| Would you pay $50/mo for multiple games? |
|

I had this thought a little while ago. I originally posted it on the Guild Wars forums, but thought it might go better here, as Guild Wars is a no monthly fee game.
We all know that NCSoft is the publisher for this game as well as a few other pay to play games like City of Villains, Auto Assault, Lineage 2, Guild Wars, etc. Now, what if, instead of having to play one game at a time and pay x amount a month for it, you could actually pay $50/mo and have access to every online game that NCSoft publishes?
For those of you that pay to play, would you be interested in something like this, or am I just off my rocker?
Feel free to discuss.

Great plan, but $50 is too steep. I am one of those fools that plays more than one MMORPG at the time. All but COH are suffering at the moment, but I pay for three anyway. Since one of them is not an NCSoft game, that means I have to add on top of that $50! So I am out! But even if it was an NCSoft game, I would still not make sense to me. Most MMORPGs cost $15. So if I play three MMOPRGs at once that will cost me $45.
If NCSoft would make it $30 it would start making sense. Maybe for that amount you get a free for all account. That would actually be quite clever and profitable for them. Since I pay 2 x $15 already, it would be a small step for me to buy and play Auto Assault. It will not change the amount of playing time, but they did cash in an extra $50 from me.

Well, for speculations sake lets say it was $35/mo. I was thinking $50 was kinda steep too. Ideally, I was thinking of a one cost, all games type deal, but since there are so many different publishers, it would be difficult to get them to agree on something like that so that's why I went with NCSoft, since I play Lineage 2 and Guild Wars atm.
But whatcha think about $50/mo if it included access to any MMO, regardless of publisher, would you be more willing then? Or make it $40/mo. Or just name your price since this is all merely speculation. Maybe the better question would be, How much a month would you be willing to pay for a service that allowed you access to multiple games?

I would and do, well sort of along with my CoH/CoV account I have a Sony account that I pay around $24 or so and that gets me eq.eq2,swg,matrix and 2 more games I cant think of atm but if you do the math its a deal when games are $15 each alone a month

Y'know...I can actually see a publisher coming up with a deal like this at some point. It would be difficult for their development teams to split the flat rate, but the company would definitely get much more exposure for its games. The big kicker is that you'll still have to buy the game before you start with the flat rate. If you decide to try out 4 titles, then the company just made about $200 before you even get a subscription.
To answer the question, though, I'm not sure if I would buy into it. There's no telling if a single company can come up with enough games that appeal to my playing style. Of course, the same can be said for consoles. We make a large purchase in the beginning hoping that the one we choose will provide the best games, best variety, and best experience. The original company would have to take a role like Sony or Microsoft. It would have to pay other developers to create the games and then license them. Online gaming revolution, anyone?
