I havn't played as a brute yet, but they seem to be fun to play as. I was wondering what your opinions on a brute's best type of first, second, and pool power sets.

OK let me break it down for you. If i had to choose i would choose a Dark/SS brute. this is because i am a dedicated player and i will most likely get to a higher lvl then most. But if u are just starting out with the Brute archtype i would recommend a Fire/SS brute because they get a heal at a lower lvl and not as many toggles so u will not lose endurance AS fast. Not saying u wount lose endurance. (highly recommend getting the Fitness' power Stamina as fast as u can. Any way Hope i could be some help.
Fire/SS brute=Fun/easy playing
Dark/SS brute=Better PVP and More res. still pretty fun to play with.[/QUOTE]

I've currently been leveling a Stone/Energy Brute, which is tricky, but in the select situations that I put him in, he's really good.
However, this character is built around the concept of newspaper grinding ONLY. His smashing type damage is specifically designed around taking down Council robots and so forth. The energy secondary has decent defense and resistance, mez protection and a built in stealth power. Since my concept is to superspeed/stealth through missions to the end-room and complete it quickly, I didn't want to spend a pool set getting stealth.
Primary: Stone
Secondary: Energy
Pools: Fitness, Speed
Currently level 20.

TOTALLY depends on ur play style, man.
although, i have noted that Dark melee seems be the most damage dealing (at least in the beginning), plus u get that handy mini-self heal, dark consumption, and that one power that damages all around and gives a boost to acc and dam (not sure what its called). seems to be a good, diverse, powerset.
as for secondary, if u plan on being as defensible as u r powerful, may i suggest Invul?not alotta toggles, a mini-heal to compliment that of ur primary, extremely defensible.
Pool Powers: Stamina and Health are almost mandatory for ANY character. and travel power obviously ;-)
thats my two cents. my LAST two cents. amy i have them back plz? im poor

To me Invuln seems the easiest to play, most toggles are stackable and good defense.

I have a lvl 39 dark/dark brute
a lvl 15 energy melee/stone brute
a lvl 12 energy/energy brute
a lvl 21 energy melee/fire brute
all on COV
On COh I have a couple lvl 50 Tanks.
Energy melee has the most damage for punchs ect for brutes.
Stone armor has the most defense,
So if you want to be a herding killing machine take energy/stone.
The dark armor is ok but you take a ton of damge with it plus it is partical heavy which can lag your machine.
It has some cool powers like soul transfer which sucks the damge out of the enemy and gives it to you.
The energy armor is the most defensive as you will be hit less but has no heals with it so you have to take healing as a power pool.
Stone armor's draw back is that you slow way the hell down unless you have a Ken healer who can give you speed boost.
As said above it depends on how you want to play the game.
Be a classic brute who takes all the aggro and herds huge groups of bad guys, then take stone armor but be ready to be slow.
Energy armor would be next and is excellent for PVP play.
Fire would be my 3rd choice as it is not toggle heavy and
has some fun powers like consume and firey aura.
Dark would be my fourth choice as it is a lag monster and toggle heavy and you take more damage with it.
Hope that helps you out.

I have a fire/fire brute and a SS/Inv. I gotta say that the fire primary looks cooler but has longer animations like drawing out the sword each time. SS is nuts, I got my recharges and speed to the point where i actually pull off "combos" with the first few powers. The fire secondary has some good sheilds but very particle heavy, i always can tell a lag diff when using them. The fire sec heal is not as good as the invul self heal, i have 4 health on it and it gets me back to full health from about 1/4 of the way down, some of the other powers in the invulv are always on so that helps not having to hit any buttons.

Ok, thanks for the help. I decide to go with a dm/inv brute. Are there any powers that are either extrely important to these sets or powers I should skip?

Yes! i won :-)
yeah, just keep in mind that prolly r gonna wanna cut down on the amount of toggles in the invuln (ur play may be different from mine tho) and u can skip the first toggle entirely. it might be a good idea to get dull pain and slot it with recharge and heals, same for steal life in the darkness primary. the two of those recharging and available for whenever is great.
Dark consumption should take care of any remaining end problems when u get to it...
Soul Drain is great to pop right into the mobs and hit it right off the bat for a preemptive pbaoe + ACC and DAM boost
shadow maul is a very powerful attack, it has the same graphic as flurry and ive seen ppl not take it solely for that reason.
but hey- im no expert on this (giggle). play around, see what ya like, and happy hunting

BTW for all those who say the partical count it too high, all u have to do is turn it down in the options. My PC had terrible lag until i turned down the Partical count. Just thought i would throw that out there so u will base ur decision on the fact that u MIGHT get lag. ok im out

Currently, I have a lvl 33 Dark/Dark Brute which is alot of fun to play. Oddly enough.. the only time I ever have any trouble is when I team and rely on a stranger to heal me. But there again, lag is a problem when there are several people on my screen. Just say no to groups of more than 1 MM, unless you've got a system that can handle it.. which mine *should* but doesn't for some reason (even on low graphics settings).
So anyway.. I look for these types of questions too.. "Which Brute build IS IT!?one!!"
I like my Dark-Dark.. he's a blast! I wouldn't trade him for anything!
But also looking for what others consider is 'fun' so I can play around with it.. because, why play if it isn't fun?

I agree Energy/Stone armour brute is good (my brute has it ) but it does use alot of end so u need to slot it well and dont choose brimstone armour. (get rooted)

If you're a patient person, I'd reccommend Fire / Dark.
Dark armor's great at high levels (get endurance ASAP!).
I'm almost unstunnable and the fire DoT is always a plus. This build is not for beginners though. It can be very tricky at low / mid levels.

i myself play as a lv 36 dark/dark brute, and hes my wholehearted main. a thing i miss about him is good damage and disorients/knockbacks etc, i can take on hordes of Heroes in pvp with enough Enrages, so with enough dmg the dark brute is ace.
He doesnt go down very easily due to the Dark Regeneration power from dark armor, sucks about 500 hp per mob near you, takes up 50% end tho, but the range is awesome, it is a very reccomended power to get if you ask me.
So far, my only weaknesses are Knockback (dark armor has no knockback shields), and Regen scrappers. it is nearly impossible for me to get one of these guys down and bite the dirt because of my very low DPS, even with double slotted DMG enhancements in my melee powers

i run a ss/nrg brute hes alright i i breezed through the lowleves doing more 1-shots than a stalker. now when ive gotten higher 23 :-( the rikti / lost are very easy to fight. /nrg has great nrg defense and great mez protection i would recommend it
SS on the other hand is OK. it has some good attacks but nothing special, and smashing damage gets worse everty level with more enemies resisting

The reason for this is because, the invulnerability heal is a heal AND a hp increase. However, it is also MUCH slower to recharge than the fire heal is.
