Female Characters

I've created my first female character (i'm male if you're wondering) and I find this to be a very interesting playing experience so far. She's only level 6 atm but i've already recieved some very interesting conversations and team invites with flirtatious comments. Could it be that her name is "Woman Next Door"?

However, outside of that, I find that she is actually very fun to play. Although I've played many scrappers and my stalker, she seems to bring out a different element of the game for me.

Am i just imagining things or are female characters more fun/interesting to play?

RE: Female Characters

My two main characters in CoV are female. Mostly because of concept and because in comic books, I've always found female characters to be more interesting. Going back to the whole Phoenix Saga in the late 70s/early 80s in the X-Men. Then there was the Inferno arc where the major players were female (Illyana/Magik and Madelyn Pryor/Goblin Queen). The Baby Phoenix story, for lack of a better name, with Rachel Summers from the alternate future (Days of Future Past). For the most part I've always just considered female characters to have more depth with that set of writers. I think it's because I was a big X-Men fan during Chris Claremont's original run on the book and he tends to write female characters really well.

In my case, Ruby Widow, my highest level character in CoV, is based as a member of the Blood Widows who is operating on secret missions for Arachnos. She's a special operative under Ghost Widow's direct command.

Aurora Australis comes from an alternate universe (seen in CoH as the "Praetorian" story arc) and was stuck here. Her goal is to take down her duplicate in this world and earn a place under the rightful ruler of this world, Lord Recluse. If she can't get home, she might as well stick with the power center here. (I've started a supergroup with her called the "Praetorians", info is in the Triumph forum under the Triumph Supergroups thread)

RE: Female Characters

I have Aylissa, my emp defender and I get hit on all the time when I played her. I jokingly say to them, look, I'm a guy but this is a game and if you wanna hit on 'me' in character in a RP situation, fair enough.

The minute you tell them ur gay, Oh my word.... the comments stop and you're treated like a guy all over. MAybe thats just me being me and being honest.

Oh well, the funny things straight boys do and think are fun til a slice of reality slaps em in the face.

17 minutes til the patch is due to be done.

Anyone else notice that when patches are applied, forums get busier?

RE: Female Characters

can't tell about the patches, cause i'm always at work when they hit and can't load until afterwards (even more of my playing time lost...**sigh**)

I have some other toons on CoH, Boy Toy and Paragon's Playa for instance, and they seem to be a gay magnet. No disrespect intended, and I don't freak out at all, but I think it's just funny. Was on one team with my Boy Toy and a couple of the guys were gay and they each kept sending me tells hitting on me, and telling each other about it. Then they started arguing amongst themselves on who should end up with me. This was totally funny to me and they were some good guys when I told them (upfront) what my preference was, they kept their humors about them.

RE: Female Characters

Well in RL I am a guy but in the gaming community I am a girl..

Back in 99 When I started playin EQ I created a Female toon and I RPed her as a girl her whole career.. now Granted I do not cyber or talk dirty or any of that nature IMO thats goin a lil to far.. I finally told my guild about 5 months ago that Im a guy in RL.. I was thinking and dreading the worst ya know.. But they were very nice adn cool with it.. I even got some great compliments from the boys n girls alike on how well I RPed a female specially from the people I have known for 5+ years or so.

When I make a toon female or male I RP them and give them a personality and feelings which are diff from my own. each one is unique..

but I will say this your allowed alot more freedom and flexibilty with a female character from your teamates and strangers in games..

RE: Female Characters

I've got a few female toons myself (male here). Two of them in particular get a lot of hits: a Mind/Sonic controller named Hypnosystah and an Inv/Axe tank named Bootie McCall. It's hillarious how guys will bend over backwards to act like idiots when they think they're talking to a real woman.

Being a RL table-top gamer, I know that gamer-girls are in serious shortage and that in person, gamer guys tend to lose their cool just as easily, if not more so. I know. Been there done that before I switched teams.

I don't know why men do that. Women are people too. I think gamer girls bring a great, fresh perspective to whatever they play.

RE: Female Characters

i haven't thought about RPing at all, however, I think I might just do that. I hear so many female VG/SG members tell me how they are always getting hit on and such, i think it'll be a cool concept to RP WND. She's going to be a concept character as in no travel powers (i'll take swift and hurdle and slot those only). She is a MA/Ninjitsu Natural Stalker. Thinking of a bio for her as we speak.

Dare I break out the tome that is the Firespray Costume Archive? I've had more costumes that most people have on all their alts put together.

I think after a while it becomes something that you wanna do after a month or so looking at the same thing, you make variations on the ideas you started with until one day, after say.... 47 costumes you finally find one you like.

Now with Aylissa, she's had 5 changes. So Far. Sensible costumes, none of this 'tarty' stuff you see flaunting itself round like Paragon City is a meat market. Perfectly acceptable and hehehehe its funny when I have them chat to me and are all nice and I'm more interested in the guys costumes in the group.....

RE: Female Characters

I have to agree with what was said about how guys just lose it and start flirting and acting like idiots as soon as a female toon joins their team. My first alt (2nd most played character) in CoH is a female toon named Empress D. I dunno what it is, but guys just go nuts going out of their way to TP me or give me enhancements and whatnot. I even got to join the coveted fortune teller mission for free (everyone else had to pay 50K influence) because the guy running it was flirty with the character.
Empress D is based on my RL ex-girlfriend (not my ex at the time of her creation), and really the only reason I make the female characters is for a change of pace. Sometimes its nice not to see the back of a guy character the whole time running around.
Some female characters I've made because of cool background stories. For instance, I have a female villain on Infinity named Thermal Dawn. Her story is that she's Empress D's arch-nemesis.
Other times, I just think of cool names that work better for female toons.

I think so far, it is a change of pace and scenery of course. However, i enjoy the female toon. I'm not going to go out of my way to "ask" or "solicit" any gifts, however, if I get offers from those wanting to give, then I won't turn it down by any means. Yes, the TPs will be nice seeing my concept is not to have her with any travel powers, save Swift and hurdle (she's in good shape, what can i say).

But, are the majority of the ingame guys that bad? i guess i don't notice that piece due to the private tells that may go in while teaming. I know personally, I enjoyed teaming with female toons (some very good players).

Maybe not the majority, but at least half. My character's sex is determined by the story I have for him or her. Thermablaze happened by accident, she was just an alt I was creating for the (at the time) official Gameamp SG. And then I leveled her to 50, because she kicked butt. And on my way, I got to find out what the average guy player is all about. I find it quite amusing when a guy hits on my female characters, and I don't bother to correct them. Heck, I had one guy constantly asking my ice controller, Bluepuss, if I was a guy or girl? Guy or girl? All I would say is... "Cat".

RE: Female Characters

Well I have all female chars but one, and yes i am a female irl.

I have tried to play male toons but for some reason or another they end up getting deleted. The on that I have now is a fire fire tank names Uber Goober. He might make it thru bc I like the pwrset.

Yes it is true that female toons get hit on, and may I add way too much. It has gotten do bad before that I have told the sg and they bombarded the guy with tells and they petitioned the guy. lol it was great.

Hmmmm, almost have to agree with Firespray. I would say replace the pink with maybe a nice chartreuse or perhaps a solid taupe. Would bring out the color of her hair and maybe take a little of that overbearing red thats creeping in all over and mellow it. BUT looks sweet all the same. Although, the shoulder crop cut is a little passe. Meh, what do I know. Now my lil hero, Sapir. She is shweeeet. Her first iteration with the leather jacket and thigh highs (stiletto heel, of course); really show off her legs while still being tasteful. A little tarty with the mini, but just the barest hint of skin. All attitude, exudes likability, and a touch of unsophisticated playfulness. She is always the life of the mish, and the fellas think she's aces.....Aw, geez, I gotta go watch some Ultimate Fighting or something.

Im male myself but most of my characters are female. The biggest reason is Im a bit of a pervert and Id rather stare at a womans butt than a mans. My main character, Pyralis Lycae, looks sweet in leather.

Its funny though, I still act like myself unless Im in an RPing mood and it seems to confuse some people. When asked if Im a guy or a girl, I reply, "Thats for me to know and you to find out."

If they continue to push the issue, I ask, "Does it really matter?" and that usually shuts them up.

RE: Female Characters

Is there an actual protocol to playing reverse genders? do you have to always announce what your true sex is? I know i've heard of people that RP and all and they get into the role to the point where they tell everyone they are the same sex as the toon (i'm not sure if all do or not). just wondering what the protocol on this is. I don't want to be accused of being deceptive or manipulative or anything.

RE: Female Characters

I dont believe there is a protocal for this. Nor shoudld there be. I believe you are the toon you play that day. If someone wants to harass you over your "real sex" report them if they get excessive, otherwise I just ignore them and they usually go away.
I enjoy playing my female toons. When I play them I play them as the characters they are created to be. Created the toon "Arctic Sizzle" last night. She is the raciest of my female toons and plays that way. On the other hand when I play "Dark Light" she is very conservative and secrative.
Male or female all my toons play in the spirit of their origin stories.

I know Ron, for Firespray's complete costume wardrobe; you could call it Firespray's Fab Fashion 5,000! Or maybe with his prolific fashion sense he should write a guide to all the possible combinations of Super Garb. Heaven knows that I've seen enough toons out there that need some help. I mean, WHITE after September 1st?!?
(okay, I know I wear white after Sept 1st, but I live in sunny southern California...you know it never rains here)

Yep...there is that element.

My three highest toons are male, but I do have a number of female alts - Lady Elixir, Astrasmash, Emma's Dolly, Plata Solida (Oro Liquido's "sister" if you will...though she might still be in Outbreak), Hot Butter, Amply Tude (uh, definitely a concept there). My two highest CoV toons are female - Mistress Scorn, and Zap Dingbat (who I just made a couple days ago but have up to 10).

For whatever reason, I guess I just like the costume options better. For my male toons, I tend to stick with the boring spandex look; I'm just not one for armor, or robotics, tech gear, etc. Red Menacer's look is non-spandex (hood, cargo pants and no shirt...with red skin) but that was modeled off of something. Though costume or not, a number of them are just going with whatever pops into my head concept-wise (Lady E is actually a revamping of an old MUD character).

Right out of Breakout I got a costume compliment on Zap, from another female toon, just a simple "like the look". I got the "hey, you're hot" with Hot Butter (um, yeah kind of going for that). But then, I got a couple of those for Blue-Agave's threads too.

RE: Female Characters

Ok i gotta ring in on this one, i have 2 female charaters and they rock! i don't play them as much as i would like just because i suffer from altitous...but anyway... my thing is i make a toon i make one with a cool story to go along with the power sets i have chosen for them...my 2 are devilish heart and mrs. yuck. Heart is a fire/dev blaster who i modeled after nogame's fire/dev guide and then mrs. yuck is a spine/regen..they are both still under 20 but they are some kick ass toons and guys love devilish heart for some reason...but i'm always up front and tell them i'm a guy IRL.

I do have more male toons than female, but haveing some small female toon wailing on huge villains and monsters is pretty sweet.

As far as interacting with female players i always try to be nice and give them mad props in game, some of them are even on my global buddy lists and keep in touch with me and tell me bout their personal lives, if any of them are men in real life ..well whatever i'm just here to have fun and kick ass.

Different strokes move the world so more power to the women who game and the men who pretend to be chicks who game.

RE: Female Characters

Some concepts just lend themselves well to female characters. I mean, imagine: little-bitty woman, BIG HONKING AXE! It's a hoot!
