From what I have heard Linage II is a beautiful game. The graphics after equal to none, but since it is PVP from the first step the players community is the worst. Now two years down the line is this still the case or has the game mellowed down a bit?

Well, I've only just started playing about a month ago. I have only run into one person that outright attacked me, but that was in the beginning, so I just high tailed it back to town. The towns are safe areas.
Just the other day we vetured out of the starting area into the rest of the world. This is a huge place. Lots to see. While we were there, someone shouted in chat that there was a PK'er at a certain area, so to watch yourself. So I wouldn't say that it's all bad. Personally I like it. It gives the game a more realistic feel. Knowing that anyone you run across might try to kill you, gives it a whole different feel.
However, its not as easy as attacking a nasty. All players have CP or combat points. When you are attacked by another player, you have to lose all your CP before you start losing HP. Also, if someone is actively engaged in PKing their name will be a different color. If I read the official site correctly, when you hit someone who's name is white your name becomes purple, letting everyone know that you attacked someone. And if you kill a person, your name becomes red, letting everyone know that you are a Player Killer. So if you see a person who's name is one of these colors, you know to just steer clear of them.

Oh yeah, I also wanted to say, the graphics are awesome. I don't know if you've played Guild Wars yet, but I would say they are almost as good as that. And about the community, I spent a little time reading on the official message boards, and they are no Gameamp, but there are people there that help out.

if you are looking for hardcore PvP action go to the server Kain... all the other servers are pretty nice, but kain is the uber pvp server ^^

Linegae 2 doesnt have a bad community... What are you on about, yes some players do attack you and want to pvp, but sometimes i feel like doing that myself just to test my horoes, theres nothing wrong with that, its a pvp game and youre meant to do that...
And the community is great... I am very good friends with many people, and I dont even know them in real life, i met them in the game, we always hunt together or pvp other people together or just talk all day...
Youre only level 14, later on when hunting becomes more difficult you will need groups just like everybody else does and you should make some pretty close friends. Even when my clan has a war with another clan we still talk on friendly basis, obviously when we see each other we go to kill each other, but i'll say it again thats just a of fun and thats what the game is for anyway.

Ive only been playing for a few weeks but definitly catching the hang of it. Real fun game and so far I have had no problems with player killers. the only problem ive had with the game is knowing where to go at certain levels and what equipment to use.

Thanks for all the responses! I am not playing the game at all yet. I was just wandering around the gameamp forums looking for a cool game. It sounds like it is worth a try. I'll see if time and money permit it. Maybe/hopefully I'll be able to step around in Gludin soon.
