I have played with the paladin spells for level one extensively. I have to say that my research has paid off.
Virtue, the under utilized spell. I think at level 4 it is 12-14 temporary hit points. It is level based, so it goes up with levels.
It is a temporary hit point buff that gives you and/or allies hit points that stack with false life, aid, divine power etc.
At level 6 my paladin gives it out frequently, and buffs himself with Divine Favor and Virtue.
Just so you know, put it on the softies, and the cleric to make life easier. Use those spell points as best you can I say.

I have to agree 100%. Virtue is an amazing spell, and makes the Paladin much more formidable in a fight. Also, you can buff other party members with it. Since you start with such little in the way of spell-points as a Pali - I usualy save it for the main tank ( even if that's not me ), since it'll help them out far more than me. Once you gain some levesl - you can buff most of the party. With such little SPs - a Pali is a poor backup healer, but a pre-fight HP buff makes the aftermath softer on the clerics... which is a good thing. :)
Virtue starts at 10 hitpoints, and goes up by two every level ( I think ).
Needless to say, Virtue is the best level-one Pali spell in my opinion.

I have posted a mini guide to the best paladin spells. Top 3 type of deal into the tips section as innuendo suggested :)
Although many spells like Lesser Restore come in handy, Virtue, Divine Favor, and Cure Light Wounds are my top 3 in that order.

Divine Favor or Virtue would depend a lot on your Pali build, imho...
If your a combat paladin, I can see DF being a better spell. But, if your an aura pali, I think that Virtue is the way to go.

Yeah I might regret it but I just made level 6 and got my two spells, I took mental toughness for my feat 10 spell points for first level 5 for each after so now I have 130 spell points(20 from a power II item), I figure virtue and cure light, 13 of whatever and two LOH. before I hit 6 we ran Shan-To-Kor and we were all level 5s, I had spell points for 7 cure lights and we made it through rest shrines without the cleric's spell points getting close to half, and most of his spell points used went to buffs. I hope it will make me all around better for the group. I can bash better than some fighters, or enough to make a good dent if i'm not keeping up. I can heal enough to keep clerics/bards focused more on buffs. I think my next action point will go back into an aura enhancement... right now it feels pretty good... kind of a jack of some master of none, but good enough to help out with most.

Virtue is a decent spell, however there are better ways to go about utilizing your Paladin's SP when teamed with a cleric.
I posted this strategy on my Paladin guide, but it doesn't seem like anyone has really considered it. Use this strategy when your Cleric runs out of SP (Must be in an instance where there are few or no undead; the cleric must be able to use the Divine Vitality enhancement effectively).
When the Cleric in your party runs out of SP and you are in a situation in an instance where there are no shrines in sight, a Paladin can take the role of the main healer.
Instruct the cleric to refuel your SP with the Divine Vitality Enhancement as you run out of SP. This can save your party from a difficult boss or band of mobs when you might otherwise all die and take an EXP penalty. Before level 6, a single Divine Vitality charge may be able to refuel your entire SP tank and give you 2-3 uses of these spells. Since many Clerics have over 10 uses of Turn Undead, you can see how this strategy could work effectively.
