I am going to start a Berserker. After reading what little information there is out there on the classes this one definetly sounded like the funnest in my opinion. Here's a quote I nabbed off of the web which convinced me.
"The best way I can describe our Berserker is an offensive fighter that thrives on taking damage. In fact.. the more damage he takes, the more damage he can dish out. Playing the Berserker will be HARD. You are likely going to die more than other classes while learning how to play. That said.. a well played Berserker is going to be SCARY in their ability to do damage." - Elidroth (Doug Cronkhite)[1]
Sounds awesome ...some of my funnest experiences in Eq1 were the hanging by your shirt tale victories. You know the ones that took 12 defeats before you actually tasted victory (i.e. Rallos Zek, Agnarr). Being low health and hitting harder means you must be always conscious of aggro control. I also found this which hammered it home for me.
One of the ways a Berserker can control their level of rage is to delay heals upon them.. or sometimes even ignore them completely." - Elidroth (Doug Cronkhite)[

Wow, that does indeed sound as great fun. I love playing on the edge, and playing melee. That quote makes it definately worth to try it out.

Bard....need I say more? I loved the bard from EQ1 and I was told that if you loved the class in EQ, then you'll love it in Vanguard. Plus you will be able to make your own songs....oh the possiblities.

Your own songs! That is a great concept. I can see it already. We will be travelling across the lands just to hear the famous Bylie play at the Three Barrels.

Hum... what happens when the person who is making the song is tone deaf? Does this mean we all have to listen to horrible music if the bard on the team doesn't have musical tallent? Or can you choose to not make your own music?

I always play humans. It's just easier for me to fall into the game when I don't have horns or green skin. So I will be a human ranger. I've always preferred rangers, even back in my D&D days. They just fit my play style perfectly.

Bards
This is the first information I heard Friday night at the cocktail party, and unfortunately I didn’t have my notebook with me. I tried to jot down what I could remember, but forgive me if it is unclear.
Basically, a bard will create his own songs. He will start out with a melody, which will be made up of some kind of effect. As he levels he will gain access not only to more different kinds of effects but to more parts of the song, like a harmony or refrain for example, which will give him more “slots” to add effects into, if you will. This will allow you to create the effect of twisting, and force you to make choices about what effects are most important to you in a given situation, without the same kind of twitch. You could swap out parts of the song on the fly, although it would have to stop and restart. You also get to name your song, and it will show up with that name on the effects bar of those receiving its benefits.
Each time an effect is refreshed it consumes power, so the more effects in a song the more power it will use. Talisker mentioned the use of ‘rests’ in a song, which lowers its overall utility but decreases power consumption; he indicated that you could actually make a song that consumed no power using these rests. In addition, all songs are stored on the server (there will be a limit, he mentioned something like 40) so that wherever you play your bard you will have access to your songs.
What about instruments? Instruments are in, but they aren’t used in combat. They are used out of combat for things like regen and run speed (“Yes,” Talisker said, “you will be running fast.”). He told us that, unlike in EQ, bards will be doing so much damage that they wouldn’t want to miss out on weapon damage to hold a lute anyway. I say amen to that!
I think my guild leader found this tid bit on wiki or something and it locked in bard for me.

After reading this I would say playing a Bard sounds like it will totally rock! How can you not want run speed?!

Bumping this thread to see if anyone has changed their minds about their chosen class.
As new things come to light about class and class abilities, I have had to step back and take another look.
My wife is still holding on to her "Cleric" Roots, even tho she still talks about the Paladin. I am leaning toward a Ranger, but not sure he would hold up well along side my Live in Cleric.
My other option was the Dread Knight, but so little info is known. I have played a caster for so long I will look funny without a robe.

Yep in these games I am always compelled by habit to have a bard, paladin, and a human toon bur from what little I have seen so far it looks like the classes and proffessions in Vangaurd will have a really nice level of depth for those that want to take advantage of it and explore the possibilities. :)

I'm torn between a Ranger and a Monk. I usually follow the path of the ranger, but as time goes by the idea of something new grows more appealing. But a lot of my decision will be based on the starting continent everyone agrees on.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

The monk class seems really well developed in recent MMORPG's and even back in my old favorite The Bard's Tale.
I bet lots will be interested in your thoughts of you have had time to play that class for awhile.
