Mission Sitters

Don't you find it annoying when someone enters a mission with you and then, at some point in the quest, stops fighting and ends up leaving you with a crippled party to try and fight your way through the rest of it? I propose that we create a list of these 'Mission Sitters' so that those of us who frequent this site may have a resource as to who NOT to allow in their party. Perhaps this may help teach such people that their tactics won't work much longer. As such, I would like to make the first contribution to this list. Please, though, feel free to add. I shall update the list as new ones get added on.

RE: Mission Sitters

I had something similar to this happen to me today. I was doing Delassio Seaborard with my monk. As soon as we got in our nly warrior left, and or monk was "afk". So me and 3 eles had to beat the mission alone...which kinda sucked. So at the end cutscreen, we thought we would have a long wait, but suprisingly everyone in the group skipped it, even though someone was "afk".
IDK how relevant this was, but i thought it kinda fit so I added it. And yes, I do think there are too many of these people, but its just part of life and we all have to deal with it.

RE: Mission Sitters

I've been in nearly identical situations and it does suck. I'm not sure making a list will help since the people that do it can do it to you on up to 3 other characters per account. If guildwars would just let us put people on ignore and it worked for more than just tells and it also worked for all their characters on the account, I would be alot happier. Good luck with your list though, I've never wrote any names down since I didn't feel it would do me any good.

Just for the record, I REALLY WAS AFK. I have done this on a few occasions, however, none of them were intentional. Like once, I was forced to watch a movie while my party continued on without my help. And once, I was forced to leave the house, lol.

Well I only did something like this once, but not on purpose.

We were halfway through THK and we a fantastic team, then I had to have dinner, so I placed my char in a corner and told them I had to have dinner, they were fine with it so they finished the mission while I was afk.

I don't see this as mission sitting though.

RE: Mission Sitters

I had a similar situation. We were in D'Allesio Seaboard, had just done the main part, and were on our way to do the bonus. We just got before the pedestal, when somebody said they had do go for a short while, and asked if they could just stay in the party. I had no problem with this, and nobody else did, as they had helped for nearly all the mission, and asked.

I just have a problem when people just don't help at all and sit there, expecting people to do the mission for them. If this happens, I usually speak to the rest of the team to quit and regroup without the person. (Only if it is near the start of the mission though).

RE: Mission Sitters

It happened to me only once, funnily enough also in the D'Alessio Seaboard. We had picked up the Eye of Whatnot and the only other monk suddenly decided to grow roots and become deaf. What really rankled was the fact that he was pulled through the mission as well without doing anything. A nice kick option for the teamleader and then right before finishing the mission...

Well it would probably be abused too much, so the current situation is better, but sometimes...

I've had this happen on a few occations, but i'm a pretty quick eater and usually make it back in like 5-10 minutes, so i'm usually back before its over. Which then i proceed to help.

RE: Mission Sitters

I don't mind carrying someone through a mission as long as it's for a valid reason they had to go and they had already contributed somewhat toward the mission's completion. Those ones that just enter the mission and never budge from the spawn point are nothing more than leeches and I would find a new group and let them sit.

What ever reason/excuse you had it would be nice if you told your group you had to go,,,, and not just sit there farming xp at their cost and a free 1000xp mission finish!!!

plain rude.

Edit = DZA, if they were dissconected their name goes grey,, if still red they are still there and freeloading. Things happen and leaving a mission might have a good reason but not telling the group is still plain rude.

Ps; DZA,, think you shoud read This Post as its something you need to think about ,, thank you.

RE: Mission Sitters

What I try to do to not have this happen to me is

1. Make sure everyone responds when I ask if they are ready. If not, I give them a short while and then kick them. If they can't be bothered to answer a simple question like that I don't feel they will be contributing to my mission experience.

2. When the mission starts I make sure everyone comes along. If someone just stands at the start and does not respond I'll zone back to the outpost and kick them.

If someone has to leave in the middle of the mission, fine. But I still think it's pretty poor conduct. I mean, itäs hardly a surprise that you are going to eat dinner or watch a movie, so why did you join the party in the first place?

RE: Mission Sitters

I have to chime in here. IM much like the last poster, if I am the leader and we start a mission and someones hangs back I immediatley go back and boot them.

Also, if you know dinner is coming or your mom is coming home (for those that it applies too) or you have to go walk the dog etc... Why join up in the 1st place, most people know missions take about 1 hr on average, if you dont have that kind of time DONT JOIN THE GROUP... Its just plain rude. The only reason you should leave mid mission is for emergency reasons. I think people give quitters to much benefit of the doubt, always saying "prolly err=7" screw that, most of the time its people just leaving and not wanting to hear the party get mad at them.

I really wish anet had some sort of color system for that. If you get error msgs or disconnect your party bar goes blue all other times (ie: leave your party) it goes grey. This would tell us right away if the guy quit or had a legit problem. I just find it hard to believe that everytime I get in a pug for a mission at least one person has err7. Its just not possible.

RE: Mission Sitters

Well, I have a problem with my African Connections, and sometimes get booted of the network... That in itself is embarrasing, but unavoidable.

A prime example was (with henchies though...) as I smacked the Drake in Borlis Pass, the final death defying blow, eveything blocked. And all you see, is everybody standing around, looking bored... Even with the enemy glaring down their eyes...

And next moment, poof. "You have been disconcerted". Here is the beauty though... I did get the bonus and the XPs for it, but I lost all the goodies... :(

I thus try to use henchies most of the time, or just join for fun, with the players knowing that I might get thrown...

Afker's

It really does stink when you have people that are afk in missions and such ecspecially when its a rather difficult one. I mean.. usually when I know it's around dinner time or I know that I'll have to go somewhere soon, I don't go on missions with ppl instead I farm or I level up by myself with henchies.

RE: Mission Sitters

I never have, nor do I think that I will ever "mission sit" without express permission from the group leader.

That being said, i have a 3 year old and a newborn. Sometimes I dont get a chance to scream why I am AFK. I just hope that people will understand.

And once again: I *really* appreciate your well thought and mature post! ^^

And for the record, if you "disconnect" your character will leave the group, sitters stay in the group and make other people do the mission for them.

RE: Mission Sitters

I really dont have a problem with people who have been playing and helping out have to suddenly leave. Things come up, and real life usually overrides gamelife. That being said, it does bother me when people tell me they have to leave to eat dinner or something like that. Why start the Mission if you know dinner is a few minutes away?

The ones who go AFK immediatley, I just rezone if I am leader, or reccomend it if I am not.

I dont mind carrying someone thru a mission for a legitimate reason, but the ones you know are doing it on purpose..... I feel like I would rather quit and restart sometimes and not let them get the free ride.

Oh, they do.

I normally farm while they are awake and do missions when they're asleep. Needless to say its taken me 2.5 months now to get to thunderhead keep, but im filthy rich.

RE: Mission Sitters

Yeah usually if you are disconnected you leave entirely. So that's not what we're complaining about at all.

And of course if there is a legitamate reason for afk I am not angry.. actually I rarely get angry lol. I think most people are just talking about the people that know they are getting ready to have to go somewhere or eat dinner or whatever and go afk. You know you had to have known that you were going to do something I would hope anyway.

I guess the point is when people group with you they are counting on the fact that your with them for the long haul. most of these missions are hard enough without having to do it with less and less people. I always thought it'd be cool if someone disconnected by accident though that they could give you a replacement henchie or something. ^^

Seems like we have alot in common lol... yeah I feel u. but it is nice having all those items and gold right? Thunderhead keep is a pretty stinky mission wish you luck on that, I know once I got by it I was like I'm glad I never have to come here again! lol

RE: Mission Sitters

Ok, so as an ammendment to what I have typed earlier, I have to admit that I did something really stupid...
Instead of sticking to Tyria, I got a quest and ended up in Cryta... Hmmm.... Nice, except that I was a level 14 at the time. So the first section wasn't too bad, going up to the first city. But then I looked at the Henchies, and realized that there is one huge bugger, that looks like a Charr... (Cannot recall the name...)
And all of the henchies were level 20? What the heck?
So, fatalistic that I was, I threw myself into the flowing quest, and did the missions as they happened... Got Toasted uncountable times, and the henchies had to revive me time after time, but somehow I made it...
Until I got to the rooftops misison. What I didn't realize is that this is a "shared" misssion, where you actually get pitted in with two or three other players... So here are two players, each with henchies, all level 20, and me, the idiot axe slinger, level 14 with 7 level 20 henchies...
So, rather than quiting at that time, I stuck it out, seeing as my henchies seemed to be doing ok to drag me along. Rather than deprive the other two players of 7.01 extra hands, I ended up dead half the time, depriving them of only .99 hands...
And lo and behold, the mission was succesfull...
Thats when I decided to revisit these mission later when my mousehand is much faster.... So I did one more solo quest, got trashed time and time again by level 24 baddies... Eventually crawled into some squeare to complete the quest, at a -60% penalty, and got the XPs...
But, I got to level 15, and made about 1.9 Platinum in the process, as well as learning a dear lesson... :)
I therefore have to offcially apologize to the other two (unknown) players, as I did not know what I was letting myself into...
Oh well, live and learn...
