Will shadow lurking turn Doom 3 into a war fps where people are hiding in every corner, or will it add to a more innoviate means of competitive gameplay?
I'd really love see some new twists. Some subtle changes that added new depth to teamplay such as the Q2>Q3 - 2 minute quad spawn. Perhaps the level design and shadow lurking will transform teamplay into a whole new entity in Doom 3.
That is of course if you can't tweak the gamma and brightness to the degree where players will always be visible no matter where they are. =/

I would give anything to have this be quake 2 on steriods... either way I have faith in ID to do what is best.
This is one of the few games I don't think I will be let down on. Hell if it plays golden single players I will be happy, if we can play online and have a good old school DM game, win or lose this will be my game.

I think there is a misconception that complexity adds depth. No matter how many variables you throw into a game it can hide shoddy core gameplay. All though I am sure someone will take me to task for this stance on things, I don’t exactly relish allot of the fancy smancy crud pushed out of late. My kingdom for the first company that spends their time making a great core game, with a few good maps… and doesn’t waste it on all sorts of extras that I don’t care about.

thats a strong point. Complexity may not add depth, but may be a bi-product of it. It's simply gonna take a very fine line to get it right... at least what I'd like to see in D3.

To often I think allot of “innovations” are nothing more than extra junk thrown into to hide from the fact that essentially the core game sucks.
But this thread is begging for a full blown article/rant from me.

As soon as I don’t come off as a crotchety old fart, and it doesn’t wax nostalgic I will post it.

I'd say the shadows will add a lot to Doom 3 Multiplayer. Most current sci-fi FPSs place a lot of importance on being able to get around the map quickly in order to keep control of items and outmaneouvre your opponent. The shadows will add another option - staying in the shadows and crouching to avoid footstep sounds will allow you to disguise your position. If you can know where your opponent is without letting them find you, you can ambush them with a point blank shotgun shell or a rocket from the shadows. Speed vs. Stealth will be an interesting twist in multiplayer.
