HoD and Crystline Sword

HOD looks just like a Short Sword...Crystalline is below as well.

Crystallines range greatly on stats (100k-who knows), HoD are over 500k right now, I believe.

In terms of weapons, HoD usually refers to a sword that you used to be able to craft at the Henge of Denravi that had +5 energy...making it very desirable to anyone using an offhand (like, say...55 hp farmers). It was nerfed, so the few remaining in the game are quite expensive.

HoD stands for Henge of Denravi. The HoD sword USED to be able to be crafted there, but was removed in one of the early updates. It gives +5 energy always and is moddable as normal; as such, they are considered perfect for several builds, including, but not limited to, invincimonks, IW mesmers, smite monks, and others.

Since they're no longer available and exist in limited numbers on each server (probably less than 100 on each server are up for sale at any given time), the price is extremely high.

They're usually ~300k now, 400 tops but 500 is pretty much a rip.

can someone explain why this was removed .. and dont say balance. leaving it in the hands of a fgew makes it even MORE imblanced that it would have been if all had access.

now only a few have access to the benefits of it or the profits from it... this is not balanced.

ive said on other forums that in my opinion things like this are what encourages the EBay'ers and the endless strwam of bots that we see so prevailent of late.

id love to have one of those for my account, but i likely never will as i simply dont have the hours to dedicate to farming, and do not wish to go the Ebay route to get something like this or my fissure armor .. and im ok with that, but many others are not from the ego or whatever else standpoint

why was this restricted ? instead of outright removed ? it simply dioesnt make sense under the "balance" argument

you say tht yu could "craft" them did tht mean, anyone could of had or did you have to find them?

You could simply buy it (have it crafted) at the weapons NPC in Denravi.

Yes and no. It is a balance issue; the sword was too powerful. However, having so few of them out makes it so that you can't face entire enemy teams wielding them because to acquire that many would be too prohibitively expensive. On the other hand, though, having even one or two people with the sword does give them an unfair advantage, but it's fairly small. It's overcomable when you have only 1 opponent with one, but 8 opponents with one would give them a fairly large edge.

Again, see above for why it's better to have a few having access rather than everyone and anyone who wants one.

Not really. EBay'ers tend to use their ill-gotten gains on things to make them look more experienced; 15k and FoW armor and rare items skins, mostly. The HoD sword has a Gladius skin, which is hardly a status symbol.

I don't have an answer to this. I suspect that it's because, at the early stages of the game when the sword was removed, Anet was much more cautious about outright removing things from the game than they are now. They didn't want to alienate players who had gotten the sword, so they simply removed the ability to make new ones and not the older ones, and now this decision is too old to correct.

Look at it this way, though: the chances of you seeing a HoD sword, either in your own hands or in another person's, are very low, so the chances of actually having an unfair disadvantage is equally low.

Gladiuses and Short Swords have the same skin. So yes, it DOES have a Short Sword skin, but it also has the Gladius skin.

opinions appreciated and respected .. but it still means that a select few have a huge advantage... it would be more balanced if all had the opportunity, or if none did

Making an item rare makes it more valuable even if it has garbage mods on it as weve all seen (IE Ogre Slaying Knife .. albiet on a far lesser scale) but rare AND a good mod capability.. well, we all know the results there too.

i get that thats the official position, i just dont agree with the logic of it.
