Can anyone provide me with any info on maybe how the salvages go about popping up, is it random or is there a certain type of enemy to be killed? anything else would be helpful also just trying to learn as much as possible.

i *think* what type of salvage ypu get depends on what type of enemy you are fighting i.e. fighting CoT eill give you magic type salvage. i do know that there is a higher chance that Lts and Bosses will drop salvage and that Elite Bosses and AVs always drop salvage.
but still i might be wrong :-)

NO...you are correct. The type of salvage drop depends on what enemy you are facing. The higher the level, the less random the drop becomes. They did do a fix that auto drops salvage with AV/Heroes. I believe elite bosses drops them as well.

There are also "levels" of salvage basically:
Basic
Advanced
Expert
to make certain components on the advanced table you will need some advanced salvage, now it may be 4 pieces of standard and 1 piece advance, but you will need some. same applies to expert. the basic takes basic and makes basic components the advance makes advanced etc and these elements are made into the item. If you have advanced table and you are going to use it either figure out which salvage is advanced or at least make the advanced components first because many advanced salvage will work in a basic forge and you may "waste" salvage you may need later for an advanced item.
On pinnacle i have heard people broadcast (usually in port oakes0 they are buying salvage.

Just in case you did not know, you get way more salvage while playing in SG mode =)
I have had it drop with out being in SG mode, but not as often..

From trial and error, salvage wont drop if you solo without an SG. However, if you team with someone who is in an SG (with or without SG mode turne don) you will get salvage, thoguh not frequently. It seems the code just makes it drop relatively evenly across the team like random enhancements.
So if you want Salavage these are the best options:
Solo with SG mode on against Lts/Bosses
Team with other SG folks against the same if you are not in an SG (just wanting to sell salvage)
Kill lots of Elites/Heros/AVS
You also get salvage while Malefactored at the same rate as unmalefactored, though the salvage is level appropriate to the level you are dropping down to.
