Questions about Damage Properties and W/* Build

Sorry I got a noob question here.

What does the Fire/Cold/Earth/Lighting damage of Melee Weapon actually do?
Some people said the Cold Damage will slow down people's movement and attack. Some people said the Fire Damage will do much more damage on most monsters and players. Are they true? If so, does it mean that if I equip an Axe with Cold Damage? Will it slow down my opponents (in terms of attack speed and moving speed) in PvP? How about Fire/Earth/Lightning damage?

Another question:

From what I saw, most Warriors are W/Mo, W/E, W/R. I think it is because basically:
W/Mo can tank well in both PvP and PvE
W/E is common for its knockdown build
W/R is for fame farming by abusing the IWAY team formation
So how about W/Me and W/N?
Are W/Me and W/N strong in PvP and PvE?
Should I go for Strength or Tactic for W/Me and W/N build?

Thanks so much for your help!! Much appreciate that!

RE: Questions about Damage Properties and W/* Build

elemental damage in weapons... from what i've seen as a player the elemental damage only comes into affect with the monsters or persons armor vs that elemental type. for example rangers have armors that are +15 vs (cold/lightning/fire) at least i think its those three. Now running up to a ranger pvp with an elemental weapon is just a bad choice (all ranger armors have +30 vs elemental) but say you're weilding a Fiery dragon sword and they have the +15 vs fire, you'll be doing even less damage then if you were weilding an Icey sword with the same mods.

now an Ice Golem. im pretty sure you deal more damage with fiery weapons then physical damage weapons (piercing/slashing/bludgeoning/etc) and a Icey weapon would be useless.

Now the one place Elemental weapons are handy. *pulls a W/Mo out of the closet* look at this armor either 80, +20 vs physical or 85, + 10 vs physical. thats 100 and 95 vs physical respectively. however thats also 80 and 85 vs elemental attacks. The lower the defense rating of armor the more damage will be taken. and by switching to an elemental weapon against a warrior, you drop there armor rating down.

as far as any effects of each element, there are none. Exceptions are only when used with a skill such as Rodgerts incantation (or whatever its called) which whenever hexed foe is hit with fire damage they are set on fire for a couple seconds. or the necro skill when they are hit with cold they are interrupted (cant remember the name).

and as far as the other questions ask someone else. wouldnt feel comfortable answering those questions

(edited for typos)

With the nerf to mend ailment you'll see a lot more W/N in gvg now using plague touch to get rid of conditions, and take some pressure off of the monks.

W/Me aren't usually a popular choice because the things that might help a warrior out can be removed easily, and usually cost a lot of energy, plus there are just better options available from the other secondaries. However, you'll see a lot of warriors using mesmer seconday for elemental resistance when IDS farming.
