if enabled) and FORCES you to a single team. It is a limiting, voluntary action that doesn't need to be regulated.

I see your point and I agree, I guess we should bitch at the leagues/ladders who insist on saying "Coaching off" in their rules to change it to "No coaching allowed".

Please note, however, this this will *NOT* work if utcomp is not already loaded. So, it will work better with UTComps voting than epics(since you could run into a situation where the effects wouldn't happen)

Heh heh...now you tell me...I already loaded the string remotely into my UT2Vote.ini.

Well, it didnt crash it.

I will check it later and probably just load the string when I load UTComp1.4.

Yes, I found out the hard way... My tests with ?bEnableDoubleDamage= didn't work at all with Epics mapvote. Even though UTComp was loaded both in the mode I switched from and the one I switched to.
