Finding a Team

So as I was reading another post here I thought of a good question to ask everyone. So how long does it take you to find a team once you start looking. I would also like to know what kind of character you play, and your means of searching for a team.

With me (lvl 4 human barb) it takes under 5 min of me checking the lft box. I usually do not receive a tell first, but this doesn't bother me to much. I just join the team and ask them what we are doing. If it something I would like to do I stick around, if it isn't I tell them, "thanks, but no" and quit the team and check my lft box again.

Come on share with the group!

RE: Finding a Team

Depends on what lvl I am and class:

As a warforged fighter and in the Harbor I could sit and wait for a while. Normally after getting a group the begging began not to leave it.... mahahaha.

The pally on the other hand took on seconds to get a group and once in the Marketplace getting /tells if I wanted to join a group were not uncommon.

Saying all that I've waited very long times with both of them and never found a group due to the "time of day", i.e. 3a.m. EST - Midnight PST; weekdays vice weekends.

Elf Sorc/3 I'm getting tells even while Im in other groups and not lfg. It's insane. But moastly I put my own groups togeather which I can have done in minutes usually.

RE: Finding a Team

Tanks have a harder time finding groups, since there are so many of them. Clerics have the easiest time, since they can heal - heck I get four or five Tells while I'm in a group already. Wizards & Sorcerers fall in between, depending on their level and the mission a group is running. On some mission an arcane caster is a mission requirement - on others not so needed. I can think of one mission chain that utterly *needs* a good mage at the end.

If you want to talk times - I've never waited more than ten minutes for a group when I've actively wanted to find one. I set an LFG message as well as put up the LFG icon. If you see people in a tavern with the icon - ask them what they are looking to do.

All too often, you'll see people with the LFG icon just standing in clumps - none of them really doing anything but hoping someone will send them a Tell. Be pro-active. Take the initiative & get your own ball rolling. If you can't find a group, then make one of your own. I hate being a Party-Leader, but it sure beats staring at the tavern walls hoping someone happens on my name by chance.

I may not know how different DDO's grouping system is from other games - so I can't compare as others can. I do know that it works very, very well. But, like any system, you need to use it to get maximum benefit from it. If you are passive about grouping - then don't expect rapid results ( unless your a cleric ). If you *are* active about it - I have to say again I've never gone longer than ten minutes unless I chose to have some down-time.

RE: Finding a Team

Are there any classes (not races *grin*) that have problems find groups?

RE: Finding a Team

Paladins have a rougher time than most - since they do not tank as well as a fighter or heal/turn undead as well as clerics of the same level. Also - their auras were broken most of the time in the beta, and only are now being fixed. I think that will change a bit in retail, as their auras are now not only working - but highly customizable and effective. A Paladin's Lay On Hands is also significantly beefed up from tabletop.

I can say this from experience, as I worked a Pali up to 8th.

Elf Ranger 4/Rogue 1.

I did not find it necessarily hard to get in a group except if it was for a particular quest I wanted to get done. In these cases, groups were mosltly looking for healers or casters. Otherwise I was invited into groups as high as +2 levels. Most were accomplished successfully.

I'd say 10 minutes would be about the max as well.

This brings a good question to mind for me. I never really decided which quest I was wanting to do. I just wanted to team up and smash stuff (no really why else play a barb?). If you were concerned about which quest was being done, was it harder to find a team? Or were people pretty willing to do a quest that was requested?

In part it is a part of RP'ing, going on to the next saga.

Or having a quest that will soon be under level if not already. Just want to get it out of the way.

I have been an excellent solo'er, but this game after the first part of the harbor doesn't allow for that easily. In the least you won't complete all of the optional objectives.

RE: Finding a Team

Honestly, it depends on which quest your wanting to do...
I've never seen a Redwillow request go unanswered for very long. Ditto for Steam Tunnels, Garrison's Missing Pack, etc. However, smaller & less XP intensive quests often are hard to fill. I really enjoy Red Fang - but it's hard to get a group for it due to a perceived low XP "problem".

Personally, I'm a "play for the fun - not the reward" kind of person. If a quest is fun, tough w/o being impossible, and has some neat elements - I love to revisit them. However, many in the Beta felt that if the reward was not up to their standards they'd rather pass it by.

But, that's also why being the Leader of a group is harder than just finding one. Perhaps so much so that it bears making another thread about it. If you are the Leader of the group, your in charge of not only the people who join your group - but also the quest you run. If you pick a popular quest, than your group is fleshed out quickly. If you want to go for one of the more unloved quests, it's harder to do.

RE: Finding a Team

From my experience playing so far,it seems to vary depending upon the time of day, what class you are, what level you are,and which quest the party was doing. Wizards are prolly the most sought after especially at level 5 and up just based on they were harder to find. Clerics always were in high demand but it seemed there were just more of them to fill parties. Bards and warforged were prolly the least sought after. I personally like having a bard in a group. Just seems others really didn't. Warforged are just a pain to heal which is why some don't care for them in parties. Tanks always seemed to be plentiful. Rogues and rangers seem to be in the middle and are sought after depending on the quest.

What is it about bards you don't like?

RE: Finding a Team

I've seen many groups with a "No Warforged" in their LFM message - and more still who kick them once the leader becomes aware of their race. The only time I've seen a WF avoid being kicked by a group leader who hates the race was a Fighter who'd purchased his own wands - and traded them to the spellcaster to use for healing.

Warforged are becoming less and less welcome in groups.

Doh, I miss read it.

Why don't others like bards. I've never had a problem with them on a team before, but I haven't teamed with a whole lot of them.

I think most folks see them as watered-down bards who occasionally strum a lute. Personally, I enjoy having a bard in the party - and their music can really come in handy before a big fight. I multiclassed my Sorcerer as a bard at 5th level as well - and really enjoyed the skill-set I gained.

Hum... I guess I need to team with a few more.

I take it in the pnp game they are stronger than they are in DDO?
