Well for all who followed the public appearances of Gayle
and for all who read the articles about factions,
We all know it has been announced that "stones and gems" will get a function in Factions..
Now, do they mean that rubies and sapphires will be necessary to craft the new kinda 'FoW' armor??
Lots of people have taken a big risk already by buying all rubies and sapphires like madmen
The price of the ruby and sapphire almost doubled in about 2-3 weeks...
What is your guys opinion on this? Coz as an active GW-player i might consider start buying rubies and sapphires as well..

i dont see the point in spending money on items that could infact be useless, i'd be laughing my ass off if they do nothing xD!
Then again they could be used for some sort of new armor, but i wouldn't buy them unless i was certain, no point in taking risks, after all it is still a rumour, Gayle didn't say rubies and sapphires, she just said gems etc.
I'd say this: Buy at your own risk!

I think that rubies and/or sapphires will play some role in factions...
I have started buying rubies and sapphires a while ago, I know that it's on my own risk, but I trust it that they will get some purpose in factions...
The only risk I see is that they could become a normal drop in Factions in stead of the rare drops that they are now

thats a good point, but if you look on the other side of the argument, if you buy 10000 rubies and saphries now for 6k each or how ever much they are, and in factions they are worth triple that then you will be UBER rich. Then again, they could just be used to decorate pets armor or something useless, Gaile never said they would be used in something useful LOL

opinions are a bit devided i notice...
but think about this, now they are like 6K each...
for all of you who play GW long long time..
ecto's were for a whole long time like 15-18K a piece
if you can buy now at 6K
and price will explode to 18K (or even more coz lots of players have a lot of cash now)
that would be hell of a difference in price..
PS Don't sell that nice Crystalline Kos ^^

Rumours about crafting new armor with rubies & saphires in chapter 2 started already several months ago.
Since then i always kept them if they where dropped for me.
Rubies, saphires and even monstrious eyes...(you never know...) :)
I dont think ecto's will be so expensive again, they became cheaper since the time Tomb was introduced.
You can find there ecto's as well...

My opinion is that these two commodities being saved up by people in this GW for Factions, will kind of ruin the whole experience of getting the item they will be used for, be it armour etc. Because if it is armour, some people may be able to buy it straight away. Sure, they have worked for it in GW, but in my view, will still ruin the experience if you can see the point I am getting at.
At the moment, if people want FoW armour, they go down into FoW and UW to get the items generally. Who's not to say there is an area in Factions that drops items for the new 'Uber' armour.
Anyhow, sorry about this if it seems slightly off topic. But it would be nice to see these items used maybe for items like amulets for example (not sure if that has been mentioned for implementation or not), or decorative armour.

i myself wouldn't buy all those material... can u imagine anet not releasing new fow armor :P
everything would be for not and no one would buy them of you.... you're stuck with them, unless you sell it to the merchant of course.
but all in all its sure to be a waste of time and money.
and yeah i agree with Gothic Tragedy...
it would make the new expensive armor less special if everyone were to buy it the day its released.

I'm not gonna waste any money now on stuff that isn't useful at this time and also I'm not really "saving up" money for use in Factions, I'll just wait and see what happens and if there's something there I like I'll buy it for the expensive price.
Ofcourse, it would take a bit longer but it would be a pain to be stuck with a lot of useless stuff you paid fortune on aswell.

yes but i do belive gail said somewhere that it's is a shame that ectos are so cheap now and that they will take action to ensure they go up in price. and--- is it only me or do they seam to drop less now thant they did say 3 weeks ago?
also... uber armor... didn't gaile also say that the new armors in factions will not exel to much over the ones we alredy have? so perhaps there will be a new equilent to the fow armor but i doubt it will be uber

Well if you read all info about factions, you will have read as well that there will be certain area's where only the winning alliance can go to..
which brings it down to 50% if you can go there or not
FoW and UW here have 33% of beeing able to go
But becoz Factions is a stand alone game, they will have their own new FoW armor their... coz they gotta have an expensive armor for PvE players to achieve..
I think it would be kinda nice to not let sapphires and rubies be the stones and gems needed to craft that armor..
maybe it would ballance economics a bit ;-)

Where can one obtain Rubies and Sapphires besides the Rare Material vendor. Do they drop or do you have to salvage them?

used for armor,, yes
used for armor as expensive as fow?? no
extremly rare to drop.. yes
in my 4000hrs of gaming i have only had 3 drop
2 were in fow 1 in uw

uhm trib... if only the winning faction can go the chance of going there is way less than 50% since ur faction has to be the one in control of that perticular area, and not a faction from ur part of the world (since factions technically can exsist of one guild from asia, one from us and one from eu, and 7 more guilds)
