I have done just about everything there is to do in GW multiple times and I was getting bored last week so I thought I'd try my hand at The Hall Of Heros. In doing this I discovered you have to be rank 3 and over in order to get on a team that knows what their doing and getting to rank 3 is no easy task. So I was wondering if any one would like to make a team for the hall with me, I can do pretty much any build on any class except IWAY because IWAY was created by Satan. Anyway if any one wants to make a team whisper Burnttoast S, I want my dear head.
The main problem with unranked groups, is that noone sticks together if they lose. I go mostly balanced w/ at least 2-3 guildies, and the rest random PUGs. I've also gotten the majority of my 93 fame w/ this setup. What usually happens if you lose right away, the PUGs will leave the group. Meanwhile it takes a few matches playing together to learn everyones strengths and weaknesses. You can't just get in a group and expect to go win the HoH, even with a ranked group, considering noone knows just how well the other people play. So next time you go with a random PUG stick around w/ each other for a few matches, and see if things get better. If they don't, then the group leader may need to re-organize things a bit better.
Also, there was a post a few days ago, about America running nothing but iway, this is true. But I would like to point out that Europe generally runs nothing but spike groups. So both sides are lacking on originality. Just my 2 cents on the take on that.
errr...one thing....Europe don't always run spike groups, they more often do balanced. The guild groups do spike more often - usually blood spike and closely followed by ranger spike :D
Anyway back to the subject i recommend you do some matches with your guild if they're PvP or just talk in chat and ask to make a team and if you do well add them to your friends list and do HoH more often. I personaly love ranger spikes but I'm up for anything, I only have 16 fame so im now where close to even rank 1, I've propsed going to HoH with my guild and they liked the idea but 1 of us hadn't got past the team arenas yet so we decided not to go, my guild also has their own private vent server we could use (as long as no one else is using it) any way im normly on from 6 pm eastern time to 10 pm (week days) and pretty much 24/7 on weekend (because I have no life out side of GW) and spring break is next week so I plan on drinking about 3 pots of coffee a day and gaining fame until my key board breaks or I break (which ever comes first).
I had same problem some time ago, people think they are T3H 1337 m0f0s when they get to rank 3. It took me damn 4 months to get to rank 3 without ever consulting IWAY which will stay the lamest build that ever walked this earth. Now that I'm R3 myself I doesn't feel anymore 1337 then before. I quit HE ever since but if you need a rocksolid War, ele or ranger just give me a ping and I think i can stick around for few matches.

I salute you man. It takes a great individual to turn away from IWAY when people are in the same situation you are in. I will admit it is very hard to get r3 when you don't know any r3+ people in the scene or are not in a guild that does HoH regularly(even unranked helps). Good Luck on the quest for rank3 man.
I'm in the same position, 1 fame that I got from a PUG a while back, now I've spent the last weekend in HoH without any luck. Even if I get a group on TS, or they look like they know what's going on in the mini-mission, things break down on the battlefield. I get to play mostly between 3pm-8pm PST if you need another player. Can run an axe war, spike ranger, or Heal or Prot monk. IGN same as here.
The reason it's so hard with PUGs is because you aren't used to their playing style. Like with my guild i can run any profession and i'll know exactly where everyone will be at any time. I could even play monk with my eyes closed and i'll know that if i'm in trouble then the other professions will bodyblock to keep the warriors off of me so i can heal. When you go with a PUG then you aren't sure how they will react to specific situations and so everyone reacts in their own way and not as a team. As a result everything breaks down.

A counter to ranger spike? A good one we did is Holy Wrath. Have a monk use Holy Wrath and signets. We stopped them from spamming quite quickly.
Holy wrath is a maintained Enchant. If you're in TA, put it on everyone. As long as you don't have energy degen, you won't lose it. It says you lose 10 energy every time it reflects damage, but if you dont have 10 energy, it just doesn't deduct anything.

I have never lost to ranger spike before in a guild group, but in a random group ranger spike might work and might not, we've beaten a couple of r-spike, I say it all really depends on the group, bc some r-spike groups are newbish, and some are amazing! And also IWAY might seem to be the noobish thing to some, but I actually think IWAY is a really neat and very effective build, and although YOU think everyone can play it, which is true, but NOT everyone can play it WELL! Newbish IWAY is soooo easy to beat, but organized and smart IWAY groups are just amazing! So, if I were you I won't completely rule out IWAY, try it a couple times, if you don't like it, don't play it, there are plenty of people running unranked spike/bc. Well Iway... i have got like 50-80 fame with this build there are 3-4 months ago when Iway was a new build but now to get a good group or just a group u need rank 3. :(
Before this build anyone could play , iway was fame way for beginner rank 0 and up , now its a build for pro or u gonna lose , maybe win 1 fame but 2 fame forget that
Just today I got 5-8 fame with henchway in Heroes Ascent (HA) , I think if all people were playing this way , this is like you are playing in a team Arena 4vs4 or Random Arena 4vs4 (if this is a PUG team).
This is like Iway 6 months ago , all were unranked and with iway get rank 3 today , now henchway but this is for always:D Easy,all Words meaning fast Way.
Edit: If you are not in a top guild , you dont have TS Vent or communication , You are not rank 3 or higher , 1st time to Hero Ascent (HA) Henchway is the First way
i use a specially modded iway now, none of that pet garbage xD

First of all I want to say that IWAY is not a bad build. Acctually its the best build ever made. the reason for this is that anet cant nerf it. It is also very easy to get a group. Whats wrong with IWAY is that it in fact is to easy to create. And that attracts noobs who will just use it for farming fame. They might be good at IWAY but if thats all they play they will never be good at anything else. The normal IWAY"noob" will get his fame, get his wolf and then go join maybe the same PUG I'm in. And he is as good at the build hes playing as a guy who started HA 2 days ago. And by that they screw the whole ranking system up and PUG's are not to be trusted even though you might of found a guy who is awesome.
I think youre doing the right thing not playing IWAY. And I also think that the best way to get a rank is to join an active guild, that imo is the most important thing. They have probably been on for so long that they think everything else is getting boring and start doing HA :). It might be to late thinking that the new game is in the stores in 8 days but maybe you got time.

Yep thats exactly it man you hit it. IWAY isnt a bad build, I wouldnt say its the best its not even close to being the best, but it is definetely easy to play, easy to form and go into battle, and if played decently correct adds HUGE amount of pressure, which most unorganized teams cannot handle even r6+ pugs.
In GvG, it is a great build as well, and some of the best guilds (for example, aW, Te, etc) have trouble countering it. For HoH, the best way to fame farm is IWAY and any kind of full spike group. Id rather spike than iway anyday, because that just lowers anyone's competency, and if anyone would like to argue that IWAY is not bad for you as a GW player, bring it on. Once you gain your wolf, and have played most any build and know how to gank and possibly even how to hold, then you can start gaining the big amounts of fame. Gank is a great way, but holding when you have the experience at doing it with a consistent group, is best. Hold halls for an hour or two and thats a lot of fame and nice gold drops or sigils.

hmm, im now r7(almost8) and i admit i iwayed my rank 3. after that it was just balanced and spike. how i think about rank is experience (not iway). a r9 player that has been playing balanced for a long time is an amazing player, i take mental leteci as an example. and they know how to handle different situations on every map. i played with a r3+ team a few days ago just to see if i could get them some fame, and then i remembered why i dont play with r3. they were just complaining about our build(smite which holds halls now and then) when we lost and they were cocky like hell when we won. i know that not all r3 ppl are like that but i think the majority is.
and last, i know its a hard work to get rank without iway. but when you get it, then youre proud. keep up the good work!
