ATM my screen resolution is at 1280x1024 which is the same as my monitor. i just want to know if it can go any higher or is 1280x1024 the highest it will go?.

errr, dont have a GW screen to check, but you can take it as high as the internal settings permit, as long as it dont exceed the capabilities of your monitor, which can be found in your monitor settings menu... also, fyi, to help with eye strain, while you are there, you may want to turn up your refresh rate to what your monitor will support as well.

Depends.
If 1280x1024 is the max it can go in normal windows settings you will be limited to that resolution in guild wars too.
If you can go up to 1600x1200 for example in windows you will be able to get that in guild wars too.

I run it at the same res as you and i've noticed if you go bigger you don't get much more screen space or higher quality you just get a scaling of the GUI at this point.

i can get higher on my monitor (MAX is 2048x1536) but in guild wars im stuck at the max of 1280x1024.

Resolution in GW can be set to the max your video card and monitor can handle.
What is very important is refresh rate. This is how many times a second the CRT refreshes the screen per second.
CRT Monitors refresh rates lower as the resolution gets higher.
For example
playing GW at 1600x1200 at a 60Hz refresh rate will eventually make your eyes tired or actually give you a headache. It will also decrease your performance of the game.
The VESA standard is 72Hz which lowers this problem. I always play at a minimum of 85Hz in my games , but I prefer 100Hz.
I play at 1280x1024 with 4x AA and 8X AF at 100Hz, the game is stunning visually and my eyes are never tired.

If your monitor supports higher resolutions and you can't see higher resolutions in the game, you haven't set the .inf file for your monitor. This file tells your operating system the operating perameters of your monitor.

I vary my desktop settings from 1280x1024 to 1600x1200. But I always run games including Guild Wars at 1600x1280. My monitor supports 1920x1440 and 160Hz but the higher up the chain the lower the refresh rate gets. As it is I keep my refresh rate at 85-90Hz. So your ingame resolution can be higher if your card and monitor support them. Only thing is that the transition times when switching to your desktop may be slightly longer.
You might also want to check that your video drivers are upto date as that sometimes has an effect res' you can select.

Are you definately sure that your monitor can support that res? I mean in windows it claims mine can aswell but I know it only goes upto 1920x1440.

Go to the website of your monitors manufacturer.
Download thier latest .inf file for thier monitors. ( inf files are information files for the definition of your monitors characteristics)
After downloading the file.
Right mouse click on your desktop, choose properties
Choose the tab that says settings
Choose the button that says advanced
Choose the tab that says Monitor and click properties
Choose the Driver tab
Click the button that says update driver. Aim it at the location
of your downloaded driver. Apply and reboot.
If your monitor does support higher resolutions you will now see them in game and you will have higher refreshrates
as well :)

Mine does it's a SyncMaster 1100DF
It does play at the highest res, but even with my sli rig I have to turn down settings or it's very slow. Also the game icons durinmg game play are to small :P

thanks mate ill do try that right now and update ya when i have done :).
p.s. i have 3 creds so ofcourse ill give ya some lol :D
EDIT: i seem to have a problem finding the driver for my monitor my monitor is an BenQ FP787-12 but on there website i cant seem to find that model. if u can give me a link to the down location it would be very greatful :)

Ok From what I see the BenQ FP787 is an LCD monitor.
The max resolution on that monitor is 1280x1024. Your at your max now.
