| UTV more broken than ever :( |
|
|
|
Hi, I was very happy to see that 1.4 finally has been released. Haven't had any major problems with beta3 since it came and initial testing (i.e. me goofing around) says 1.4 is good. :)
But! UTV is now even more broken than in 1.3b. This is because UTComp does not include the proper SeeAll code *and* has changed the playercontroller name so that Fnordias 1.3b workaround (in UTV2004S4) no longer detects it.
Lotus, if there has been any problem in communications (you got the UTV builds right?) please let me know. Me and the scnadi community really needs this fixed.
Overall a very good job though, many thanks to the UTcomp team!

Updated to 1.4a to fix this, renamed 1 playercontroller class but forgot the second.

Very nice! Tried it earlier and it works just fine. If I may be a little ungrateful and ask, why didn't you update the internal UTV code in UTComp? Having to convince server admins to add another mutator is a royal pain, not to mention nearly impossible...
But still, at least it works and that is a good thing. Thanks!

Copied directly from my post on unrealnorth:
The problem with UTV2004S and UTComp is that due to UTComp replacing some classes, (playercontroller, I beleive... but I'm not sure about this one. I mostly do UTComp design/testing, not programming) it just cannot work on its own.
There are two workarounds around this, the first is to integrate the UTV2004S code directly into UTComp, which is something we did in the past. However, the problem with that is that new versions of UTV2004S would automatically break compatibility, unless we synced new UTComp releases with new UTV2004S releases. This is just not possible.
The other option, which is the option currently used, is UTV detecting that UTComp is running, and making its code work "on top" of our player controller. This has worked well, but since 1.4 was basically a full rewrite of the UTComp code, (at least 80% new code) the class names had all changed, and therefore UTV could not detect UTComp properly. We reverted some class names back to their 1.3 values in 1.4a to fix this. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yes, I read that, thanks for taking the time to answer there as well... I'm well aware of the technicalities and would not have any objections if UTV was still in a state of flux. But it isn't, there has been no changes to the code since 3236. While the current solution works it isn't very easy for those of us who try to get admins to configure match servers correctly. In that way, including the UTV code in UTComp would go ways towards making UTV accesible to more people.
But as long as it works and I don't want to whine more than necessary, I'll shut up.
Once again, good job!

the only way it'd work (it seems) is if UTV was never updated anymore...
is that the case?

I wouldn't expect the UTV2004S code to change much in the future (although Fnordia would be the authority on that). It works now. And that is the part that concerns UTComp.
