Fluid Dodging

First post on Game AMP yay! Anyways after reading the articles about UT2004 and becoming a better player. I've found out that I'm a low 2 and a high 1 on the tiers and would like to improve.

I've started to found why I'm getting my butt handed to me over and over again. The first is I can't fluidly dodge. Where I see some players can just natraully strafe and dodge at the same time I have to jam down onto the strafe button to do so.

I've set my Double-click time to 1 but still I have to stop moving as soon as I try to dodge. Any help for me be appreciated!

RE: Fluid Dodging

My dodge time is set to .5 which is pretty high. But that means if I press left or right and then press the same button again, within .5 seconds I will dodge.

Keep reading the articles and keep practicing. The only way you're going to get fluid is by doing it alot. Just practice running (holding) forward or back and dodging left or right.

let me know how things are going

I have the same problem. I'd say I was around tier 3, but I still havn't handled the art of dodging. Although being chased by a tank when you're on foot spurs you to do great deeds.

ROFL!!! very true...
I have no clue what my times are set at, as i haven't changed them from default, and am on the wrong computer so i can't find out, but practice really helps. I started out not dodging, and have moved to dodging a lot. I'd rate myself about a 6 or 7 of 10. What's your ureal ID, so i could jump on and help sometime. I'm not bad at DM, as my clan specializes in long range sniping.

Keep practicing!

RE: Fluid Dodging

The easiest way to dodge smoothly is to follow the following steps...

1. Press and hold the forward movement key.
2. Rotate approximately 56.3 degrees to either the left or right.
3. If you rotated left, you should dodge using the right movement key. If you rotated right, you should dodge using the left movement key.
4. Immediately rotate back to the direction you were facing in step 1.

I hope that helps :)

EDIT: Btw, my Dodge double click time is set to 0.18. I have it set so low for 2 reasons...

1. I accidentally dodge too often if it is over 0.22
2. It makes performing more complex tricks easier

RE: Fluid Dodging

I would say the key to dodging fire is being able to perform a running Dodge Jump starting with any movement key. The instructions I listed in my first post are only for performing a running Dodge while holding the forward key down. It is especially important to be able to Dodge backward in this manner so you can also use the SG for protection.

If you having difficulty performing dodges in the middle of a firefight, you may want to consider rotating your keyboard to a different angle. When I play, my keyboard is rotated about 5 degrees clockwise relative to the edge of my desk. This leaves my fingers in a more natural position around the movement keys.

I think that I once shot down rocket launcher bullets once with a shock combo, although it could of course been the old lag kicking in. It saved me though!

It Takes Time

Hey Guys,

I thought I'd never be able to get the dodging thing down, but lemme tell ya, practice does make perfect. I have my "dodge double-click" set at .9 and it works pretty sweet. Now that my fingers have gotten the hang of it, it's almost instinctual now and I can fly across the map!!

I concur with the angling of the keyboard. I have mine at a 10 degree, counter-clockwise angle, so my fingers flow naturally with the keys.

Although I have to say the Saitek Gamer's Keyboard does make my gaming experience a whole lot better. The key strokes are super smooth and cuz I like to frag in the dark, the blue underlight is a bonus :D

To be honest, fancy keyboards won't improve your game. I use a regular 20 buck logitech elite and it's served me for over a year of competitive play.

Just practice.

Xfire me sometime @ moyer and I'll give you some help.

also, regular keyboards sort of wearout, but its not anything too serious. i'd go with a logitech or microsoft that feels the best when u buy it.

I've had my Saitek Gamer's board for over 8 months now and it's still as smooth as the day it came out of the box. Yes, it's a little more pricey than your generics, but I'm a girl...I like the perty light. :P

Seriously, it's the best board I've owned since I've been gaming and I've been that for a long time.

RE: Fluid Dodging

well i find (unless sum1 has alredy noted this) tht i like to double dodge wiv a jump on the end its awsome for gaining ground and u can move fast 2 the side so if ther is a shock core flyin towards u can get outa the way pretty quick. my weakness in a game is i cant think quik n i hav a 1 track mind. i mite see a bullet flyin towards me but i still move into the way for sum reason...
