| Potential player has questions about cross-classing |
|
|
|
I came across RF online through some banner, never even heard of it before. But it piqued my interest and I've been doing much research, which has left me with many questions. For now I just have one important question...
I was looking at cross-classing feature and was wondering... If I want to be a Warrior with Ranger cross-class... would I still be an effective warrior at all? Or would a main-stream warrior still be far more effective, making my warrior spec kind of obsolete? I love the idea of launchers, but I also want to run into battle swinging an axe, sort-of.
I understand I would not get the 'best' of both worlds in cross classing war -> ranger, it seems? But would losing whatever abilities you lose in cross classing make the combo kinda worthless in both respects? ie a warrior that cant tank that great, and a ranger that cant shoot that great? I dont want that... but I really want a launcher to go with my warrior. ;) if you see what I'm saying...
Ps, this is in regard to the Acc. race, obviously. I come from a long history of MMORPGs and have much experience with them and like to do a lot of research before getting into one, typically. The gameplay makes it seem more like an RTS, the way you point and click your unit to make it attack, too.... not sure if I'd like that. I enjoy the freedom of movement i had in EQ , EQ2, and WOW... Although FFXI didn't have the click-move system, you could use a controller to move around, but your movement capabilities were limited.... Any other input regarding that would be appreciated!
Thanks for any info you can supply someone wishing to learn more about the game before taking the dive into it!

Well for info on the cross classing feature here you go
http://community.codemasters.com/forum/sho...=cross+classing
This is a link to the official forums of RFonline and is sacked with a metric ton of good info on this subject.

I've already read that post, but thanks anyways.
Perhaps I should rephrase my question... by losing the class specific abilities (which I assume are the ones listed here: http://rfinfo.net/a-classes.shtml ) does that kind-of break you and make you somewhat sub-par in general?
I mean, do those abilities make a pure Warrior totally wicked in combat and losing them in exchange for ranger xclass make him kinda worthless? Ive read a lot and no one who has actually played/tried it seems to have said anything about it.

It's all about preference of play. If you make a warrior and want that character to be a ranger later on then you cross class. But most people figure out what they are going to make before they decide to play in the first place. You don't hear about people cross classing too much because people want the tier 3 skills and abilities.
The cross classing of a character will not make him worthless but will only broaden his abilities in exchange for the better ones for his base class that you will never get if you cross class.

Never played FF XI. But what I know of FF is that it is all turn based, which this is not. This is full time action. Big PVP fights. But also, hunting, quests, crafting and a clever hierachy system that lets you rise in the ranks of your race.

Yes the FF's are all turned based, but FFXI doesn't have the same style. It's just like any normal MMO.
PVP YAY! I've been looking for a game with little leveling, high amounts of pvp, and a strong community. The only problem is, I see no free trial to test this game out. I really dont want to burn 50 bucks just to find out if its a good or bad game.

FFXI is for the 30 yr old man with no life. I also hate it with a passion and many other who play RF online. There is a 30 day trial after u buy the game but besides that i dont think there is any promotional free trial. In the beginning 1-20 which goes pretty quick can be like ffXI in the sense of going out and killing stuff.
