newnet + pl + ping

I've been using UTComp 1.6a since it came out. I live in WA and my server is in Chicago so newnet has been just great. I ping around 60.

Well Peer1 in Chicago has been having some problems and it's the reason why so many folks are seeing packet loss to the Chicago servers. And it seems that the farther away you are, the worse it is.

My question is how (and if) this relates to newnet at all. Specifically, are the ill-effects of packet loss in any way exagerrated with newnet enabled specifcally with a ping like mine?

I ask this because I play folks who live alot closer with half my ping. It never mattered before the Peer1 problems. But now, I feel that I am getting enough dud shots that I just dont want to play in Chicago any more. And yet my buddy with half my ping (but also pl) isn't feeling it as badly.

So is this a case where I really see the effects worse or is it just bothering me more? I open to either explanation. Thanks.

EDIT: I just re-read RaffiB's article and I think I can speak with more confidence now. Tell me if you agree or disagree but here is my chain of thought:

1) Newnet makes adjustments which is relative to my ping. Higher the ping, the more is adjusted.

2) Packet loss causes errors between the perception I have on my local machine versus the server.

Conclusion: The higher the adjustment (i.e. ping) the more error there is when you have pl. This means that I would in fact be affected worse than a lower pinger given equal packet loss. So while newnet is AWESOME in good conditions, an environment with higher pl can be very frustrating.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it ;)
