I7 MM Defense Buff.. Bodyguard 

Found this while I was cruisin the net.. Bodyguard

Seems MM's will have a bodyguard feature that lets there pets take damage for them..

Interesting...So, this is where they plan to provide MMs with their defense boost? This could be interesting...not sure how it will play out though. Having your defense boost be based on henchmen that can be defeated seems a bit cruel...(but why does this fascinate me though????)

aye at least we also get a Def Shield with the Patron Powers as well.. all in all I cant wait for I7

I agree, I'm just looking forward to some new content to play. I'm not a big PvPer so there is nothing for my lvl 40 toons to do but collect dust.

This Bodyguard feature sounds like a good idea that should have been out earlier. I want my Mercs to take the damage thats half the reason I use them. The other half being that they mow down just about everyone in my path as long as their standing.
I also agree on the need for new content. My level 40 MM has been sitting around collecting dust and he is my favorite toon.
Besides the only thing that I like doing in the PvP areas is getting the Warburg rockets and collecting meteor fragments for extra pets.

Wow, this means that my necro/maisam MM can get in close to use his aoe heals and be alot safer now. Can't wait for I7.

Yeah been a little thin for the 40s but have done some badgework and built some inf/prestige.

BTW anyone know how many badges currently available? Wish they'd put a badge counter on the personal info window.

Yet one more reason for us MMs to look forward to I7. Can't wait to see exactly how this is gonna work. My guess is that it will be controlled by the player, but beyond that I have no idea how the devs are gonna pull this off.

Setting to Bodyguard
You can set any Mastermind Henchman to Bodyguard by selecting the Defensive Stance and the Follow Order. Your Henchmen must be within Supremacy range for this function to work.

Bodyguard Mode
When set to Bodyguard mode, the Mastermind and his Henchmen share damage from any attack that the Mastermind takes damage from. Each Henchman takes one “Share” of the damage, and the Mastermind himself takes 2 “Shares”. This is in addition to any damage that the Henchmen themselves might incur from Area attacks.

Example: If a Mastermind has 3 Henchmen set to Def/Fol, and he gets hit with a 100 point attack, each Henchman will take 20 points of damage, and he himself will take 40 points. (total of 100 points of damage).

Example 2: If a Mastermind has 3 Henchmen set to Def/Fol, and he gets hit with an Area Effect attack for 10 points of damage, then each Henchman will take 2 points of damage, and he himself will take 4 points. Henchmen that were also in the Area of Effect will take an additional 10 points each.

What Does This Mean?
Bodyguard will work as long as a Henchman is in Defensive Follow. This means that they will follow you around and attack back when you or they are attacked. Issuing an order of “Attack my target” will take them out of bodyguard mode, as will issuing any other stance or order. You can set as many of your Henchmen to bodyguard that you want. As long as the Henchman is in Defensive Follow and within Supremacy range, he is in Bodyguard mode. Being stunned will not turn off bodyguard mode.

So in order to keep my pets taking my damage I have to have one, at least, set to def stance and just following me around.
Not sure if I'm diggin' this trick after all. But then again 1/3rd less damage might be worth it to keep my Merc medic set like this permenantly. He heals, and I take less damage.
Either way anyone know when the release for I7 is?!?!?!

I wish we would have had this when I was running the Snaptooth missions. His minions seemed to only attack me, ignoring my zombies, which unfortunately led to quite a bit of debt.

As far as the defensive stance goes, I imagine a tactic that might work would be to send the pets to attack, then follow them and switch over to defensive mode. Since they've attacked the enemy by this time, the next time the pets get attacked, they should then strike back, and hopefully maintain their bodyguard status...oh well, I guess we'll know as soon as I7 makes it to test.

Just one more thing to help me take over the world! :) Great idea IMO, can't wait to see how it works in a real PVP setting. Not sure how I'm gonna set up my binds to accomidate this change now. Any ideas?

the only problem with the bodyguard feture is that pets have to be in defencive mode which means they cant attack

Actually they can attack, but not really how you'd like them too...i.e., you can't give them the "attack my target" command.

If they are set to bodyguard (defensive/follow) they won't attack until someone attacks you or them.

I have macros/binds set up to "attack my target" for all the pets which I start off with, and once my little darlings have gotten their alpha strike in, I have another bind to set my lich (my pet with the highest hp) to bodyguard, and then he's only out of the fight until one of us gets hit...then he jumps right back in.

I think one of the best uses of this function is to set all pets to bodyguard when you're running around a dangerous zone (like Grandville)...if you turn a corner and run smack into a purple mob, then at least you won't get one-shotted.

Bodygaurd feature, could be damemd useful, might be a pain, who knows. Can't you set mulitple body gaurds as well?

oh, yeah, you can set them all to bodyguard [ /petcom_all defensive follow ], which I use when I'm running around, but in the heat of battle, I usually only set my highest hp to bodyguard.
