I've saw others report this on here but i dunno what they did for it to stop but whenever i pull up the COH Updater it says Unknown message from patchserver: 20 and I've restarted my computer but nothing is working
Also in COH the personal info pictures are looking very funky then normal but hopefully its a gitch that will be fixed

This happened to me yesterday, but I just tried the CoH Updater and it is working fine now.

I started up the CoV updater, and it works, so if you have that, try it. If not.....I'll cry for you...as I laugh :P

True, but since I am starting up the CoV updater, the villain in me came out. The hero side of me is crying that you guys can't play. But in true honesty, you guys can't start up CoH....man, that really does suck.

It's happened to me as well. And it seems to be rampant on the main boards as well. The only thing I can think of is that the patch server keeps being put under heavy stress. But oddly enough, after 5 attempts it loads up just fine for me.

Thsi has been happening on and off to me the last few days on my main PC but after 2-4 tries it goes away. On thsi PC it's not working I still keep getting teh patchserver 20 message

This is happening to me as well, best thing to do is just keep trying. It seems to work after several attempts. Makes me curious as to whether this could have anything to do with an I7 PreDownload.

Well, guys, the sad news is that there isn't a 100% fix for this issue yet. The trouble is definitely on the server side, but no one has come up with a way that corrects the problem for every player. The only thing that I can suggest is that you continually try to start the game. It's worked for me so far...Knock on wood.

It's just another memory leak. This time, it leaves a remnant that confuses the updater. Just do anything at all that clears away the remnant and you can load the game.
I do it with Adaware, which I ought to run more often anyway. It works every time.

I got it once, but tried again and poof... gone. It did bother me for a sec. though.
Sometimes I'm just too nice... need to let those people who don't listen to just die :)

The problem seems to be back today for many folks, myself included. I found this fix to help me, whixh bypasses the updater altogether:
Make a new shortcut (on your desktop or somewhere) to the CoH client (cityofheroes.exe), not the updater like you normally use. Right click on the shortcut, go to properties/shortcut and change the value from something like
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe"
to
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project "coh"
This starts up the client without the updater, so you shouldn't use it forever, as future patches will never get downloaded, etc., so I'm sure it will goof something up. This should be considered a temporary fix only.

I also have had this problem. It lasted a couple of days then it stopped on its own. Dunno why tho.

It's looks likne this isin't just my problem.
I've got my copy of CoH today. I install, bla, bla bla. Ok, i have click on the CohUpdater Icon...Now, i see this:
And i wait......wait....and wait. And all I always see is "connecting".... I tryied to do the trick with shortcrout but I don't now exacly..what I should do...I make a shortcrout, RMB, and..where I should make this "project coh"?
I have waiting so long to play CoH and now I can't because of some damn Updater....Help!
P.S
Sorry for my english but I'm from Poland so I do what i can;] Oh yeah, Offcorse I have the European Version of Coh

Ok, all updated, tutorial done. But now I can connect to the main server ( connection lost- i new it...)
And somwhere i have read that one update and we can run the game from normal icon...Em...I can't. It always says to run the Updater...And it is to long to wait when it trying to connect...

I have bypassed the Updater with the "-project "coh" " trick but when after login I can't log on the server and I see : "CanotLogDBServer"- emm- i think that was something like this...
I have tryed everything....
