1.2 talk???  

man these forums are so dead...

not a single post about the new patch here since it came out two days ago.

i keep hearing people either praise 1.2 or hate on it to no end.

seems like all the players at or above first sergeant love the patch though.

personally i love it. there's a few bugs, but the fixes are worth it.

one of the biggest complaints i've heard are that the support guns are TOO good now. THEY'RE FREAKING LIGHT MACHINE GUNS. THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE THAT GOOD. same for grenade/rocket launchers, that's why support, assault, and AT are all given crappy stamina with body armor to compensate.

the heatseekers' movement looks retarded now, but at least they hit targets. they tend to ignore flares if you fire after they've locked on though, it's not supposed to work like that. i've found that the only way to shake a good pilot now is to ascend above 1000 feet and make sure you don't hit the red zone.

prone jumping still works sometimes......

it's a lot harder to c4 a helicopter now, but still do-able. i got one last night. the either have to fly really low, or you have to plant all five bricks right under them and let the splash damage do it's thing. the armor on the choppers is low enough now for that to work.

the new sniper rifle is EXACTLY like the m24 except for the crosshairs. this isn't just my opinion, i looked up the stats on both weps and they're exactly the same.

the p90 does 19 freaking damage. that's 6 hits to kill an unarmored opponent. you're better off using the mp5. the hit detection on the p90 seems a little messed up too. only nice thing is that it's relatively accurate and has a 50 round clip.

the snipers are nearly exactly the has u say escept for the you can take down helis and plane with if your can kill the driver in 1 shot ive done this a few times but it has to be a good shot in the head not only does it kill the driver but also blows the heli up

the m95 is a special case. it does 95 damage, just like the m24 and l96a1, but it has the same accuracy as the svd and type 88. the ONLY reason the gun is any good is because it shoots through bulletproof glass.

the reason it only takes one shot is because all sniper rifles have damage multipliers for headshots. they are the ONLY weapons in the game that do that, which i think is kinda retarded. a headshot is a headshot, whether with an mp5, an m24, or an RPK. helmeted/armored soldiers should obviously have limited headshot protection from non-armor-piercing rounds, but you shouldn't have to shoot someone in the head 5 times with an m4.

P90 blows, not true ive tested and pistols have multipliers too, which is damm good cuz everyone knows 12 shots with a pistol sometimes isnt enough, but its 2 to the head witha pistol and one to the head with a g63c.. dont assume so much.

as for the claymores not blowing up ur own team its a load of crap, i cannot belive how fake that is!

Yeah, pistols and rifles do significantly more damage when you're shooting someone in the head. The damage seems to go up when you're shooting someone in the back of the head, but that could just be my imagination.

And two things about claymores not blowing up friendlies:
1. It's not fake, because these motion sensing claymores don't exist. I'm an 8 year veteran of the US Army Infantry. I've been to combat. I've been in special operations. Claymores that blow themselves up don't exist, so don't get too upset when these magic claymores are made even more magical.

2. It's all about play balance. Prior to the 1.2 patch, mines and claymores were the number one source of TKs, subsequent punishes and possibly kick/bans for snipers and engineers. I found myself using claymores and mines in very few places, whereas I ALWAYS used the medic aid pack, I ALWAYS used the support ammo bag and yes, I'd even use the assault's smoke grenade.

When you're building a class-based game, the classes have to at least SEEM functionally equal. When a class is given something and it only effect is usually -2 Teamwork, You have been punished, something clearly needs to be done. So, that part of the patch is fantastic for me.

The increased accuracy on the machineguns was long overdue, but very welcome. I always thought it was complete idiocy that a M-16 can consistantly outshoot a SAW when any infantryman knows that's not true. The SAW's still not as accurate, but it's much more in line with reality and game-balance.

I haven't used the P90 much, but have had a lot of fun with the L96A1. Until the OP mentioned it, I hadn't realized that it was nearly identical to the M24. The L96A1 does appear to have a faster rate of fire, smaller muzzle flash and quieter shot, though. It is obviously not in line with other weapons introducted in the SF, however. The F2000 is the reigning king of the assault weapons and the other weapon unlocks introduced with SF are also at the top of their class. The L96A1 seems to be only on par or slightly ahead of the default sniper weapons and the Barrett.

Making it a lot harder to dolphin dive was a great change, as well.

And of course, introducing fatal errors into Special Forces was just ridiculous.

So, all in all, I'd say it was a good patch, but they definately have some mop-up work and its release was probably premature.
