Also, it's obviously not done. I'll be back.

The Skirmisher idea is loosely based off of the Hoplite. Original battle tactics for Hoplite armies basically involved long lines of heavily armored infantry smashing into each other until one line broke. Unfortunately, Spears were not the melee weapon of choice, but we're gonna take a few liberties here and make them melee weapons to boot, as well as throwing. This class will obviously go well with the Warrior class. I definitely want it to be a tanker. (A big problem I see is warriors using Spear Mastery and going for strength. I want to let that be possible, but I want primary Skirmishers too, so help me with the \"Shock\" attribute. Or whatever else you can think of as primary)

The idea was to have a melee attack character with lots of spammable ranged skills. Not a warrior you could safely blind and ignore. A key point in this class is to know where melee range begins and ends, as many of the skills will change depending on the range of combatants (And thrown skills cannot be used against melee range enemies?)

Base armor is 80 armor. Skirmishers will have base 20 energy with a +4 regen. I believe that a good armor could give them up to 25 energy, but no more. (Hmm.. maybe a 70 AL armor with +2 energy regen? It would be cool, but I can't think of a way to stop them from using a single piece of the higher regen armor.)


Please note that anything in grey text and parenthesis I'm asking YOU about. Balance on skills and attributes and other such things.

Attributes
Primary: Shock. Each point in Shock decreases the activation time of Attack skills by 1.5% and increases attack speed by 1% (Seems unbalanced..but this way, I can make Spear Mastery more useful to have in Shock. Yes, this means that attack skills actually perform 2.5% faster for each point, so at 16 attribute you'd attack 16% faster, unless using a skill, in which you'd attack, for the duration of that skill, 40% faster. You'll notice that many attacks take twice as long to perform. This is my idea and works in the sense that you're sacrificing an additional regular attack for the skill to be used. Of course, if you have high Shock, they don't take much time still, right?)


----------------------------------- Here's a question. At this point, Discord could not be useful for a primary Skirmisher, unless he could drop another statistic. Should we make the Shock attribute an optional shield req, or should we allow two handed spears? or maaaaybe someone has a better attribute idea? Maybe? SKILL NAME, ENERGY COST, RECHARGE TIME, ACTIVATION TIME: SKILL DESCRIPTION (Comments)

Shock Skills:
Terror Stance, 15E,60S: Stance For 2-10 seconds your attacks drain Adrenaline and 1 energy.

Crushing Charge,10E,45S: Stance For 3-8 seconds you move 33% faster. When you get in melee range of a foe, Crushing Charge ends and that foe is knocked down.

Impact,5E,15S: Attack If this attack hits an attacking foe they are interrupted, and take +5-50 damage.

Penetrating Throw, 10E, 10S: Spear Toss{attack} If this attack hits, you strike for +5-35 damage. This attack has 20% armor penetration.


Savage Stab, 15E, 15S: Spear Attack If this attack hits, target foes action is interrupted. If that foe was casting a spell, they become dazed for 1-5seconds.(Pancake of Doom suggested, Crazytreeboy modified. I liked PoD's idea of doing something a bit different with the Savage Stab. So this is a high cost interrupt with a good chance of short dazing. Concussion shot is very similar, but it's much higher energy (and lasts even much longer))

Ferocious attack,5E,10s Attack If this attack hits, you strike for +4-26 damage and gain 2-10energy, This attack takes twice as long to perform.

Onslaught,5E,10S Stance for 2-7 seconds your attacks deal 25% more damage and you lose 25% armor


Discipline Skills:
Barbed Defense,15E,30S: Stance For 3-12 seconds you and all adjacent allies gain a 50% chance to block melee attacks. Whenever an attack is blocked in this way, you deal 1-12 damage to the attacking foe.

Cunning Stance,5E,30S: Stance For 5-20 Whenever a foe misses you in combat, you deal +2-24 damage on your next attack against them.

Balanced Throw,5E,3S: Spear Toss{attack} If this attack hits, you strike for +1-18 damage. This attack has 50% more range.

Calculating Pause,5E,5S,: Skill Your next attack costs 15 less energy but takes twice as long to perform.

Set,5E,15S: Skill If you're weilding a spear, the next opponent who is using a speed boost and moves into melee range takes 12-65 damage and is weakened for 2-16seconds. This skill expires in 8 seconds. (If someone is charging you, you set your spear in the ground and impale them. Used most often against calvary and stuff, but I figure it can work in GW,right? Based somewhat off of Riposte)

Hook,5E,15S: Spear Attack Target foe is knocked down. If that foe was moving, this attack does+2-25 damage. This attack takes twice as long to perform.(Maybe 10 energy?)

Confident Attack,5e,8S: Attack If this attack hits, it deals only 3-20damage and you gain 4-10 energy. If this attack misses, you end your stance and this skill takes an additional +25-15 to recharge.

Defensive Blow,5E,3S, 1/2S: If this attack hits, you deal 85%-65% less damage, and the next attack from that target is blocked. (more synergy. This goes well with cunning stance (I love cunning stance))

Inertial Guidance,15E,30S: Stance For 8-23 seconds all spear toss attacks deal an extra 1% damage for every 3 feet they travel. (I love making synergy, mix this with a Balanced Throw at high range, and you get a nice smack of damage. IN ADDITION: This skill, at 12 attribute, with 4 energy regen, give a damage bonus to approximately SIX(6) Spear Toss attacks@5 energy each)

Plotted Attack,5E,15S Skill If your next attack is a skill, it recharges twice as quickly. (50% failure chance with discipline 7 or less)

5 senses {E},10E,25S Stance For 10-22 seconds each attack that misses reduces your chance to miss by a cumulative 5% while in this stance (this stacks chances to hit with no limit. This works on both evading and blocking foes as well as blindness.)


Spear Mastery Skills:
Opening Strike,5E,20S: Spear Toss{attack} If this attack hits a foe with more than 90%-60% life, you strike for +10-65 damage. (probably overpowered)

Empowered Toss,10E,10S: Spear Toss{attack} If this attack hits, it has 10% armor penetration. If struck foe is moving, they are knocked down and suffer +2-24 damage.

Impaling Strike,10E,20S: Spear Attack If this attack hits, you strike for +10-40 damage and target foe suffers from Deep Wound and Bleeding for 2-12seconds. This attack takes twice as long to perform.

Hasty Throw,5E,0S: Spear Toss{attack} If it hits, this attack strikes for +2-25damage and you gain 0-3energy. This attack has a 35% chance to miss. (Talk about your spam attacks...)

Pin,10E,15S: Spear Attack If this attack hits, target foe is crippled for 3-18 seconds, this attack deals only 3-16 damage. (Think the back end of the spear meeting with your foot. Ow.)

Twisting Spear,5E,5S: Spear Attack This attack cannot be evaded or blocked. If this attack hits it strikes for +3-30 damage and target foe stuffers from bleeding for 1-8seconds. This attack takes twice as long to perform.

Hailing Throw,15E,0S: Spear Toss{attack} You throw two spears at target foe and up to 1-3 nearby foes. These have +25% range but strike for 25% less damage. This skill takes twice as long to perform(Please note that this will NOT function with preparations 'sides apply poison. Pancake of Doom suggested, CrazyTreeBoy modified)

Close Throw,5E,2S: Spear Toss{attack} If this attack hits, you strike for +15-45damage. This attack deals 1% less damage for every foot it travels. (Aggro bubble is about 100 feet, right?)

Drilling Throw,10E,10S: Spear Toss{attack} If this attack hits, it deals +4-36damage and has 8%-20%Armor Penetration. This attack takes twice as long to perform.





Discord Skills
Haha. I had something for this. I can't remember anything ATM. Feel free to suggest a different secondary attribute. Since right now you already have a shield req and a weapon req... skill points are fairly spread out. I'm debating the choice of making this a +energy req or another shield req, or adding two handed spears.

yeha man looks nice but 2 be honost i think its a bith uber you can alot off damage not 2 mention fast iff you add +4 in shock *head+super rune* i think you should weaken it a bith the ranger has not the armor 2 tank, teh necro has 2 low energy for his skillz, ele very weak armor, mesmer not much of direct damage, war cant heal himself proper. c every class has a weakness but yours is showin none not even a bith off weakness make it a bith weaker and ill youve got another skirmisher


i would use adrenaline for the attacks but i would take energy for the stances both switchin from med-->high nergy/adrenaline use then you would reali get a good build youve got another skirmisher

Well, they have no anti hex, no interrupts, and no self heal.

I tried to calculate it like this. 16 points in Strength essentially gives about 30% damage increase. 16 points in Shock gives 'bout 25% damage increase, which can go up to nearly 50% if you use lots of attack skills. Of course, attack skills use energy.

What's really going to be a key balance point, I think, is energy. I think the skirmisher will have 2 energy regen, and likey have less energy than even a warrior. 25 Max with the best armor, I think. If we then give them some balanced energy management skills, we can keep the damage balance around +30%, which would be about the same as a warrior. OR we could give them down to, say, 20 max energy. With a higher +4 regen with energy, they could consistently do high damage, but they couldn't open up with 3 massive attacks. Personally, I think that while you could Spike with this class, a ranger or elementalist would do it better. Especially if you severely limited the energy but gave high regen.

Another option to control the damage balance, is Adrenaline use instead of energy. Up until now, that's the sole domain of the Warrior, and I didnt' want to break into it too quickly. Especially since the classes would overlap that much more. Something I definitely don't want.

But your'e right about that attack speed... It probably is too much, but I'm struggling to find a good primary attribute that people would choose over strength if they wanted to use spears.

Nice suggestion, well thought through. But u are right in that the energy needs to be limited in some way or it will become über-dmg-dealer.

But another way to do it might be to think that if he is to toss/throw his spear, where will he gain a new one from? I know that rangers do it with arrows, and it does seem kinda unrealistic, but no1 carries that many spears. Also maybe if he does some kind of attack/uses a skill with his spear where there is just a small penetration, maybe there should be like a secondary attack where he tears it out of the opponent.
Some kind of attack with no recharge and maybe one energy/adrenaline cost.

Also if he dont pull it out/throw it he should not just have a new right away.

Here some:

Dual Swing: Spear toss: You swing two spears at target foe and foes in target foes area. These have twice the normal range but strike for 25% less damage.

Savage Jab: Spear attack: Target foe's action is interupted and is dazed for 4-8 seconds.

Explosive Spear(elite): You throw a burning spear which strikes for an additional 10-45 damage and target foe and all foes in that area are struck for burning for 2-6 seconds and are knocked down.

Well I might have an idea... have you ever watched "shaman king"? If so then what about the attack that Lenny uses called "Rapid Tempo", you could probably make a skill like it and call it:

Rapid Strike:15e,24S (Spear Mastery)For 4-9 seconds you attack 36% faster and strike for +8-20 more damage, the target foe is knocked down and suffers from deep wound for 3-6 seconds, and all adjacent foes receive 8-20 damage.
