OMG it gets even better 

More and more factions stuffs keeps popping out at me!

First off, (everyone knows already) but Gaile Gray is so nice. She was a wonderful hostess. We showed up for the event and after getting our passes walked up the stairs to the main party. There was a station of computers set up for us to try out the game (extended PvP) section. Of the people that came, we divided into two groups and went at it. The environments are still blowing me away. Unfortunantly my team got wasted (probably due to me ;p), but it was fun. After that we tried a group mission. There was a lot to fight.

PvP 1v1 is a lot of fun. You get pitted in a seperate map and go at it. The asssassins did do a good job at carving people up.

~Guild storage (as mentioned in recent Gaile Talk) is not up yet.
~Storage size is still the same as is inventory space.
~The assassins still run all the time (this thing is still in Betta).
~There were no Superior Runes of Holding that I saw.
~Didn't see anything about Saphires and Rubies

The map seems small, but it is so condensed with cities (forgot to take a picture of that...). It has a lot of content to say the least.

Did not have time to write down everything from all classes, but necro being my favorite class, here are the new skills for Chapter 2:

Chapter 2: Factions will blow you away! PvE is going to be awesome, as is PvP. We were only privlidged to see PvP in more depth, the areas and scenery is just amazing! You will have to excuse some parts (I couldn't make out my handwritting).


BLOOD:

Blood Bond
Enchantment Spell. For 12 seconds, target other alley gains +2 health regeneration and you fuffer -2 health degeneration.
Mana Cost: 5
Cast Time: 1
Recharge: 2

Jaundiced Gaze
Spell. Sacrifice 10% health. If target foe has more health than you, you steal up to 20 health. Otherwise, you deal 29 damage.
Mana Cost: 10
Cast Time: 1
Recharge: 2

Lifebare Strike
Spell. Target foe takes 29 shadow damage. If that foe's health is above 50%, you steal up to 29 health.
Mana Cost: 10
Cast Time: 2
Recharge: 8

Whilsts (<--not spelled correct) Fervor
Enchantment (Elite). Spells cost -7 energy to cast, but you sacrifice (Unsure)-->[15-30%] health each time you cast a spell.
Mana Cost: 3
Cast Time: 1
Recharge: 30

CURSES:

Reckless Haste
Hex Spell. For 19 seconds, target foe and all adjacent foes are hexed, they attack 25% faster, but have a 48% chance to miss with attacks.
Mana Cost: 10
Cast Time: 2
Recharge: 15

Shivers of Dread
Hex Spell. for 38 seconds, whenever target foe is struck for cold damage while using a skill, that foe is interupted, and you lose [5](<--unsure also) energy and Shivers of Dread ends.

Well of Weariness
Spell. Exploit target corpse to create a Well of Weariness for 52 seconds. Enemies within the Well of Weariness suffer -1 energy degeneration.
Mana Cost: 10
Cast Time: 1
Recharge: 5

Order of Apostasy
Enchantment Spell (Elite). Whenever a party member hits a foe, that foe loses one enchantment. For every Monk enchantment removed, you lose 11% health.
Mana Cost: 25
Cast Time: 2

DEATH MAGIC:

Animate Vampiric Horror
Spell. Exploit nearest target corpse to animate a level 2 Vampire Horror you control deals damage and you gain the same amount of health.
Mana Cost: 25
Cast Time: 3

Taste of Pain
Spell. If target foe is below 20% health, you gain 60 health.
Mana Cost: 5

First, the party was held at the Sci-Fi Museum in the Experience Music Project located in downtown Seattle. It's a nice place, I think one of these days I'll go back to explore it a bit more.

The party was upstairs in a VIP section. There was food and drink for everyone (I'd estimate probably 300 or so folks attended). There was a live band called "Hells Belles" - a all women AC/DC cover band. They rocked pretty hard.

Anyway, after we got checked in, we got to meet Gaile Gray and Isaih Cartwright. There was a total of 12 "winners" and each brought a guest. just about everyone were GW players which was neat.

There was a small section where ANet had set up a couple of tables and arranged 8 computers in 2 rows of 4 facing each other. We divided up into two "teams" and were told we were going to preview a new "gametype".

The "gametype" was each group was handed a thick stack of cards. These cards were skill cards, 25 skills, and all 8 professions (yeah, the stack was pretty big).

Each team picked out a team of four, using the stacks of cards to build a skill bar for each team player. The 25 skills in each profession were a mix of old and new skills (mostly old) and while they normally contained some basic skills everyone uses every day, there were quite a few "missing" cards normal teams use in PvP (gale and arcane echo, for example, weren't in the stack).

Each group picked 4 players, and 4 skill bar "builds" and that faced off in a simple 4v4 arena game. Each player had to utilize the skills in his 8 skill group, he couldn't pick and choose if they didn't like how it was set up. We were also given only a few minutes to sort the cards, examine the skils, and build 4 working professions.

Then we were herded back upstairs to the computers, and played a couple of rounds. Our team won flawless victories both times btw.

So, to get more info out to you guys from what I saw of the game:

The map is at least as big as Prophecies, with at least as many towns and outposts to visit.

On the main map, there was a red/blue line that snaked through it. This line was the "faction" line, which shifts back and forth depending on how much faction your side has built up and what territories you're granted access to. We didn't see this in action, but it was visible on the map.

The graphics are standard GW fare, which means very nice. Parts of it appeared to be very "pre-searing", lush green rolling hills and colorful trees (mostly pinks (think cherry blossoms) and green. There was also some snowy areas we got to play in a bit later.

There was one interesting tidbit - I saw a "dev arena 1v1" pvp map. I don't know if this will actually be int he final game, but at least in the build we had, there was yes, an area where you could go fight mano on mano.

I didn't get to spend a lot of time playing the game, after a couple of rounds of 4v4 the band started up and you couldn't hear yourself think. I did watch some of the folks play a sample mission that involved escorting a convoy of giant turtles and their babies to some destination. The giant turtles had massive cannons strapped to their backs. Some of the enemy mosnters they fought were pretty intimidating. I can't tell you much else, hopefully someone that did get a chance to play can provide more details.

At the end we all got nice GW t-shirts.

It was a pretty cool time, all in all.

So thanks to Gaile, and the rest of the folks for inviting us, I know I had a good time, and I think everyone else did too.

We saw one of the dev team members "move" the faction line around to show how it acts. If you've ever playing civilization IV, it reacts much like a particular player's "influence" as it invades and retreats based on how much faction your side has gained.

But what was interesting to note - towns could be behind enemy lines and cut off, much like Bastone in WW2. (pure speculation here) I would imagine that in order to retake cities, either a PvP or PvE alliance must hold it, or mount attacks to retake it. I'm guessing a PvP challenge.

One of the dev team members made a comment that PPvE would have a MAJOR influence on the faction line, while PvP play would be a factor, but not a deciding one. Like it or not, most people play GW via PvE, not PvP, and the dev team needs to cater to that style of play. It is interesting how they are attempting to incorporate some PvP aspects to "draw" more PvE players into that aspect of the game.

Again, most of this is simply empirical, without seeing the faction "in action" it's hard to say how the overall mechanics will play out.

A Q&A with Gaile Gray

A: www.guildwars.com will be updated at noon on the 10th with accurate information on the Collector's Edition. Gaile spoke about the "cloth map" debacle which happened with Prophecies... how many retailers published that a cloth map would be included even though it never was promised by ANet. Get the info from guildwars.com today at noon.

Q: Rejoining an instance... is it coming soon?

A: Here's a direct quote: "Rejoins are coming". She said it twice, and emphatically. (ok she may have said "reconnects" but you get the idea) But it's got to be done carefully to prevent abuse. It has to be a long enough window to give people the ability to reconnect their modems, but short enough to prevent people from popping in and out arbitrarily. She says that there will be ZERO CHANCE of adjusting your skillbar or inventory between the time you get disconnected and the time you rejoin... this isn't what it'll be for.

Q: PvE Rewards. We want them. What's the deal?

A: She realizes that it's easy to think that they value PvP more when they go give giant cash rewards for PvP. But she assures us that the PvE rewards in Factions will not dissapoint. They've put a lot of thought into them and she seemed very excited about some of the PvE reward ideas that they've got floating around the office. She used the analogy that PvE in Prophecies was dinner... PvE in Factions will be the desert! No solid information or answers were given, naturally, but she conveyed a strong sense of excitement.

Q: Going to LA must be a freaky experience, huh?

A: Most of the abuse she takes there is just water off of a duck's back. A couple times, she's had a GM eject someone for being totally rude, but she is more frustrated by people being rude to other players than she is by people being rude to her. Her job naturally puts her in a position to take a lot of abuse, and she's good at zoning it out, but she can't stand it when players are abusive of other players.

She thinks that Malhavoc Adhamar is teh bomb. She adores him and is grateful for his work. There are times that she knows she's got to go ingame and speak, and knows that Mal isn't going to be there, and she feels terrible.

Q: Elitism in PvP environments; not so much of a "show your rank" thing, but more GvG related... if you're not a pro, you're often passed over and called a noob.

A: Gaile seemed to think that perhaps shorter seasons would be the ticket here. They all agreed that the half-life of a guild is much less than 90 days, and if the GvG seasons were shorter, they'd be more in tune with how competitive guilds work. She realizes that the "winning attitude" or "competitive spirit" that is inherent to pvp games makes it hard to avoid some kind of elitism, but they want to do what they can to stem it.

Q: Is the frog here tonight?

A: The frog is probably drunk off of egg nog and sleeping it off at home. I think it's cute that Gaile refuses to break the "fourth wall" even in person and still refers to the Frog as a real creature.

Q: More holiday events in the future?

A: When they ship Factions, they seriously want to start the promised six-month rotation, with a new chapter every six months. That being said, they will not prioritize working on a holiday event over working on a new chapter. They love doing the holidays (Gaile especially loved the Halloween event), and would like to do more, but they will always prioritize working on new chapters' content first. Gaile wants the next holiday to be one that is unique to Tyria/Cantha; one that doesn't exist in the real world. She'd like to do something like the Cherry Blossom festival maybe.

Q: We'd like to see what classes our guildmates/friends are and where they're at/what they're doing in the Guild roster and Friends list.

A: This is something that they want to work on, but it's a bit prohibitive from a coding standpoint. It would require a LOT of network traffic, as the lists are updated. How often would they update? Once a minute? Once an hour like Guild ratings do? They're working on it and want to add it, but it's just kind of hard to realize.

Q: What happened to ingame messaging? It was here in the beta...

A: This (the ability to leave an ICQ-like message for someone who was offline) was a feature that they had planned to put in, and almost had ready and polished, but for whatever practical reason, it was left out. Gaile didn't know exactly why, and nobody was on hand to ask. She seemed to encourage use of the Guild Announcement to leave messages for others, but realizes that only officers/leaders can do that. I told her that our guild announcement is mostly static, having links to our web page and forums and TS server, and she frowned. She said that that's not what it should be used for. It's a bit unavoidable, though, unless we could have stuff like that in the guild roster too... *wink*

Q: Just how cool is that Queen Alien in the cage back there?

A: ZOMG SOOOO SUPER COOL!!! It's freaking AWESOME!! I wish they had a motion sensor that would make it seem like the airlock is opening when people get near it!! I <3 teh alien queenzor!! (hehehe)

Q: What does a PvE guild have to do to be Guild of the Week? (this question asked to an ANet employee named Jason, who writes the Guild of the Weeks)

A: Submit a nomination. Guild of the Week is not pvp-only. All you have to do is submit a nomination and tell us how your guild contributes to the community, what it's accomplishments are, and other reasons that set it apart from the everyday average guild.

Q: Congrats on the purple text!

A: Gaile Gray is a master strategist. Three months ago, she dropped a hint that GM text was hard to see. She didn't pursue it further, really, just the casual nudge here and there. By golly, they approached her recently:

so..how will this territory control go?

is it possible to just wonder around and see an enemy faction player and beat them up? or its a MUST to form a team of 8 to fight for a city/territory?

im just getting a bit tired of this PRESSURE that we HAVE TO get teams of 8 to achieve anything serious...lone work is not really in focus and i think that kills a great part of the game currently....changes in Factions?

Wow. +creds! This is awesome. Thanks for the sharing all this info... *groans* And here I said I wasn't going to get Factions until all my other chars were leveled-up and infused... I won't! I won't give in! Not yet... dammit... I need to get my computer back! How am I supposed to level up if I can't play the game??? *runs in circles screaming maniacly* I want Factions!!!

Hella lot of missions = AWESOME!!! i hope they will come with a great variety, not just go and kill, go and talk...etc. Ah i just cant wait Factions!

i'm not entirely sure about this, i do know it would be suicide to go in there on your own though, let me read up =)

yeh but just attacking any random enemy player would ruin the entire game. lots of people will be new to the game and people will just go around killing all the low level charaters

edit: one swordsman you are evil (but nice) for posting this i cant wait to get factions now. cred+

hm yes possible...but still i wonder.
enemy faction people can enter that city?
how is the invasion of a city go (in order to control it), teams form up and attack? what about the defenders, what if there is no1 in town to defend, or is it played in arenas as well? what if there is not enuf people to stand against the invaders, then its easy win?
so many questions :D

i agree so i dont think they would allow that to happen i think it will be group based to decide the fate of an outpost, gaile did mention that in these battles for the outposts the teams were made up of multiple groups of 8 people, like some sort of epic battle, although im not sure if she was refering to these battles exactly

aha, that seems logical. thats for taking control of outposts.
what if enemy faction people crosses the border? no hostility, ability to kill them? then there is not much point in borders :S

you wouldnt be able to fight them anyway because when you exit an outpost you have an area created just for you.

Possibly NPC's to defend? Also that will be the challenge when forming an alliance, if you wish to hold possesion you should form an alliance with guilds that play around the clock.

maybe they should make an area by the border (like a wider border that functions as an instance) that is free for all PvP for the enemy faction people.

if no (and im sure no to my idea) what are the functions of the borders? the control goes only for towns/outposts so...hmmm :S just to have a pretty line on the map?

that sounds like a good idea but it could be troublesome for people without broadband.

aha...yeah thats true, an always-active alliance.

that means even similar faction alliances can fight each other for control, not just enemy faction? cool...let us hope there won't be an Alliance of the top 10 guilds who can never be defeated (by the same faction).

indeed, thats my guess anyway, although whether different server alliances are allowed will remain to be seen.

maybe there will be one faction line for each home distict so the actions in America wont affect the faction of Eu just to balance it out.

and International Districts would be free for all pk even in towns! :D lol jk

but one thing is for sure, home districts would be better, just like u say. why? because all those players from asia makes the loading time MUCH more and if 20 people in an alliance battle lag because of that then the asians get huge advantage. its already a problem in 4v4 arenas, now imagine it BIG scale with at least 30 people! disaster...and will be horrible for those people with slower connections.

separate the districts so americans fight with americans...of course there are asians playing on american servers but it will be better than a full-out unregulated alliance battle.
