Best Primary to get all PvE skills for each Profession

I've been wanting to make one major PvE character in the hopes that some day it will have all skills from all professions. The question here is...which primary profession would be universally best to do this with (including factions ones).

Looking at the professions I figured it would have to be either the elementalist of the Necromancy as they have mana oriented primary's. Where as something like a ranger's primary is only good for a warrior/assassin and not so much for a monk.

I'm leaning towards Necromancer because they have better overall merchant armour when compared to the Elementalist albeit with a weakness to holy damage.

Would this be the best way to go? Thoughts? Opionions? Ideally from someone whose done this or is in the process of trying it.

I would go as an Elementalist primary because of the Energy Storage attribute.

I would have to suggest a monk for three reasons.
1.) Every party needs a monk, so you will have no problem ever finding a party to help with missions, quests and caps.
2.) Unlocking every skill with one character has a major difficulty to overcome, skill points. As a monk, you can make yourself a 55 monk and solo many monsters, earning massive XP, giving you more skill points as you level.
3.) Finally, a monk can go well with any secondary profession. Why? Because a good healer doesn't necessarily require a second profession. You can have a great character who is pure monk, making it easier for you when selecting a secodary profession that is not your strongest.

I have fully unlocked every skill and I have found that I unlocked skills the quickest with my monk.

i'd do it with a warrior, because they're the easiest and most fun to play on. i'd do this after completing all skill quests with a character of each profession, so i wouldn't have to buy all of the secondary skills with my warrior.

IMO I would say use something you farm with only because youll get the skill points easy but if you use something you dont farm with its harder to get skill points

If you just want to learn the skills for the sake of unlocking them then I would go with Monk since they can solo farm the fastest and thus can generate a lot skill points for itself (and money to pay for new skills amoung other things).

Otherwise if you aim to actively combine professions to use secondary skills actively then I would have to say you're crazy. But Elementalist OR Mesmer would be your best choice due to the energy managenment skills.

RE: Best Primary to get all PvE skills for each Profession

It seems to me that a warrior would be the worst pick simply due to the poor mana regeneration and due to their primary attribute being poor for caster types.

I figure any build can ultimately farm something...so the concern isn't soo much the ability to obtain skill points...though finding constant groups as a necromancer (whose not a battery or MM) or mesmer would be tough.

Soul Reaping seems to offer a whole lot as it triggers on any kills in the area and can work very nicely as such with any combination. An quick killing character such as a warrior or assassin or elementalist would rejuvinate the fuel they need...while support characters would benefit from the groups kills to help the team keep alive.

I suppose my question now is...is it better to have a full tank of mana to start combat via Energy Storage? The drawback here being once you've emptied the tank...you'll be fairly weak to whatever mobs have not died yet. (that and there's some downtime after battles to get mana back)

Or is it better to benefit from mobs who die around you? This would seemingly provide a lot more overall mana to work with...however, would be weak against bosses and healer types as you'll quickly run out of mana and have no mobs dying to boost it back up.

The goal is to create one primary profession that can be used as every character in the game...so to not have to switch characters when a mission or task is better accomplished using another guy. This would be a jack of all trades. My intention would not be to just get all skills for the sake of accomplishment...but to get all the skills so to accomplish anything from healing, to nuking, to tanking, to supporting effectively in one character (if this is even possible)

RE: Best Primary to get all PvE skills for each Profession

see, no matter which primary you choose, there is ussually some secondary's that are not normally combined with it (eg, I have never seen a N/W, E/W (although my friend is an awesome W/E) so you want a proffession that will
1. get you into groups
2. be awesommarrific (thats right, I said awesomearrific... and mispelled it too :) no matter what the secondary is
3. be able to solo (both farm and otherwise)

For these reasons, it would likely easiest to do it with a monk
but it is doable with anything (cause a party has to be balanced, awesomeness is possible with any char as long as your good, and ive seen solo builds for practically any primary)
The only thing is, as was mentioned, monk can go with anything, and has the best solo/ 2 man farming build (55), and normal (non 55) healing/prot monks are always in demand, and they are always looked for (ima building a 55, and managed to get accepted and win the dessert missions @ lvl 12-13 (which would be almost impossible with any other primary)
But no matter what your choice, just remember one thing.......
HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

and to answer your other questions, an ele would be a good choice (since they are in demand as well) and I personnally prefer more mana to start with than some mana when somone dies, simply cause then you can spike dmg right away, and if ur in a team, then you are not weak w/o mana cause you would stay back until you get more, ( and hopefully you will have good energy management (the attunements are always recommended, cause you can get up to 80% back)

I would say monk or warrior as you need LOTS of exp to get all the skills. Both of these classes can solo farm and get pretty good exp. Monk getting the most with its soloing uw

RE: Best Primary to get all PvE skills for each Profession

the quickest way to unlock all the skills is by completing the game with every type of character if its for pvp no worries about deleting the char when ure done.
takes much longer to earn the skill points to unlock the skills than it does to earn them from the quests. imo
if you want a kickass pve or pvp character then i recommend going with the char you play best with.
i found that ranger is the easiest to mix skills with in terms of the way i play the game but i can see how others find monk easy-er. personally i find necro has kept me entertained in terms of secondary for all spell caster attrib but is a little weak combined with warrior and ranger. mes is tricky but rewarding i would say that it would probably take longer to unlock all the skills with a caster apart from the monk perhaps as has been rightly said when the skill points dry up you can always get more with a monk.
warrior is also popular and you wont find trouble getting in groups for missions. if you find your farming for skill points then i would suggest uw or sf trapper, 55 monk, ss necro, echo nuker, stance tank, umm ...mes err... something or other interupter buffer thingy (jk) mes can be the strongest part of a group but few people have the respect they should have for mes because they don't look like they do as much as they actually do. try fighting one and you soon find out. they stop healing they stop spell casting they stop critical attacks and skills meaning you could empty the enemy skill bar makes them allot less effective.

RE: Best Primary to get all PvE skills for each Profession

I've never done the 55 hp monk thing...but to my understanding that is still possible with your monk being secondary is it not? Since it doesn't seemingly rely on their primary attribute...I don't see why an El/Mo or Ne/Mo couldn't take the 55hp route.

Though if they realistically can't then going monk might be the best option.

Also...the rumour mill had it that the whole 55hp monk thing was expected to be nerfed with Factions coming out. Though like most rumours this is probably false information.

I have farmed solo 55 in UW with a Necro/Monk and a Mesmer/Monk. Both are entirely possible. Mesmer/Monk is probably the best at soloing the smites, due to SV. And my guild leader uses an E/Mo. Which is great because you never have to worry about energy.

And I seriously doubt they'd directly nerf 55hp builds, since it's such a staple build across all the countries. Factions will probably have certain skills or monsters that would destroy 55hp.

And there is no such class that can be 'Jack of all trades'. There will always be downsides and upsides to each class. Sure, more energy is good, but what if you don't need all that energy? It's a waste. Soulreaping is awesome, but if you're monking, you usually heal before things die. Fastcasting is cool too, but it pushes you to waste all your energy too fast.

So if you're looking to unlock EVERYTHING, don't worry if a certain primary class could use it, just unlock it and forget about it.

yep you can have a 55 monk with monk as secondary i would suggest its not as easy or effective however. in terms of necro i have a bit of difficulty with energy untill things start to die.

I'm going to have to say the monk simply because, for me anyways, the monk would go with ANY profession. I mean, who doesn't want healing to be a part of their build? Second best for me would be the warrior cause it's just so much fun to play. My three cents, the first two are free.

RE: Best Primary to get all PvE skills for each Profession

well personally it's not something I'd bother doing as I just unlock what I need for PvE, and have everything already unlocked for PvP, but I would have to say that the mesmer has the most to offer in its prof exclusive skill (fast casting). Fast cast eles, fast cast rezmer/hex removers, fast cast necros (not to mention necro secondary just goes well with mesmer), Me/W or Me/R can do IW (flurry or fury).

good luck.

RE: Best Primary to get all PvE skills for each Profession

I have all character professions, and in my opinion the best all round profession is ranger.

The amount of builds are as diverse as any, but the Ranger itself can fit into any situation without the aid of secondary professions. They have very good armor, second only to Warrior. Whether you choose to be at the back or front of the group, a Ranger has many skills to cope with all situations. They have heals, traps, defensive stances, elemental damage, conditions, interrupts, speed buffs, condition removal.

Out of all my characters, it the only one that switches between all secondary professions. The others seem better matched with a couple of secondarys only.

TBH i suggest you be a monk. Almost all groups need a monk so you will level up quite quikly and it is easy to farm with them so you will get skill points easily and almost any second proffesion goes well with monk.

RE: Best Primary to get all PvE skills for each Profession

well mi gusseing almost all of u have forgot he said "farming" but to answer ur q,

if u want to have fun and farm good stuff then i suggest u to be a w/elem (status: good offense and excllent defense )with these skills:armor of earth, gladiators defense, healing signet, shield stance, riposte, sever artey, gash, and final thrust.

if u want to kill multipul eniemes fast then be a elem/mes (status:exellent offense but low defense)
skills: meteor shower, enurgey surge, fire storm, rocoats invocation, fire ball, ether feast, and mantra of elem or physical

if u want a 100% farming build then be a 55 monk
i never tried or heard of the skills for a 55 monk

if u want to have a vergy good farming build then have a r/?
(status: vergy good offense but low defense and u must a consertraion)
skills: all trap skills, quickening zyphr, energyizing wind, and i forgot the other one

well thats all i got

RE: Best Primary to get all PvE skills for each Profession

ONE CHARACTER:
The fastest way to farm xp and money (you'll need both, but more so the xp) is to solo as a Mo. Second fastest with a W. This probably won't change with Factions or re-balancing (though it may get tougher).

Another approach is to do a certain type of thing such as farm an area with the flavor-of-the-month build. Example: old tombs with a barrage/pet group, limiting you to Mo, N or R. Problem is that flavor-of-the-month builds change, so by the time your getting into that part of the game, there might be something better. A friend of mine has a R with all skills for all secondaries unlocked, but is in old tombs all the time. So if you want to do this as a group, my recommended choice (from first to last) would be Mo > N > Rt > R > W > E > Me > A. The factions part is total speculation. I actually do plan on making an A, and Me is my favorite class in the game... I'm just mentioning what I think the priority list for high-end-content-pick-up-groups will be.

SEVERAL CHARACTERS:
Having three PvE characters that cover the 6 classes (or 4 that cover the soon-to-be-eight) may or may not be faster than doing it with one character, but it's sure to be much less tedious.

RE: Best Primary to get all PvE skills for each Profession

well iff you reali want EVERY skill just build more then one you can have a necro/mes an ele/mo a war/ra iff you can have those 3 then you basicly have everything untill you get factions =] but iff you reali wanbt them all on 1 char then you just pick your best class you DONT have to use your 2th prof skills its just good to do it you can ignore it like ele/war isnt the best build but iff your not a good warrior you can still have those skills
