this is easy. BRUTE

it comes down to a matter of power to weight ratio just like in cars. pound for pound you simply cannot beat a brute's pure strength and playablility.

I'll have to go with Masterminds as well. As far as Solo-ing, they're one of the most versatile archetypes out there. All the others are pretty "specific" in their jobs.

I gots to aggre with RonJ. Iw as playing my Brute to 17.5 and messed with my Merc/Arrow alt. He's nigh on 15 and I have been having a blast. I've have come to enjoy the control arrows offers too BTW. Brutes are still fun, and i've tried others as well, but them MM just rock bring in the militia. Folks send invites all the time cause they need numbers and want the MM. may have to change the avatar? lol

Going with a stalker here folks...the one shot drop ability and if you do it right, you can make their defense enough to solo a boss w/o a problem. I just think they could placate/stab their way thru almost anything...

Plant Dominators RULE. Got 1 to 40 working on another. Doc Mandrake has been soloing on the highest setting for quite some time. He is a killing machine and there isnt much he cant handle. My second faves is my main thermal corupter, Katie 80 (L31) is a healing/buffing machine with nice attacks. Did a MM in Beta and it was nice, may work on one later. didnt care for stalker so far (only took one to 3) and havent found the "right" brute combo for me.

mmmm.....well....yup, without question, mastermind is the ultimate AT for soloing regular missions! In large groups, it's too crowded, especially in caves. Robots are my favorite.

I'm just waiting for a mastermind set that has henchmen that do damage other than the "basics" of Smashing and Lethal. Those damage types are too resisted. I know Mercs have a little bit of fire and energy at higher levels, Zombies have a little negative energy, Bots have partial energy damage from day 1 and the Ninjas have some fire damage later on. Likely the Thug set is going to be almost all Smashing and Lethal damage.

alright, corruptors are really underrated. They might not be the best solo player however, they show great promis in groups....if the player is good......but thats always the case.. exept with brutes. but anyway, a Ice/Dark corr is really good they slow the badguys and then can heal and rez i dunno about u but that is a good team aspect. and if u have dark as second, u can rez many peeps in caves because it has a AOE not one specific target. so in team aspects i think a corruptor is a critical component in a team

I dont think a corrupter is a critical coponent in the team. All they do is die first and fast(from my experiences) my mm has zombies and dark and i do some healing now and then and rez all the time mostly the corrupter. MM is the best when pets are slotted to the player ability and plus they have their own freakin army in their pocket. i will have to say dominater is the most underated i hardly see any of them and when they are own a team it so subtle that i forget that we have one.
Funny thing is that corrupter is like a villain defender and i always play a defender. From what i have seen ppl playing 1 arent playing right they run in all run in like rambo and die even if we have a brute. The best corrupter i have seen being played was girl on my team cant remeber name but she had all heals and buffs and didnt die like the rest of us.

WoW!?!?!...no love for the Corr's huh? well im throwing some that way. I have played all the types and i have to say i really enjoy my Corruptors more than the rest. I have a Fire asst./Rad. that always seems to be the glue that keeps the grp going. I have gotten nothing but compliments about my boy and his proformance.

The whole question really comes down to not which is the best but rather what type do most people feel comfortable in. I think all the AT's are cool and work for their purpose, but my 'favorite' has to be Corruptor!!!

alright let me restate my statment, a healing corruptor is great i have had a healing MM on my team, but it seemed that he had to put most of his time into giving his minions orders rather than healing his friends.... now a corruptor on the other han can focus on healing thats all folks

What meant was that i think that a corrupter is best suited 4 healing than damage dealing even that is another one of there specialties. A stalker can do the DD, a brute can do the DD, and a MM's pets can also deal some damage. I think a corr is best healing and now and then attacking when everything is going great or when it is really needed.

I disagree on the corr and the Dom comments. Maybe you have had bad teams,but a corr primary is attack, not buffs/heals. Although they are the best healers and buffers this is not their "main" power. I have several Def including a L50 Dark, L26 Dark and L25 empathy and corrupters are not defenders. Unfortunately much like their blaster counterparts some rush in and get too much aggro. As far as Dominators again you must not be teaming with good ones, as i mentioned my L40 plant/thorn solo's on the highest setting and my 11 will be there by L24, when i'm in a group there is no doubt of my impact. When the brute pulls aggro and most of the group he rushed into is held helpless, sleeping falling down or fighting each other, there is definitely a clear effect.

As far as MM's I agree with another comment that they are busy with their pets. And on the same lines, i have run into MANY MM's that could not control aggro. MMs from my experience dont make very good healers because their heals tend to be weaker, tend to have smaller radiuses and tend to have slower reaction due to focusing on pets.

Any AT can over aggro including tanks,brutes scrappers that are supposed to aggro.

And even if they were, Defenders aren't healers, per se.

It seems like every so often somebody shows up who either hasn't played long, or hasn't played a defender (or a corruptor for that matter), and the opinion is that they should "be quiet, sit in the back, and heal."

I have a level 39 storm/dark defender. I didn't get 02 Burst (the only heal in the set) until level 35, and that was only to be able to occasionally heal my partner in crime that I run with. But I am still a valuable commodity in any team, because I so what a defender should do... I KEEP MY TEAM ALIVE. There is a huge difference between that and being a healer. Being a healer is not nearly as important as keeping people alive.

The role of the corruptor doesn't seem to be nearly as clear cut for me... but I do know that my corruptor doesn't die anymore than any other AT I have seen, and packs plenty of punch. I don't think that there are very many corruptors that are gonna go along with playing "healer"... especially since the heals are only in the secondary. Not to say you won't get healed... just don't count on it! Heck, we ARE villains after all...

Agreed, i have 2 therm corr as well as a dark (in addition to the heroes), 1 thermal is "a defender with nice attacks" she has the sheilds, heals and buffs and is a good attacker but strong buff/healer. My second is more "blaster" with the heals, but no buffs. I enjoy both but they are played very differently. I particularly like the energy set with my "defender" therm, nice "get out of my face" knockback. my "blaster" therm is fire for raw damage. And having darks both Def and Corr, i realize its not all always about healing and i thik the therm is nice mix of heal/def/buff/debuff good flexibility to create "your own style" by focusing on what you like in the set or take all and have 1 flexible toon.

I third the whole defender/corruptor healer stance. My rad/rad def was far more buff/debuff and control (yes im like the only one who liked choking cloud). The rad radius heal was minimal and unless you were spamming it it wasnt crucially powerful, but the rez rocked. Corruptors have healing secondary, but are meant to blitz the enemy away and heal in case the dont go down quick enough. when folks always called for healer when i had the star i preferred controllers, and now dominators. obsolete opponents is far better than healing. I am liking my arrows set far more now because of that aspect to it. between entangling with LOS blockage, slow down glue, and ice block, i can deal with targets while the Mercs focus on priority targets.
although that doesnt mean that in massive uber missions a healer doesnt become more than just helpful.

I'm not sure if this was the right one to copy, but I voted stalker. Its the only one I've been bothered to play very much, and its been a blast. Its even better now I can PvP. The damage output, the sneaky-ness, it's brilliant. Ninjitsu seems the only set really made for stalking though, with mass placates and the like.

I'm not sure why no one likes corruptors very much. I've played an Ice/Ice a little, and so far its been pretty good.

I agree that a corr isnt exactly a "healer" but i havent teamed with any that were really a core elements in the team.i the one that i did team w/ a while back had all heals and buffs and they kept the team alive and healed better than i could. Also stalkers can dish the most damage that i have seen so far. Today for instance i teamed w/ 2 corr doing an Av mish,cant really remeber what the mission was called. By the way the corr's didnt heal once. I played a defender twice including a storm/energy(wasnt a good combo) i played as a blaster with him(he was my first toon) i didnt die too much unlike the corr i teamed with. My dark/dark defender i mainly play as a defender(healing/rezzing and buffing and debuffing) I dont die unless i am taking on too many opponents w/out support. I attack if necessary(for example the first mission in the croatoa tf). Blasters dont die as often as the corrs in my team(i have teamed w/ blasters that never die in a mish. In coclusion i believe that the ones that i have teamed with just "sucked" and i think that a corrupter can deal dmg and heal if the player knows what they r expected to do.

Corrupters are fun, and as far as dealing damage I have been known to "go postal" on a boss. With knockback i can keep them off their feet while I take em out. I prefer to run mine in teams, they can solo but the way mine are set up they are much better in teams. My Doms tend to be more flexible and can solo and team well. I'm currently trying a couple different Dom types, and experimenting with brutes.
