feeling lonely

This is a very broad subject but to put it short it means that do you feel that there isn't enough friendliness or whatever in either guildwars or another MMORPHS or something (I can never remember the acronym for games like guildwars, maybe its because I only have guildwars.)

EDIT: please dont kill me for posting this

You're right. Definately not enough friendlieness. Normally I would launch into this whole spiel about human nature, and how parents don't spend enough time with their kids anymore, but I'm just not in the mood. So, I'll spare ya. :)

if you want to see the most unfriendliest place in guild wars then go to abbadons mouth in the europan dist. Nobody ever talks exept to ask for monks an dthere are breaks of up to 15 minutes without any chating. Its scary and makes it very hard to get into a party.

Its mainly because everyone is too obsessed with their own personal gain..They forget that its just a game and that you dont have to have the best to be the best.. Take runners for example..And im talking about major runners(the droks runners) All they care about is getting their 2k per person, When they could be just running for tip and helping other players out!!

Is that a goodenough rant for you?? :P

Compared to alot of other online games I have played, Guild Wars has a very friendly community in my experience compared to other games I have been on. (The worst in my experience being Runescape and Counter Strike).

Sure, every game will have it's good and bad players, so if you have only experience the bad aspect of a community, I can see where you are coming from, and agree with Maglor how many play purely for their own gain, and not in a socially friendly manner, and how they forget it is a game.

RE: feeling lonely

Well it all depends on your definition of friendlyness. If by friendly you mean random chat about random things other than GW then no. Then again according to that definition gameamp could also be called unfriendly due to it's one and only topic. If by friendly you mean people talking about GW and responding and having debates once in a while, then yes GW could be called friendly unlike other games. If you combine the two then it could be said that GW is friendly when it comes to GW but not much exists outside the GW world in GW...if that makes sense to you..

RE: feeling lonely

I tried starting a "giving away free" thread where people could give away items instead of selling it. Needless to say only 3 people volounteered and those who did take items didn't actually bother to come pick them up. It's kind of a good idea but i know that even if we do give away the items, people will then just turn around and sell them and laugh about how stupid we are for giving them free gold.

Edit: I mean look at this website alone. People are asking for PC, selling, and auctioning. They aren't exactly giving and if the item is worthless to a player it is sold to a merchant. So no..your idea of friendlyness does not exist in GW.

RE: feeling lonely

I've noticed that when doing missions and quests that most of the time ppl just what to get the mission/quest over and done with. They don't want to be friends, they don't want to talk. In other mmorpgs I've partied with ppl who stand around for hours just talking. I would have a drozon or more ppl in my friends list but in GW I have maybe four and two are ppl I know in real life. I guess GW partly to blame for the fact that once you leave town it's just you and your group. You don't meet ppl while running from town to town. ;_;

Belive it or not some actual like this. :) Some times i get free runs just for being freindly and not getting mad when they dye 40 times. :) btw the only place i ever get run to is the forge. :) Figure it comes out to the same buy 3 full sets of armor up till i can get there or paying the 3 k to get a set right off. :)

Not all forge runners are bad. My very first REAL friend on GW was someone who charged me 2K for a run to forge. I was a good customer and he was a good runner. Later when I got my warrior maxed, I looked him up and asked if he could show me how its done. He did and we have been friends ever since.

Also I do Forge runs at least once a night, for free. I only charged for one forge run (I wanted shiverpeaks keys) so I was charging 3 keys a person, needless to say it was THAT particular run that I died like 3 times, so I told them it was free and wouldnt you know I made it as soon as it was free :)

Anyways, I try to help people out as much as I can becasue I have that same feeling of loneliness. Let me say that once I became established as a good and free forge runner, now the opposite is true, I cant get any time to myself :) A lot of those free runners have earned me some of the coolest people on my friends list.

Now free forge runs are few and far between, but I cant be the only one that does it.

His banning didn't fall under any of those things. Don't assume that becuase someone is banned that they scammed someone. In my opinion he made a mistake that cost him being banned. Its in another topic on the board somewhere.

But on to the topic of this topic....

There are freindly people out there, I feel I am one of them, along with the group I hang out with. You can catch me in random American Asc districts doing give aways(I make people work just a bit so people that are just gonna go and sell them dont grab em. You have to find me and I hide well.) and I also help out on quests and missions. I find that helping out with missions doesn't do as much as helping out with quests. Some of the early missions are easier then some of the quests you get.

Friendlyness is out there, you just have to keep your eyes open. And if you share your friendlyness, others will learn to show theirs.

RE: feeling lonely

i have a little rule, and it is called the player that knows the level, leads the level. Does that make sense? A lot of times it is hard to get people to even listen to you. they will go off and do as they please and get you all killed. I have been ripped off of money before also. i went to do an infusion run for IMoM and i foolishly paid some in advance. He left the group and i lost all that money. hypothetically it makes more sense for someone to steal real money then to get on a game to be a theif like that. The fact that we cant leave reality to play a game is just wrong. Some people can be jerks when they talk to you via pixel character. I heard some very disrespectful stuff, especially things regarding religious things like, "%#%@% jesus" immagine that connatation being reliterated to someone with high religious values (like myself). it is distasteful, utter disregard for ethics and standards. People dont think that exists in a game, and that is where the problem begins.

well, u probably shouldnt generalize all the Droks Runners, cause theres a lot of them and not all of them are like u say. i have gotten a run to Droks once (3rd char) and it was a run for tips during the Holidays. and the guy was just about the best runner i could find (yes better then "Pro Runners for 4k").

and for my bit in the topic, i would have to disagree. everyone in my guild is very friendly, and many i ppl i meet in GW are also friendly. my friends list is full of friendly ppl.

one of the reasons i play in american territory , is becose i start in american and got used to all the LFG spaming , and even random chat in the mix , if say something , normaly someone will replay even if its to make fun of it ... then i tried europen territory , it was so silent , it was scary. i had to go back to american.

but on topic , guildwars can be played without a guild , but with a guild is so much safe . with a guild you feel like you can always have a warm word if needed . guildless can be really desapointing sometimes. im glad i finaly found a mature friendly guild :)

RE: feeling lonely

I guess one takes the good with the bad. Overall, I think the general GW community is pretty friendly (kudos to A-Net for doing all they do to help keep it that way.) But I also think that often people become so mission/task focused that they forget to extend a hand of kindness, patience, tolerance, etc. There are going to be harsh and unfair times in a competitive productive atmosphere like GW, but the trick might be to not let those few negative encounters overshadow all the positive aspects of this awesome game.

It's a great policy to try to be a part of the solution in yourself rather than trying to "change the world." The other day during a mission I received a gold shield drop and the only warrior who stayed in our party asked for it. I gave it to him along with 100 gp just because. The player was ecstatic! That was a neat feeling for both of us. And just a courtesy "gg" at the end of a PvP match can make a difference in the GW community.

Then, if all else fails, one can come here. This has got to be one of the friendliest communities I have encountered. If you're "feeling lonely," then you made a smart move to post it here!

Hope you don't feel so lonely anymore with all of these posts. Best wishes.

Anathor

RE: feeling lonely

I think I am slightly curses when it comes to friends on GW, for everytime I have introduced a friend I know in person (I dont refer to it as real life, just doesnt make sense), they start playing, think it is brilliant, then just quit playing it (incidently, go back to Runescape ¬_¬).

In conjunction with this, when I make friends online in GW, they seem to stop playing also. A while back, I made a good friend on GW whilst helping in an earlier mission. We would then go through the game together with our characters that were at the same place. It was really fun.

I can see the idea about how whilst out in the area, it is only you and your party; although not a great way to meet people, I prefer it, as at least you can train without worrying if people will be hording the area. Imagine Griffon farming if everyone was allowed in the same area XD.

RE: feeling lonely

There is definately less friendly-ness when it comes to GAMES in general. Not just MMORPG !! Its jut more common in RPG because of the learning curves.. For starters, we live in a world of comepetition where every single average joe wants to be #1. More Experienced players tend to shy away from the fact that they were a NOOB at one point. So they belittle who isnt quite exp.

Ive been playin GW since the release and I do what i can to help anybody out in the game! The only thing I hate is being in groups when ppl are just being disrespectful. It really dont bother me because im a foul-mouth mutha and i just blast right back at em!

One thing getting on my nerves is these monks for hire!! I know monks are a rare species ( LOL ) and this is due to way too many monks being disrespected in parties. I had a monk long ago but i stopped because [1.] got impatient with the healer role [2.] bordome [3.] being disrespected by stupid warriors who leeroy jenkins into 10 Mursaats and expect to be healed. -- Excuse me 4 jumping subject!!

But Hey what can we do. Its only a game and it really should not be taking that seriously!
